Not if he can't hit you. Walls and building are your friends when using railgun! :P

Thunder has 40 DPS. Railgunms DPS is 32,54

Thunder should hit %80 of the times without any delay while railgun needs all hits without delay.

Of course in range

For shaft, 37,14

Shaft needs about %87 of its potential while railgun needs %100

Play a bit crowded game or simplier map, %90 is guaranteed

Of course If you don't die

Also, railgun always runs away, so waste time

Railgun iwill be effective if there is no need tons of damage.

I must confess that Railgun loses every 1 vs 1 fight on close range against every other weapon (except Shaft maybe).

If you use faster hull, you can even beat a twins user.

Why only looking at numbers? :p I approach it differently. Viking needs 3 shots from Thunder and 2 from Railgun. If you use Railgun wisely, by hiding smartly, Thunder won't be able to shoot you when it's reloaded. That's why I won't look at the DPS in Railgun's case. You can just keep hided until your Railgun is reloaded and finish your opponent.

Rail is so useless in any Polygon Cp unless its Xp/Bp. Shoot hide and run for rail (its best tactic) is horrible for the team for CPs. Its like playing with a man down, becasue its not trying to capture the point(s)

I do agree with that. It's really useless in Polygon CP as shooting from a distance doesn't help capturing the point. And attacking won't help either due the rather long reload time.

You don't need to face the railgunner.

For CP, you just need to go to the point.

For DM, you can kill someone else (I sometimes kill 2 players before a railgun kills me with 3 shots :D )

For CTF, you can stay behind or just move with a railgun paint

For TDM, heavy+shaft+rail paint+kill mults and other non-rails

The best way to fight against railgun is, actually avoiding them.

That's the key factor?! I'm hiding after a wall or building. The splash damage can't hit me. the 'no charging' is not such a key factor then.  :P

The no charging lets the thunder hit you while you expose yourself to shoot at it, making you miss, and ultimately making it able to chase you and finish you... Done so many times C:

Keep the paints away to keep it fair. I can ro with Emerald/Jade. Thunder/Shaft won't be effective then either. :p

Good discussion btw. :p

Talking about Railgun or Shaft? :P

Okay, let's talk about my mastery gun.  :D

If you can catch the opponent with scope, okay

Another way, you will need to pull it to somewhere like that

Another way, you can prefer arcede(shafters generally prefer heavier hulls)

impact, charging, speed....

Lots of factors are important

imagine situation 1v1 without other factors like buildings etc ...what turret will rail win against? (both hornets)

buildings and other staff around arent relevant factor because of both turrets rail or thunder can use it the same way

another thing is rail combined with heavy hulls is the same lik hull without turret ..no usage

other turret mostly fit all hulls

edit: if u want to fight with rail u need to choose the surroundings while other turrets are able to adapt to the surroundings

yes

I think thunder would win, except a lot long range.

There won't be any problem about hitting the opponent(except pretty hardly possible knockaims)

there are not so many maps with ultra long range and if so its better to use shaft

Ultra long range battles are dominated by shafters.

There is a map where can be a chance to face a situation like you say.

There's no point discussing which turret is stronger or weaker. -_-

Each tanker is specialised in using different types of turrets, that's why we see different turrets in each battle, and not just a whole fleet of Thunders.

I can only say that I prefer Railgun's style of gameplay, but I can't conclude Railgun has the advantage over other turrets.

All in all, it boils down to skill and environmental condition.

You can't determine the outcome of a battle simply by the data and numbers. You can only determine the 'probability' of a desired outcome.

^^^

it all depends on whether they are comparable or not...

you cant compare the splash effect of thunder to the afterburn of firebird, but you CAN compare their respective damage and fire rate...

so you actually can compare different weapons up to a certain extent.

if tanki wants to 'balance' the game, then they have to focus on these incomparables...

otherwise people will always be able to say that railgun is better than shaft or vice versa.

but if tanki changed this, then people would have no grounds to found their complaints.

Wrong! There is always mistakes about balance and this makes the some guns more effective than the others.

This can be about the game or habits.

A good player finds this "bug" and use it.
