Thunder is more of a mid range kinda of turret. 

Go with m1 thunder 

 

but u could save up for the simoon kit at 3rd Lt 

Which has m2 thunder

I bought M1 thunder at Wo5 , and Mu3d it 10/10

It is a beat at your ranks and but if there are protection's aganist it need supplies

I did some calculations on the Thunder lightweight ordnance autoloader. It doens't give you any advantage as a result of the -20% damage reduction. I made a calculation in the attached file. For the calculation I kept normal damage on 900, and the rapid fire option at 720 (20% damage reduction). As you can see, only the second shot gives you some advantage, but only of the opponent got hit earlier on. Most M2 gear can handle this 2nd hit without getting destroyed. 

 

The third shot will give reasonable more impact in normal mode and much faster than with the lightweight ordnance autoloader enabled. The fourth shot in normal mode even outruns the damage in rapid mode. This gadget will only have some use if there would be no damage reduction. Else you better save your crystals for nicer things...

you're 1 rank away from unlocking M2 , just get it and MU it then you can worry about obtaining a real M3

exactly , up until lieutenant general i'll be great , after that it'll be fine but just not as good as other turrets

From your feed back i chose to not buy thunder at this time 

Since i am a non buyer having a turret which i can not use effectively is a prob

and this is my highest acc

It is your choice but I'd recommend that you change your mind again

I am a non buyer and I have thunder M3 (10/10 M2) and it's absolutely worth it , and don't worry about obtaining enough crystals to buy an M3 kit , I already have 276k and 43 containers (+3 every week) , and by the time I unlock M3 kits i'll at least have 400k , and if I open my containers i'll have enough to micro upgrade my tank to 5/20 at least.

 

So as I was saying , thunder is an amazing choice for non buyers and it's definitely worth upgrading to M3
