I LOVE the critical shots, the impact and the not slow reload speed of the gun. the gun is simply amazing especially now in space battles where it is so hard and tempting to not shoot a railgun and easily knock off its aim. even not in space its easy. this is why im getting paladin kit on my main: FAST_N_DEADLY, i have 99 xp left, and ill rank as soon as its in the garage! but ima go see if people think im noob with m2 smokey and viking then ill buy it and then see if im noob hehe shhhhh. just right this moment people are judging me so hard right now o.O

Nice, quoting a post from 4 years ago

The critical shot is still cool, but not as strong as it was back then.

Tested m4 smoky with both alts equipped on test

and Precision targeting system really sucks due to 40% increase in reload time

Just saved my 5k :p

Because it used to be OP, thus many players have it upgraded. Now it isn't that powerful, but still a very good turret, so you will see those same players will play with it.

Which is why they would use double damage nowadays.

So if smoky isn't so OP, then why am I seeing like 2 or 3 of them in every battle that I go to?

I imagine many players with turret choices are using the fsatest-firing turret they have because if the new RK rules. For some people that would be Smoky. Every garage has a Smoky and a Hunter. That would explain dome uptick in Smoky use. As for 2-3 in every battle I don't see anything near that.

This turret is consistently disappearing from battlefield and mostly collecting dust in garages.

Too lazy to hold a comparison between Smoky and Thunder but just one look at their statistics in Wiki is enough to affirm that the latter outperforms Smoky any day, say nothing of Ricochet..

The bottom line is Smoky must be considerably strengthened in order to make it viable against other mid-long range turrets such as Ricochet, Thunder and most importantly Magnum!

im just leaving this here..

It would be a good idea for all modifications of Smoky to be given a strong critical attack and low critical chance. There would be an alteration to give it a weaker critical in exchange for a higher chance. This would be for M1, so that it would not interfere with the no criticals alteration.

The 10% "weak" damage certainly does not help it. Stands no chance at very long ranges compared to Rail/Shaft/Thunder/Magnum/Striker.

At close-medium range Twins/Ricco/Hammer beat it.

Smoky has such a narrow range of distance where it might outperform other turrets.  It gathers dust in my garage as I break in Ricco.

Also any turret can beat Smoky in a 1 vs 1 situation and that makes it one of the poorest choices out there.

I personally stick to my Hammer since Smoky is actually no longer functional even at M4.

That's kind of what the devs wanted to reduce, doing lots of critical damage only by chance and not by skill. In fact, low tier Smoky has high critical damage (660 at M0, which is pretty powerful) but low critical chance, while high tier Smoky has low critical damage but higher critical chance. I think it's fine how it is.

M0 inflicts 660 damage per critical shot while M4 inflicts 770 damage.

Only 110 differnce over 4 entire modifications, that sucks!

Smoky M4 had a reload time of 1.2s and 1000 critical damage not long ago

Smoky can also beat any turret 1:1 so that seems about right.

I do use assault ammo (+impact) nearly 100% of the time now. Based on what I see shot back at me not many Smoky users use it.

Smoky seems OK as was said it is competitive. What irks me is some turrets (I am looking at you Rico) have too many tools in their toolkit compared to Smoky. Thank God most Rico users still do not turn their turret.

Personally, i believe this turret is dying slowly and like someone said above; Rico is a better choice therefore most of smoky users switched up to it.

Now lets try to figure out what made Smoky less common; Of all the other turrets Smoky has been weakened the most which made it impractical and useless.

I have Smoky M4 which used to be much more powerful back in the day before the so called latest re-balance updates.

I dont deny that Smoky was slightly overpowered compared to a few other turrets, so the damage reduction was necessary, but the RELOAD TIME should've have remained untouched because it gives a huge advanatage to Ricochet when its up against Smoky..

Technically speaking, i feel hilariously ridiculously outgunned when im up against Ricochets M4.

Moreover, Smoky protective modules work very well against it because simply the damage per shot is considerably low -Even critical shots-

And in order to test it out, it only takes a full clip for M4 Ricochet to destroy an M3 Viking with 50% rico protection

On the other hand, it takes around 10 shots -15 seconds roughly- for M4 Smoky to destroy a Viking M3 with 50% Smoky protection.

Smoky was a forefront brutal lethal turret before being heavily weakened, and now Rico is taking over and getting more common and dominant thanks to its fast reload, high damage and fairly long range not to mention its fast projectile, strong impact and high continuous firing rate which makes it nearly impossible for us Smoky users to aim properly when using light or Medium hulls.

I agree as well. Rico was buffed too strong especially by those +2 projectiles in the clip (this change happened when Rico also lost some autoaim degrees). A small note on the side, an M4 Rico needs on average 15-16 shots for a Viking M3 protected with 50% while there are 14 of them in one clip, but anyway the effect of a Rico protection should be by far bigger. In my opinion and in hindsight it would have been better if Rico had only 12 projectiles in the clip as it used to have.

No wonder its one of the most popular turrets currently, you see about 2-3 Rico users in every match.

I think he means out-DPS the Smoky, but that's a pretty good list. I'll keep it in mind when I'm playing Smoky.  B)

Of the same modification, same hull, same amount of hp remaining, and same skill level? I would say that railgun would lose every time if it's not at long range.

Smoky is stronger than thunder. I've tested it in TO and TX it's stronger.

I wouldn't say "stronger", since thunder deals more damage per shot for a longer reload time. But smoky can beat a thunder in a duel.

Yeah so it's stronger. I didn't move just stood there kept shooting and thunder died and I survived.  Smoky deals slightly less damage than thunder, however because of it's reloading it deals double the amount of one thunder bullet.
