..and air resistance. Velocity is not constant over the flight path

but anyways.. tanki has no physics model for shooting.

For working across the map, thunder is way better, as it has 50% weak damage (this is the damage edalt beyond the min-dmg-range

Can't believe they give Thunder 50% weak damage but Smoky what... 10%? The discrepancy is way to big.

Had I wanted to purchase a Thunder....  I wouldn't be here complaining about the Smoky.  I own a simple garage.  So, when they make an update that negatively affects my game playing experience. I think I have every right to lay down a complaint.

Yes you do, but your statement about solid shells doing the same damage over distance is false.

Not a good comparison.  M1 should not be fighting M4.

When I was candidate for battle mod, I learnt that when using too low equipment for your rank, it is considered as sabotage and it is banable offence. BUT, this only is against rules when fighting team battles, in DM, it is no problem. If you want to ''test'' out some hull or turret before buying higher rank turret, use it parkour match, create private battle or go to DM.

Sure - I agree. The only one you hurt by using lower equipment is yourself.

The conversation started when another tanker said Smoky is way better than Thunder because... an M4 smoky destroyed his M1 viking in 1-2 shots. It got off the rails when discussing who can fight with what. My original retort was on the comparison/performances.

I thought that comparison was without merit because A) it compared smoky to Viking and B) The M-levels were so far apart.

It's like saying a Mazda RX-8 is way better than a Chevy Cruz.  No kidding!

How about comparing an RX-8 to a Corvette. Better comparison.

sure; and your complaints are very welcome. If noone says something, then nothing will get better (I have an Isida M3.. I absolutely understand you).

It was just the way you complained, that makes it easy for them to block you off. "Tanki is not ment to be realistic, it is an arcade game" <- one of the default answers. Actually I can not give you a tip how to complain, as I am no Smoky player. But good luck on it.

ps: the dev's are said to pay more attention to the news related posts then to this ones..

I served SIX years in the United States Marine Corps.  I was assigned to an artillery unit in their AEMS (Artillery Electronic Maintenance Section).  I know from experience that a 200lb. artillery round is just a lethal at close range as it is at Maximum Effective Range.  The same can be said about 120mm round coming out of the M1A2 Abrams tank main gun.  So, when I see damage dealt by the Smoky at 300-400 hp for up close and personal hits and 20 to 30 for hits across the board.  I am sorry but that just doesn't jive in my book.

Well you are right that a HEAT (high explosive anti tank = shot by tanks vs tanks; your M1 Abrh, example) ammo deals it's damage mostly independent of the range.. just because it is not a mass/impact based projectile.

If you write something about "Basic physics boys and girls mass, acceleration, velocity any of these things ring a bell?", then it sounded to me that you talk about something like a KEP (kinetic energy penetrator) that relies on mass, acceleration and velocity. And those have the issue that air resistance decreases their target velocity > reduces energy delivered > reduces penetration > reduces effect on enemy tank.

But anyways.. Tanki does not claim to be realistic.. therefore you have to argument in a differnt way if you want them to notice your (valid) complaint.

You and I are talking about different things.  The artillery shells have penetration and strength based on the explosive itself(coming from the radius of the explosion), not the speed it cuts through the air. A shell like the one smoky uses would lose velocity over distance, and therefore would be less effective.  The Abrams is a smoothbore-fitted tank, therefore a variety of shells and missiles can be used.  HEAT shells are one of the types, another one is SABOT rounds.  HEAT rounds rely on the shaped charge itself to penetrate through armor, not the muzzle velocity. Please be specific.

I agree - Tanki is using basic ballistics.

Like a Sherman vs Tiger I from WW2.

At 500m Sherman could penetrate frontal armor. At 1000m - try to close the gap quickly!

Well..if you drug it with smoky and viking you can wreck anybody within range. Freeze, Firebird, Shaft, Hammer, Railgun...it's just so awesome...but if Freeze, Isida or Firebird drug you're done for...unless you have skills enough to live through it!

At 500m Sherman could pen the Tiger II from the FRONT?  No way :D. After the M26 Pershing came out they were better off.

The M4A1 (with 75mm gun) could not.

The M4A3E8 with 76mm gun could at 500m or less.

It still kind of depended on the angle of the armor..  In terms of Tanki hulls most of them are very sloped at the front and perpendicular at the sides, which means the sides are the best place to hit.

I'm having a weird experience with smoky.

It's M3 (15/50) but when I shoot across the halloween map it only does ~ 28 damage.

When I get upclose next to a tank it does around 200, which is lower than the specifications on paper?

It's only when I'm mid-range that smoky does serious damage.

That's strange. Around 200?  That's how much my m0 smoky does.

I have said before - smoky at m4 is the most awesome OP weapon. At lower levels not so much. And thunder splatter damages yourself so bad I rarely play it. I quit playing thunder when they nerfed it the last time back in early 2015.

Nobody's arguing with you :D.  Almost everyone agrees that smoky m4 is OP.

I love being able to kill such strong tanks in mere seconds when I have DD. at 10 MU my Smoky M1 can wreck just about anything on the battlefield Gonna save up for M2 now that I have M1 Viking :D

They nerfed the distance. It's close to mid-range now, not mid to long-range.

I have to disagree. Ever since I got Smoky M1 on my new account my k/d is going up! I can kill so many tanks with it. Give me DD and I can destroy anything!
