If you are playing with an actual coordinated team and using voice chat it would be better to go for mammoth.

 

1. The fully charged shot will usually over kill the light hulls, especially if they are hurt already, which means your damage potential is being wasted. When you hit a heavy hull your full damage is being dealt.

2. It's better to hit something for sure then to take a chance in competitive play

3. Your team can finish off light hulls pretty fast but it will take a while to kill a mammoth/titan meaning they have more time to damage your team. Shaft can usually hurt the heavy hulls and receive no damage in return which overall helps your team more than just killing a hornet or something.

@Disorderly: He didn't say a drugging Mammoth. Most of the time, Mammoths are just sitting back, not doing much. I'll aim for the Hornets that are attempting to take my flag. Not only are they the bigger problem, but they are easy to knock off. If a drugging Mammoth is wiping out the whole team and has our flag, of course I'll take a full-power DP shot at him!

I don't think shaft is that hard, just need a good camping spot.

That's one of the reasons I gave up on shaft.

^ The shake/wobble in the scope can be pretty frustrating when your trying to hit a precise spot of follow a Wasp on N20 :P

^^ I agree. It should be tuned so that it still takes out Wasp and Hornet in 2 shots but takes 3 shots for Hunter, Viking, and Dictator and 4 shots for Titan and Mammoth (if possible).

 

^ If you strengthen it you ruin XP battles...
