Often it is adviced to not micro-upgrade equipment if it isn 't M3. I don 't agree with that "rule" if you have

equipment that takes many ranks till the next M-upgrade: than it becomes worth it and you take big steps while

micro-upgrading. Hulls like Hunter and Dictator are undeniably worthy upgraders.

Yup, micro-upgrading the Dictator M2 is wise, but as someone already mentioned it is also expensive.

So agreed the Dictator M2 can be micro-upgraded, but you certainly can and most Tankers also definitely will

micro-upgrade their M3 equipment, is it not?

M3 equipment like the Viking M3...

A fully MU 'd Viking does have 300 health and 9 speed. And that 's pretty fast.

So that fully MU 'd Dictator of yours with 278.2 health and 7.53 speed will still give MU 'd Viking M3 's

a run for their money?? :D

That 's also a fair comparison. Comparing MU 'd equipment against non-MU 'd equipment isn 't.

It's going to take quite a while for a M3 Viking to match a fully MUed M2 Dictator's health. M3 Viking MUs are also more expensive than M2 Dictator MUs. My point is you can buy M2 Dictator at 1st Lieutenant and potentially have a hull that will carry you well into the high ranks (perhaps not all the way to Gizmo, but you get the point). I doubt most people at Lieutenant General will have their Vikings MUed that much.

I think it's a fair comparison since there's a large gap between M2 Dictator and M3 Viking. If you're going to use M2 Dictator up until then, you'd probably have MUed it, no?

At the latter: yes, you probably will have MU 'd the Dictator M2 by than.

Even than it 's still five very long ranks towards Generalissimo: quite a huge gap from MJ general to Generalissimo

and an owner of a Viking M3 would start micro-upgrading very soon I presume.

And you can fully invest in the Viking M3 because you already reached the M3 upgrade.

So you would not need all those five ranks to (fully) MU the Viking M3.

(and personal circumstances like for example having multiple accounts means that you can wait for MU discounts

before playing further)

Dictator is a good hull, but it just has to suit you. And for several reasons: size, shape and speed related

I personally much rather have a Viking.

Even if it seems by only looking at the stats on "paper" that it is a weaker hull.

Test-server time is a great chance to test those hulls and turrets and that 's also why the Viking is my favourite.

And don 't forget at M3 you would be facing the same extra needed upgrading time you mentioned with your Dictator M3:

that the Viking M3 already had.

I've tried M3 (and M4) Viking on the test server. I don't really like it; I think M3 Hunter and M3 Dictator are far better. That's my opinion, so let's just leave this debate at that.

I have same tastes as TKP :O

Lets do a Dictator party on New Year ok? :D

Dictator is discussed on literally every thread now...

As it should.

Anyway, back on topic:

I'm wondering if I should beef up my M1 Smoky's stats. I'm not using it that much since it's getting a bit obsolete, but I know that fully MUed M1 Smokies are terrifying, so I'm not sure.

Sure, why not? @TKP

What parameters would you recommend upgrading? Normal damage doesn't seem to be that important, but critical damage and impact force are definitely what makes full MU M1 Smokies powerful, it seems.

Crit damage MUs really nice (speaking from experience here).

Impact force would be great too

Mark my words - Smoky M3 will be the very first thing I buy on New Years; before Inferno, Irbis and Emerald.

The MUs I'm gonna get on it are going to be impressive too.

Normal damage = most important

This is how powerful M1 Smoky can be when minimally upgraded: http://i.imgur.com/BszWL9h.jpg

I was fighting against mostly M2 Hornets, a few M1 Hornets, one M1 Viking, and one M2 Hunter. They were all easy prey for my Smoky, especially since I've upgraded the impact force a few steps. I'm going to start MUing the critical damage and impact force further when MUs are discounted; with those two parameters maxed out, my Smoky will be pretty close to a M2 Smoky in power.

Smoky M2 min damage is higher than max m1 damage :P

This thing rocks now.

That new auto-aim update makes it possible to slam light hulls over with one shot... even when they're moving.

I upgraded that knockback to the max, highly recommended.

I already knew new physics lol

I 1 v 1 ed my friemd in xp... and we flipped so much it wasn't normal. I came with the theory that now you aim the turret. Now I predict parkour mode with auto-aim in your own team or smething like dat :D

I said "close", not equal to. A M1 Smoky can have a maximum of 81.8 critical damage and 285 impact force, which is enough to deal with most enemies. It's not as good as M2 Smoky, but hey, for an M1 unlocked at First Sergeant, that's really good.
