Against light hulls, yes, against heavy hulls, it takes forever to kill them...

With heavy hulls... I just wait until a light hull is near them, and when the two tanks are fighting, I wait until the light hull is about no health, then I steal the kill, and then wait for the reload and kill the heavy hull. That gives me 2 kills instead of 0.

You are talking about a very specific type of situation in DM.  I'm saying that in general, the faster-reloading less-damage railgun is better against light hulls now, but worse against heavy hulls. It can take forever if they are drugging and/or have rail protection. Often even if you are doing peek-a-boo against a Vulcan on a heavy hull the Vulcan will win. :P

So this is my review on the new Alteration for Railgun - "High Caliber Ammo"

When people heard about this new alteration they just thought "Oh great so they're basically giving us an option to be able to use the old Railgun for 100K crystals"

But from my testing it seems there is more to this alteration than people thought.

On paper this alteration gives you

+40% MIN damage increase

+40% MAX damage increase

+50% reload time increase

The stats are similar to that of the old railgun's stats with a little longer reload time.

I am mainly gonna talk about the M2 version because it's not avaliable for M0 or M1 (not 100% sure though) and even if it is available i just think it's not worth considering a 100K purchase for anything below M2

I am also gonna be comparing stats of the Stock Railgun, Railgun equipped with Shell Stabilization and Railgun equipped with this new Alteration.

1. Stock Railgun

Average damage per shot : 800

Average damage per second (DPS) : 168

Reload time: 4.75seconds

Now there is one important thing to note here: a stock railgun can deliver more or less DPS or Damage per shot. It's random so you can get shots that deal as low as 600 or you can get shots with a whopping 1000 damage. It's random.

2. Railgun - Shell Stabilizer

Average damage per shot: 800

Average DPS : 168

Reload time: 4.75seconds

Now you may be wondering why anyone would spend 100K on an alteration that doesn't boost your DPS or Damage per shot especially on a weapon like Railgun. Well here's why you might consider it. This alteration gives you 50% more MIN damage and 25% less MAX damage meaning that every shot that you land will deal at least 800 damage, no more unlucky shots but no lucky shots either. I think this is for players who value consistency.

3. Railgun - High Caliber Ammo

Average damage per shot: 1120

Average DPS: 157

Reload time : 7.02 seconds

I think it's quite easy to tell the difference, this alteration gives you a decent boost in damage. But compared to the old railgun (it had around 6.5s reload) it will take you almost half a second longer to fire again. That can be a pretty significant drawback on the long run.

But after the balance changes and with this new alteration i think Railgun is at its best. I have played since 2012 with multiple account on different time periods and have never seen a better railgun. Here's what it can do:

                                                                     w/o Supplies

1. Shreds anything, you can take on any hull with any amount of HP, your shots will definitely hurt.

2. It can and will 2 shot dictator M2 compared to the old railgun which had to fire 3 times instead.

3. Either one shots or leaves Hornet M2 with no hp.

4. Can 2 shot any M2 Medium hull including Viking (not always, MU recommended)

                                                                  w/ Double damage

Just don't do this guys it's just total domination of the whole enemy team in the worst case.

And yes i am speaking from experience and not just numbers. I have used the railgun with all 3 configurations mentioned above.

I've tested 2 and 3 together last night. It's pretty strong without the use of drugs.

Railgun, increase of "reload"

What is not extended by +50%

Just the [Charge time] or the [Charge time + Shot Delay]?

Using the wiki terms, M3 Railgun has three different parameters

- Shot Delay (1.1sec)

- Charge Time (3.253 sec)

- both sum up to "reload" with 4.353 sec)

I asked that myself too, and IMO the German expression is a bit clearer for this, as it says "time to load it again +50%", which means that only the charge time of 3.253 sec will be longer (=4.88) whereas the delay of 1.1 is a constant over all modifications and alterations (at least till now). I haven't tested it, so I am not fully sure tho.

Delay is not affected by modules or MUs, it depends on your which M version you have.

He's asking if the +50% reload encompasses the delay AND the reload, in which case only the reload is affected, but by a lot

Or

If the +50% reload only refers the reload, in which case only the reload is affected as well, but by less.

But nvm, it's already been figured out. :)
