M1-A2 , you use corrosion ? No Emerald, or prodigy , or even rustle?

Yes. I use corrosion. However, I must explain that one. I used to use shaft 100% of the time, so I often had less crystals than other tankers. Also, since I've been ranking so fast and they haven't had a sale on paints in a while, I haven't bought a new paint yet. Got M3 Thunder on Iron Days so that wiped me of crystals for the most part. But, come May Day, I'll be getting Viking M3 and Emerald.

Random question. Where did you find that I used corrosion?

The best thing about thunder is -----> the splash damage.

The worse thing about thunder ------> the self damage you get.

Thunder goes best with Viking and Mammoth in my opinion. Imagine if someone had Thunder M4 with Mammoth M4/Viking M4 with Emerald with 50% protection from Thunder? That person would be very OP!

Thunder with Wasp is also really good with parkour as you can see in a few pictures of mine below.

Corrosion is a great long range paint , especially when using thunder.

One thing I don't understand is Thunder's users focus on Thunder protection because of the splash damage. Splash damage only happens at full strength in one tank length- 5m and half strength at 2 lengths (10m).  AFAIK ,While emerald is a good anti-thunder tank, Thunder is best used at med  to long range to knock campers when they are hiding in their holes, so a "cheap"  100K paint like winter  or sandstone might be a better all round idea.  Firing thunder at short range seems like a bad/suicidal idea, not just because of the splash damage , but because thunder fires so slow , if you are caught at short range         (-5-10m) with a short range range opponent, you really ought to be backing out of that  battle instead of trying to fight it out, in which case you don't need a thunder paint to begin with. I mean really, if you fight with Thunder at short range buy "Loam" for cheap, or perhaps a 150K anti-thunder paint if you got the crystal to burn.

I bring all this up because Thunder "intrigues" me as a good (any-thing but short) range turret. I don't use it , as it was it the last M1 to unlock, and I didn't buy it, but I am looking at maybe buying it at M2, if I can wait around till Captain and have the 100K to buy it, or perhaps buying a Kit with it to get a good M2 Hull also.

Rustle works miracles when you're caught by a Freeze. I use Thunder in all sorts of ranges and scenarios, with Hunter and Wasp. If I'm playing a large map, like you talked about, then I'll almost always take Digital. Small maps mean Rustle. :)

You are right. Thunder is technically a medium to long range turret. While at close range it seems like a bad idea, I've been able to adapt. First of all, I've got a slightly MU'ed Viking M2 (which will soon be M3). And then I've got a friend that I'm always in battles with. He uses isida so I've got health to spare.

I considered buying Loam for a time. I ultimately decided against it because the protections it offered were slightly low. On top of that, it lacks protection from rail gun, which you're bound to see in almost every battle. I decided on Emerald because it has a monstrous thunder protection which suits my play style quite well.

I play a lot of polygon cp matches and noise ctf matches. So I'm usually in the middle of a fight. That being said, I generally take a fair amount of splash damage. My corrosion works well, but in a polygon cp match, every health point counts. Going from 17% to almost 50% thunder protection would be a huge benefit. Add to that the twins protection. (Which is helpful in polygon as twins are rather common). And the railgun protection. While it seems on the low side, it's the same as what's on my corrosion. I can already survive a Double Power M3 railgun shot, so my railgun protection is fine. Add a few MU's and it will be perfect.

Don't worry too much about the price. I've saved just shy of 300k so I've got a few crystals to spend here and there. After I get my Viking M3, my next buy is Emerald.

Thunder user with a Thunder paint: Protection from enemy Thunders

                                                    Protection from yourself

Your biggest enemy is often yourself. And, there is no other paint that gives so much practical protection

People usually mount thunder on viking which is probably why they worry about self damage, since they can't really get away from a light tank bearing down on them. I mount it on hornet and can usually keep my distance long enough to take em out. Only problem then is if they do get close self-damage is brutal. Still, I prefer it on a light hull so I can keep mobile and participate in flag capturing.

It saddens me that so many users of this turret are noobs :(

If you think that's bad, look at Ricochet.

Thunder's DPS is slightly on the low end compared to Ricochet, Smoky, and Vulcan, but the splash damage makes it worth it. Nothing's like taking out multiple people with one shot by bombarding the point in Polygon CPs.

How is Thunder in high ranks such as from  onwards? Is it still feasible and fearsome in Polygon CP despite anti-thiunder paints?  I'm planning to use Thunder M3 until maybe Field Marshal if it's good. High rankers share your insights, please XD.

if most of your opponents have rustle cedar emerald which have high protection just switch to another m3, variety is good

I notice that too. I don't see many doing bounce shots even when there is an obvious bounce shot. Also , they act like "assault guns" , and never turn their turret.

Since the release of Hammer and Vulcan accompanied by their new paints, I see less players with paints with Thunder protection than before. Thunder is quite good in Polygon CP, especially in Polygon CP, because a lot of opponents are standing close to each other near the Control Point. The special ability of Thunder, the splash damage, lets you hit several opponents at the same time and therefore gives you some kind of "advantage" in Polygon CP. Also don't forget that Thunder deals massive damage with every shot.  :D

People buy hammer protection paints because hammer is beyond annoying without it. 77 DMG for m2? Crazy.

Thunder has splash and no clip and better range, all of which do NOTHING when playing sandbox other than inflict self damage. Hammer has ruined thunder, as 1 v 1 it will neary always win.

So a Hammer will beat a Thunder from halfway across the map?

That depends on the length of the map. :P If 'halfway across the map' exceeds or is close to the maximum distance of Hammer, Thunder will win of course.

Thunder indeed is more a long range weapon instead of Hammer which can be better classified as a medium range weapon.
