I took post-update values for this. Anyway, I like Thunky more than Smonder  :D

Which Smoky M2 DPS were you talking about, was it minimum or maximum, that was 16% higher than Thunder's DPS?

Very much appreciated, thank you!

It was based off the average of min/max

@weak damage:

the definition is unclear, as they do not state which is the base value for the % value.

I asked about it in the wiki-thread but it was not very fruitfull yet.

However.. the german wiki stated it is a % value from max damage. Having some caluclations on DPM and so on, I have to say this makes most sense over all.

still.. 50% is decent. Especially, as the splash comes too, which kicks in full force on tanks around your target.

Over all Thunder deals more damage in average.. and as your exposure time is lower (you can spend more time behind cover) you should get the batter deal with it in midfield and defense.

Smoky could be a more offensive turret if the impact force works; if you like to rush in and play fully exposed.. but actually then I would chose twins or Rico (the dpm of twins is just crazy and the range is fine if you know how to reach an enemies base with cover; while the Ricos timeToKill is great).

@ LittleWillie,

during your smoky tests on the testserver.. did you notice that the impact force was.. well.. not so usefull?

I had the impression that those smokys did push my tank.. but it was a lot easier to handle them with my rail then in todays balance settings (in the tesserver I had far less misses due to smoky impacts in my wasp then usual).

Yes, I did not find the impact force from Smoly very significant. I did notice Rail's impact spun the new Viking a lot. And once, once a Smoky spun my nose hard. I think that was probably a Smoky using the alteration. But when I used the alteration I could not really tell if it was on or not. I did make one Wasp do a crazy flip, once. but who know how it would have flipped with anormal impact force? Maybe not as dramtic but it'd have flipped.

As someone said, the Smoky alteration might be fun at time ... if you have 50,000 Cry you don't need for anything else.

Here is an updated table, in which I added the weak damages (criticals with no distance decline) and also splash damages. I assumed, that the thunder alteration does not reduce the splash damage as well.

I'm not sure I understand everything in that table...

Thunder (std) M4 - "Max Splash Dmg." = 250.00. 250 what? Can't be 250 damage. That seems way too high. Shaft damage territory...

I hate smoky. It does so little damage, but when you're on low health after being shot a couple times, you think you have two more shots to be killed, but that last shot seems to have its damage increased and you die. Not to mention the sound of being hit is annoying...

Starting tomorrow you won't have to worry about that "damage increased" issue. They are nerfing the critical for smoky. Will barely do more than it's normal damage.

Seems legit. Though I assumed it is significantly reduced the farther you are away from the impact point and it isn't applied on the direct hit tank... But this doesn't sound convincing. The consequence is then it is pretty sure that the naming of "Splash damage" in the Thunder parameter table is incorrect, because it is probably only an impact force parameter.

It appears to me that the splash damage is 100% at the impact point = Normal dmg. of Thunder at a certain distance (max./min./weak dmg.), and with a further damage decline within 12 m around the impact. So theoretically not a direct hit but a splash hit with 0 m distance from impact point by a thunder shot within its max. dmg. range is equal its normal max.damage.

Anyway to get back to Smoky, the Smoky's combined weak damage of 4/5 weak standard shots and 1/5 critical shots (without distance decline) is at 29,3% for all M levels (referring to Smoky's max. damage). Also since the critical shot has been strongly nerfed, the Smoky alteration won't be as bad as it looked at first, when compared to the standard.

That makes no sense...the smoky is so weak the critical is its only asset to killing people!

I agree. Have smoky M2 and currently saving for Guardian Kit.  Now I'm not sure ... so... have some time before I have all crystals for kit. Hopefully feedback over next month will convince me either way.

I am in a similar boat. I would have bought Northerner just before this change was announced if it had been in the rotation. Bow I do not know what I will buy after the change ... but I have been sitting on this pile of Cry for a long time and the wait still is not over. The philosophy at Tanki seems to be, "Punish the Customer".

Awe man and Smoky gets really good at M2 level! Such an increase in power and the criticals being so often! In the next two ranks I should be seeing people with M2 Smoky....sooo powerful! M3 could kill my M1 titan in just a few shots!

the damage decreases significantly with range.. but if a wasp shots the wall infront of it, it would die instantly.

As this is not the case, the parameter is wrong (or the explanation.. but I guess the parameter)

Someone gets what it feels like! Thank you. :)

That's the thing about the way this game is set up. At some ranks your gear is newly upgraded and you cruise. At other ranks it's flip-flopped and life o n the battlefiled is short.

I guess I could test this on my "experiment-away" account. . .

A fully MU m3 can kill me in four shots...although i dont have to deal with that...well at least until the M3 does come into play...which I think it comes before the Colonel rank....not sure but thats when i will get M2 Titan and I will get a 105 increase in protection!

First two 15 minute games after nerf I am 22-2 and 33-4 with M4 smoky. I'll take that. Thank God isida M4 can no longer rule. I made sausage out of them in first two games. Before 2 or 3 M4 isida and you are hosed.

I was nowhere near as good as that but I am quite relieved at first playing. I'm more worried about which medium hull is the one for me now. But I so far Smoky sems OK. the turret speed changes haven't been as bad as I thought ... so far.

Heh, I forgot to mention ... yeah I beat up a m3 Islda with my m1/m1 smokey/viking so that much has been a big change I reckon.

They nerfed a lot of weapons so I think it's fair game.

Debatable; if things needed to be nerfed, why did they buff two already OP turrets ( twins and firebird )? -_-

Twins was nerved because its impact force is reduced massively.

It's mai asset that made it OP was it's ability to control the enemies turret away from you by impact force.. and now.. it is jsut a damage dealer that can not use cover between his shots.

Many Twins users that write serious stuff here in the forum and seem to have a feeling for balancing  stuff, complain about it beeing nerved

Yeah, it did decrease impact force...but it did get increase in range and travel velocity of plasma shots as well as dps.

interessting thing is that lower ranked players M1/M2 twins complain about the shooting frequency (reload time prolonged). I wonder if this was really necesary.. but anyways.. this is the smoky thread.

Has someone in UTC+0..UTC+3 a smoky M3 and would like to test criticals on me?

I received some today.. and I cant tell if they were sooooo strong at weak damage range. I had 40% protection + DA.. so my M2 wasp was not even bothered by that M3 smoky. All MUs where off
