Why does everyone want to use it with Hornet? Hornet has very little health and since u need to get close with firebird, u'll have lost half ur health before u even get into shooting range of the enemy.

True, but if you use something like Hunter you'll loose a lot of health before you get to your target.

This only applies if you just make a straight line for them, however, and most people use cover.

Firebird is a good turret but, I saw some persons who even don't know how to play with it

I know what you mean, all those noob firebird-hornets at the low ranks who can't even turn their turrets.

By the way I am considering buying Firewall kit once I reach Second Lieutenant. I heard its pretty overpowered, any opinions?

I never tried that combo. It's Viking for me. On lower accounts I use Wasp/Firebird because of the Fun Factor.   B)

Back as WO2 I used Firebird as a training device to force myself to turn my turret in close combat situations. I selected this non-projectile turret because of its afterburn (yeah, I was fried a lot of times even though I had already killed my Firebird opponent). From Recruit to WO2 I hated this turret and thought it was the weakest of all turrets. But I got to know the turret better. It's not made for all maps, but if you select the right battles, it can dominate - at least the area you patrol if not the battle itself.

Now I have been using it pretty exclusively from WO3 to present.

P-Shooter, I notice you have Firebird M2. Since I am considering getting it as part of the Firewall kit, I was wondering how good the afterburn is. I notice that on M0 and M1 it is pretty darn weak, so is M2 really worth it? Thanks.

Don't let my profile fool you. I have played with Railgun from Private to WO3 as a camper near my flag and used a lot mines to guard the flag and watch my back. At the beginning of WO3 is when I started using Firebird as a self-training tool to learn how to turn my turret in close combat situations. I've never gone back to Railgun since. Except maybe once in every blue moon on a large map just to change things up a bit. I totally suck as XP/BP.

Currently I play a lot of Polygon CP (at least 30-mins and also 60-mins). That map is an experience points machine. I wish I would have known that sooner. I use Viking hull since it is both mobile and can take punishment because Polygon CP is very similar to a TDM on a small map with the exception that your opponents are required to go into the "watering hole", thus a place where a turret with a continue rate of fire has a high chance of getting 1+ kills before getting killed. I find it somewhat a little bit mindless and really not a big deal if you die. Drugging is useless in this map/mode, IMHO. I use a short-range paint in this map/mode - Spark has done well for me as it matches somewhat OK against Minotaur and Firebird but really well against the Boar Kit - Rico-M2 has a punch!

But if I am playing CTF, then it depends what map and how I feel. If I feel "lazy", I will stay with the same combo I mentioned above and either guard the flag or roam mid-field point-to-point slowly making my way to the enemy camp. Usually it is just a one-way trip as if I am able to get into the enemy camp I will try to wreak as much havoc as I can to make it easier on my raiding teammates before getting killed. There are times when I reach the enemy camp and surprised that no one is guarding the flag, so I just take it. If the game is even or my team is behind, I will use Nitro and Repair when I have the flag - hey, just trying to get the lead. But if the team I am on has a huge lead, there is absolutely no reason to drug. It would be a waste.

But if I feel the need for excitement and fun, I switch to the Wasp. It is a quick hull and I can pick up the drops faster than a lot. As a defensive strategy I would try to eat up all the supplies near my camp so the enemy won't have any drops to come in "fresh". But the fun is in finding a Nitro drop, racing to the camp through a hidden path and going for the flag! If I get one-shotted, no big deal. It's a trade-off of speed for armor.

There is a HUGE difference in after-burn time between M1 and M2. At M2, the afterburner increases more than 100%. 12.1 seconds is a LONG time for an after-effect.

And to answer you both - as with any other turret/kit, Firebird is worth it if you understand how to use it properly. I know I will not win against a Shaft, Railgun or Thunder in a flat open map with no cover, but put us in a phone booth and we'll see who stands last....

I was wondering how well Firebird M3 goes after Marshal, without MUs. I figured this was the topic for it.

Do I need to MU a Fire (say I buy Prometheus) from stock for it to be effective?

If I MU'd the first 10 steps without a sale, it'd cost 44.3k. The first 20 steps costs 168.9k. 15 steps is 96.6k. This is not including speed-ups. When I get Prom, how far should I MU my Fire, and is it worth it at all?

By the way, upgrading nine steps improves my reload by only one tenth of a second and an extra 1.9 damage including burn.

Thanks for this.

Is Firebird your favorite turret?

Yeah, it is. I've probably used it the most of all turrets. The range restriction sometimes irritates me, though (Thanks, Thunder!).

You do not need to MU stock Fire M3. It already packs a punch. However, with MUs, I guarantee you this turret will be very, very lethal.

Alright, sounds good. Just mentioning what I said earlier:

Is it worth MUing it this far during a M.U. sale? I'd be using speed-ups, too, which I haven't counted as part of the price for ten steps.

I should have around 100k~ to spare, at least.

Thank you both for your answers.

It is definitely worth it if you really like the turret that much. However, I do not recommend MUing items at first that are not your favorite and most used.

44k spent, for one tenth of a second's improvement in reload, and 1.9 damage increase..? Or, I could spend everything I have at the time (anywhere from ~100k-200k+?) on it. That might win me around 20 steps.

On the other hand, I might be able to buy Guardian or Cardinal later on, with enough saving. Or another turret on its own.

I think I'll just see how many crystals I have at the time, and look at the sale discounts, etc. and decide then.  :)

I probably won't MU it that far, as such a small improvement isn't really worth it (I'll either go further or less).

OK, sounds good. For myself, I will MU my Wasp M3 like crazy, then save up and get Prometheus, then I can MU the Firebird M3, Wasp M3, Hunter M3, and Zeus paint at the same time (because I really like Firebird + Wasp and Firebird + Hunter for large and small maps respectively).

Do you have another account, or are these your plans for the future? Your plans seem to be alright; the only issue you may have is MUing. M3 Wasp to M4 costs 745 500 crystals, and Firebird around 960k. I haven't looked at Hunter yet, and I should (I'm planning to get Prom, too)...

So, it costs 807 750 crystals to fully MU Hunter. Unless you buy, you have a long path of earning and MUing ahead of you. I have that issue ahead of myself too, and that's why I'm changing decisions all the time. If I have a large pile of crystals that'll make a noticeable difference in my turret, then I'd happily MU. I'll only have 200k (enough to MU 20~ steps) and I don't think that'll make a huge difference, will it (4.2 more damage than stock, including burn time)? So, either I dump a heap into it that'll get it over half-way to M4, or I leave it.

If you are happy with only those items, then MUing over time / during sales would be fine. I myself am considering other hulls and turrets however, so I'm not sure about MUing yet. Like I said, I'll either go for a large amount of MUs or almost none.

This is my highest account. I will do this in the future on this account. I already figured out how much it will cost (a great deal) and I am willing to wait to get the crystals for it all. I've been playing with Firebird + Wasp long enough to know I really like it.

Alright, fair enough. In that case, MUing is a good idea. Just make sure you get M2 Wasp. I haven't played with Wasp very much (M0, and M1 soon on an alt) but I have with Hornet. It's my favourite hull, but M2 doesn't have enough health where I am at now. So I'm using Viking. Fire/Hornet has been my "dream combo" in a way, but I know Wasp is fun too.

I'm skipping Wasp M2 and getting Wasp M3 (since they are not far apart in unlocking) from Boreas Kit. My current Wasp M1 is MUd 31/50 and has 120.6 protection (almost M2 level) so it is really not much different than Wasp M2. Once I reach Major General I can start the MU process for my dream tank (although I will want to set aside some crystals for Prometheus Kit).
