I think you and I are at opposite ends approaching Polygon battles. You come with a strong Titan and are looking for a medium hull. I come with a strong (ish) Viking and have picked up a Titan, which I'm working on MUing.

You're right about Maestro. I don't see many in battles. I still see a lot of Stormbringers. I think the latter wins.

Rico M3 does indeed run out of ammo quick. I still think it's good for Poly DM but you have to hide and reload. It's a must. MUs help, but honestly damage drugging helps more. For Poly CP, the number of Titans and Mammoths prowling around just don't give Rico a chance. You always run out of ammo a shot of two after they press 1.

This fact is somewhat true. I tried Dic-Rico combo today, and got decent results in TDM & DM, but so-so results in CP (Or maybe my Rico M3 is not good with only 5 MUs.) I think my smoky is better.

Gotta be the MUs. Or maybe practice. I have Smoky M3 with about 9 MUs and I can't do a thing with it in Poly CP.

It could be, but how many MUs does it take for Rico M3 from 'average' to 'okay' ? Personally it took at least 20+ MUs on Smoky M3 to 'feel right' with DP (before I max it into a beast.)

Isn't poly CP meant for thunder, smoky, and firebird?

Also, is Boar kit worth the money at my rank? I've heard great stories about what it can do with the ricochet's insane auto-aim and dictator's height, but rico isn't really a favourite of mine. Should I make it a fav.?

I'd try it out on an alt before you take the plunge into using something you aren't sure about. Also, you'll have to MU it some. On my alt (@150010836, now a Lieutenant General), I have it MUd about 22/50 - and it's pretty decent for me.

Spitballing, I'd say you need 15-20 for Rico to start living up to how it felt playing with M0-M2 (around unlock ranks). I've got about 30 into mine and it's good for most battles. Still have to be careful with heavy hulls - wait until they've used a repair kit before you attack, or try and pummel them before they can press 1.

I gave Smoky another try last night (as you saw :) ) in Poly CP. I think I did a little better - stayed out of the pit and picked off some tanks as they approached or entered. It does deserve more MUs than I can afford to give it right now, but buffing that guy is on my TO DO list.

Finally, it was good seeing you in battle the other night. Hope we can team up again soon.

It's okay stock, but needs MUs to really shine. With Titan though you will run out of ammo long before you run out of health.

The other factor in your favor is that on Polygon, few tanks wear Rico protection paint. Too busy protecting against Firebird and Twins. Clay can be a problem though. The Gissmo battles I've played usually have at least two Clay tanks prowling around. I just avoid them or let someone else land the first hit.

There is Spark, if MU'd.

Couple of things-

1-Poly CP is a short to mid range map with focus on a single point. When battles heat up there is A LOT of firepower entering and flowing through that pit. The three turrets you mentioned are good but you are leaving out Freeze, Twins, and Hammer, all of which excel in short range maps.

2-BUT smart players expect short range weapons in Poly CP and outfit themselves with protective paints like Rock, Needle, and Clay to keep those turrets at bay. So the SMARTER players check out what paints are crawling around and switch out their turret to one that most tanks aren't protected against. This is why I sometimes use Rico in Poly CP when almost no one recommends it. If there aren't a lot of Clay paints, I can usually clean up everyone wearing Rock because they are afraid of Twins. When I see a lot of Clay, I switch back to Twins or Hammer. I do the same with which Paint I wear based on what turrets are prowling around. Many other players do this too.

Boar is a great M2 kit, for the reasons tou describe and the Sandstone paint. Even better if you get it on an alt account. You'll clean house, and wreck the light and medium hulls well through the M2 ranks. Just be ready to buy an M3 kit at Brigadier. M2 life ends when you reach that rank.

I am intrigued by the new kits. Perfect combos of hull, turret, and paint were hard to come by with the vintage kits, many of which seemed purposes only to get some very obscure paints into players' garages. The new kits are like candy - sweet all around. Again, with so many kit combos priced at 40% off, will anyone bother with future sales lower than that?

Sorry for wall of text ;)

A wall of text is fine imo if you describe the problem and solution in great detail lol

I'll see what I can do to get Boar ASAP, though if I reach first lieutenant before that happens I'll just get minotaur instead I suppose. Thanks for the info!

austen_pierce, I need to add one thing. In Polygon CP there are 2 major camping spots - the tunnel in the pit (there is usually a heavy hull with twins or fire and 1-2 isidas behind him) and on the wall under the big ramp (thunders like to camp there). Rico is very good for cleaning both using the bouncing feature.

You are absolutely right. Rico's bounce is surprisingly effective in Polygon. Some others locations-

-The gap between the house and the low rise cliff (opposite side of the map from the large ramp)

-The hiding spot under the small ramp (directly below the pipe and double damage supply drop)

People that say that it's weak has no brain... It's just a quite awesome gun... But u noobs do not know how to use it...

M1 is really good... in the WO's it's very powerful .. M2 sucks... For other M2 guns... M3 is awesome.. very awesome... Very strong on every tank... Just need skillful players ( such as me  ^_^ )

Agreed. Ricochet is the best turret in my opinion. People who say it sucks don't have any skills. The description says "hard to control". Only pros can aim their target correctly

Here are the pros and cons

Pros-

-Has good damage, and is good for mid to short ranged battles.

-The ammo ricochets against walls, and can aim targets where most can't aim. It also has gyroscope so it always aims the target correctly when at a weird angle.

-Has kickback if hull is unstable; used for parkour or getting on other tanks for gold box.

Cons-

-The ricochet can give a kickback to unstable hulls, causing you to flip over. Avoid this con by using stable hulls such as viking, hunter, titan, and mammoth.

-The ammo can ricochet back if you are aiming at walls (don't know why someone would do it, that would be stupid) and deal damage to self. Can lead to self-destruct.

-The turret is hard to control, so only pros can handle it. Nubs using this turret will most likely get destroyed all the time

austen_pierce, totally agreed. There are more, but let others discover them. ;) The most important is IMO cleaning the thunder's camping site. Because all other turrets need either wait for him to drive out of cover or go on the wall (which might be impossible if he placed many mines). Rico can hit him from the ground level.

ikr (i know right)

i fully agree .. when i go to battles... they think well its a easy kill ..most of the time yea ..till i get my swag on in killings.. then i rebound and even kill when i'm not trying to do ..lol but yea i'm all for this turret.. and will show anyone how to use it if they want help ..

probably not

if you upgrade it .. its ok but for the paint i would upgrade that more  to give it protection.... i have one account fully upgraded and i find there is not much different then if it had only half.. to me if you can save your crystals it for something you really use a lot ..

PrincessSeraphina, given what I have seen you do in battles using Rail with double damage , I am not sure you will like Ricochet. Sure with DD on it's a slaughter, but it's a much slower one. And you're enemies will pop repair kits when you are halfway through your clip. It can be frustrating.

I'm not really sure where the sweet spot is with Ricochet in terms of MU. I think 15 is where you start to get an edge over other M3 turrets, assuming you have played earlier versions of Ricochet and are comfortable with the turret. Again, I love Ricochet, but M3 is really not when you want to learn this turret for the first time. Make an alt and get a feel for it at M0. If you like it, get it on your main at M3 but be ready for a lot of tabks wearing Clay - don't even bother taking on a Twins tank wearing clay. You're toast.

Making matters a lot cloudier is the fact that when Rico M3 unlocks, even early in a kit, you're pretty much forced to play with Generalisimos. Every once in a while I will bring my Rico M3 with 30ish MUs into a non-Gismo battle, and I can pretty well clean house. But with Gismos - I'm usually either at the bottom or near the middle if I have a good game.

Then there is the fact that Rico gets just about the least improvement out of MUs... I think it is the second worst turret in terms of ROI. If I wasn't a die hard Rico fan, I'd definitely be putting my crystals into Isida or Twins, both of which get a lot more punch out of each MU.

austen_pierce, Sadly, I'm having that dilemma, putting a few expensive MUs into Ricochet that don't change the stats too much or put a lot of relatively cheap MUs into Freeze or Isida which upgrade the turret parameters a lot. I'll probably end up choosing Ricochet, just because like you, I absolutely adore it.

Well, Rico is actually my 3rd main weapon after Smoky and Twins...(Rail is for fun.)  I'm already having 25/50 MUs on Rico M3, might as well I finish it to 50. I usually used it when my team is not heavily outclassed and in the lead in the CP. Clay is an annoying problem, but so is Africa & rock. Usually a good team would help the enemy Clay tanks busy... Also, Rico helps to flush out tanks inside the tunnel.

I always spam it with DD... but my hull cannot take much flak due to Viking M3(8/50), so I'm leaving it on the back burner for now until my hull is stronger (unless I use Titan)
