Tried thunder for the first time on the test server and it's actually rather good. Could it be better than smoky is real gameplay? I'm guessing not but I've always used emerald so I can't be sure just how strong thunder is...

Every turret in the game has its pros and cons, but i really don't like thunder

it is worthless at short range because of the self-damage feature and if someone gets close to you, you are good as dead.

it is pretty bad at long range too because its damage decreases with distance.  If you are going to use a long range turret, then just use shaft or rail

i just don't like thunder (please forgive me if you are a thunder fan, i'm only giving my thoughts on it) :(

@Thunder does not deal maximum damage

With the help from Shedinja from the Wiki Thread, we finally got the clues, how the damage-over-range model works.

That also explains, why Thunder "(almost)never" deals it's maximum damage

Here is the link to the wiki thread, where shedinja explained it LINK

And here is the picture for Smoky (Thunder is alike, but the values are differnt.. especially the weak damage it way higher for Thunder. And of course it has no critical)

With the lousy 10% weak damage that smoky does it makes me wonder if I made an error in choosing it over Thunder.

Still can't believe Thunder gets 50% "weak" damage. Is that 430 @ M3?  50% x max of 860?

Thunder kills itself, does less over a distance compared to Smoky, reloads slower...the only good thing is when the splash damage actually kills the enemy and not you. Smoky reloads faster, no self harm, does more over a distance than Thunder...it's just so much better in my honest opinion

Thunder M3 average damage  <-> Smoky M3 average damage (incl. Critical)

Damage Per Minute graphs vs Range.

Mind that Thunder has additional Splash Damage, which is not part of this graphs

Nice work with all the graphs. Something I noticed - I have 35% protection against thunder and it's absolutely useless when facing a thunder equipped with DD. On the other hand, try killing a tank that has 35% smoky protection with a smoky on DD. Much tougher.

BlackWasp - do a map for Superhov and Rio.

I'm on there a lot and will be good to know where to close the distance vs Thunder.  ;)

You can do it yourself.  Get a gun that has a range of 80 m (Rico m1 or twins m4).  Where the shots dissapear, that is the vertex, and past that you should close the distance.

You are assuming I'm not too lazy for that...

That made no sense in the same way.

But I made you something different.

Please note the different scales..100m in one pic, 50m in the other

edit: should be more or less correct.. that prop counting toasts my brain :p

Thanks!

And wow... the maps a bigger than I had realized... more than 300m.  Smoky really does need to close the distance somewhat to be effective since it has that low 10% weak damage.

Thunder is weak....i did a 1v1 CTF on Stadium and the other guy was using thunder. Iike a noob i accidentally went to my flag first while being fired at, so I was like: "crap!"

So, I raced on over to the other side of the map - still under fire, I went and took his flag and made it back to mine, still alive and was able to get a repair kit on my last bit of health.

I had double armor, yeah, but damn it shouldnt have taken that many shots!

^ this cant be answered like "what is better".

Rail has it's purpouse on the battlefield.. nad Thunder has it's purpouse.

In terms ov versilability and damage per minute the Tunder is ahead; if you are a true longrange sniper then Rail is your choice.

Of course you can try to play versatile with Rail too, and it will make you a true good tanker (due to the shoot-delay and the longer reload you need to think ahead more, compared with Thunder).

Should I buy Thunder M1 at the Christmas sale? Just asking because my account @NotANewb will have around 30-35k at the Christmas sale. I have a 36/50 M1 Smoky, and I plan to finish MUing it by 2nd Lieutenant. So should I just MU or buy Thunder M1?

It really depends on what kind of game you prefer to play and what role you  like to play. I know I hated the smoky until m2. At that point it was a great pickup. So modding to m2 is not a bad deal at all. I love the Thunder at m2-3+. With DD you will get one shot kills on most of the light hulls. I think the thunder is a great defensive/midfield gun for CTF/CP. It holds up well in DM as well.

Hold the presses...Looking at your profile you love CTF. You have invested in the m2 rail. I would take my resources and MU that...don't spend crystals on the other turrets IMO.  I think you would also do well to MU the m1 wasp...it just doesn't have enough health to handle some of the more powerful turrets (thunder, hammer, etc.). Since the rebalance I love the Viking. Before the rebalance I was a Hunter fan...enough speed to steal the flag and hit the pickups...enough health to take more than one shot from a shaft or thunder.

Just my 2 cents.

Cheers!

There are what? 10 turrets in tanki? But one of them trumps all the other ones. And that's thunder. Not only is it overpowered gameplay wise, but it makes a huge explosion animation that looks epic.

One day, when I was playing, I bought the Siberian kit. It looked amazing, and I loved the freezing liquid. Fast forward to a day later, when I'm playing Polygon CP, I was killing it with the Siberian kit, until a thunder came. An M2 thunder. It 2 shoted my tank whenever I tried to capture the CP. And I had Hunter M1, the best M1 medium hull! My D/L ratio must have been 0.10. So  I switched to a thunder M0, and that actually made my D/L ratio go up. It wasn't as good as the Thunder M2, but it's better than any other weapon.

Thunders have the raw damage, but they also have the splash damage. They're like a long range firebird with a bigger AoE, higher damage, and infinite ammo. That made me buy an M1 thunder and then MU it, because it's so powerful. My D/L ratio was around 3 while I was playing on the losing team for TDM.

FYI I do NOT think it should be nerfed, because it'll ruin my investment.
