Not necessarily. Currently, Hornet's my only M3 hull, hence why I'm using it. When I get Viking M3, I'll be a Thunder-Viking more.

Thunder would be a monster if it had critical hit. I'm just a noob going up against warrantOs and the M1 Thunder can kill my hornet with a quickness. I usually use the Rico but I really like thunder's greater range. On another note, all stats aside, Thunder is the best looking turret out there. It looks just like the barrel of a 45 caliber handgun. It kinda looks like the U.S. model 1911.
