A. 12 Things To Do To Keep Your Account Secure

It's pretty hard not to see one; a person saying they got hacked and now they're begging for the developers to help them get their account back. There's one thing you can do to prevent being "hacked," and that is to not get "hacked," in the first place. This is going to tell you on how to keep your account secure:

1. Use a pretty strong password

Security-wise, passwords are one of, if not the weakest forms to security available and so it's only natural that you use a strong password. See below on how to make a great one.

2. Don't use a password along these lines

1. Using your username as a password

2. Passwords with "123" at the end

3. Using your bank pin

4. Your pet's name

3. Use a password along these lines..

1. 12 or more digits

2. A combination of alphanumeric symbols; CAPS LOCK for maximum security

3. A cryptic meaning; what your last drink was or what you ate for dinner last night is a good one

(Random letters and numbers are great passwords but it's just that you may have a hard time remembering it.)

4. Do not share your account

As obvious as it is, people seem to fall for it every time; whether you're sharing your account to get that Thunder M1 you've always wanted, that person can change the password and claim it for his/herself.

5. Do not tell anyone your password

Don't give your password to your friend, mother, SuperNick95, GoldRock, and the developers. Tell no one your password. (Of course, the names used were examples; avoid giving your password to any of the chat moderators, reporters, map makers, consultants and forum moderators.)

6. Do not respond to e-mails from people claiming to be a moderator/developer

If it's not from help@tankionline.com or sprt@tankionline.com then really, don't bother replying to the e-mails; just delete it.

7. Don't use your password on any other site

Use a strong, unique password for maximum security; people go to the lengths for creating forums in an attempt to get passwords. This way, they can find out the password you use on other sites.

8. Do not write your password down in real life

As sad as it may sound, a friend may get the password, change the account and claim it as their own.

9. Scan your computer regularly

Ever heard of a "Trojan Horse," Because keyloggers can be downloaded as exactly that; you actually download it without knowing and it has a detrimental effect on your device. For example, you download a Tanki Online hack, oblivious to the fact it's completely riddled with malware/keylogger.

10. Do not download toolbars and cursors

It's very risky to download a third-party toolbar; they are riddled with malware. Third party cursors (especially CursorMania) are riddled with keyloggers and more.

11. Keep your firewall on

I'm sure that most hackers here aren't genuine hackers; they use programs made by other people. Even so, if you want to be secure, keep your firewall on for maximum safety.

12. Add an e-mail address/ register via e-mail address

Registering an e-mail address or adding one provides an extra layer of security; it also means you can recover lost accounts on some sites.

B. Common misconceptions

These are common myths about security that are actually untrue:

1. I have the best anti-virus on the market which means I don't need to worry about security!

As much as we'd all love to believe that, I'm afraid that's untrue. It really depends on your browsing habits; if you're downloading random stuff of the internet, you could have malware and keyloggers before your anti-virus provider adds the virus definition to their database for you to download. There's a bright side to this and that is that anti-virus programs are getting smarter and smarter.

2. I just got hacked!

Most people who say that don't know got they're talking about; they either used a abysmal password in which case someone could guess remotely easily or you gave your password to someone; that is not hacking.

3. Hehe, I'm using the parents' computer, so I'm the safest!

Whoever told you that? There is more or less no computer that is completely clean of viruses unless it's at a internet security firm. Always have a anti-virus provider on hand.

C. Definitions

These are definitions of some of the things I mentioned earlier:

1. What do firewalls do?

A firewall is a program that denies programs from being downloaded if they have viruses equipped. They also keep unwanted connections from connecting to your device with something known as a "port,"

2. What is an IP address?

A IP address is something that's given to you by your internet service provider; think of it as your computer house address. If someone has your IP address, they can see where you're from. This forum uses IP addresses to determine multiaccounts. If someone has your IP address, they can see where you're from.

D. A helpful site

If you need to check to find a good anti-virus, it's best to go here: http://www.malwarebytes.org/

It's an anti-virus that's totally free of charge; honestly, it's one of the best out there. If you go by the "You get what you pay for," logic and so you don't trust this site, go and buy Norton or McAfee.

E: Conclusion

If you follow these steps, I can guarantee nothing detrimental will happen to your account.

Great advice! Just one thing - decrease the size of your font, it's harder to read at that size. Otherwise, awesome job!  ^_^
