Viking : The 2nd most versatile hull in the game after hornet. It goes well with every turret. It's my primary hull. I usually use it with Isida and its results are awesome. Viking gives Isida enough health to survive. This combo can easily battle with heavy hulls.

Agreed. I'm not paying the full 99k crys for the M2. September is a long way away, so unless a kit comes along I'll be playing on my alternate account. I need to stock this account back up on daily bonus drugs anyway.

Very popular Hull. Although, if they stopped transferring it's status from Hunter to Viking and back to Hunter once again, much more owrth the crystals, even though now VIking has the Strength and I believe Speed also. (Correct me if I am wrong) Works amazing well with Isdia I notice. Also pairs great with Riochet and Freeze. At the top of my list is Isdia for now though. Upvote if you agree with me. NO HATE ZONE

I made Lt. Colonel rank and have enough crystals to buy M2 Viking. I have not bought it yet... I am waiting for a sale or a really good kit. The Winter paint on the Northerner kit just doesn't do it, nor does the smoky turret.

 

What I just noticed is that M2 Viking is only good for about four ranks and then M3 unlocks. If Raiden or another good M3 kit comes back around those unlock at Brigadier, which shortens M2 Viking to only two ranks. It's looking less and less like I will be spending that 99k crystals on M2 Viking.

 

I also checked kit pricing. It's good. M3 kits are only charging the M3 mod upgrade price whether or not you already have the M2, and then cutting a % discount off of that. That means is I can skip M2 completely and buy a M3 kit at a discount.

 

That also means my M1 Viking has to last until at least Brigadier o-O. That's going to be rough but I already MU'd the heck out of that M1 in the birthday sale, so if I toss a few more crystals into it's armor I hope the slaughter won't be too bad.

 

What do you think? Have other folks skipped mod levels this way, particularly this narrow band of M2 Viking life?

Simple, use a light or heavy hull till m3 Viking. Or you can use Viking m1, any armour points over 190 shall be alright till brigadier.

As a person who never bought Viking m2 and then bought m3 in a kit, I would say that using Viking until brigadier or general is a bad idea... I used dictator m2 until brigadier and I could dominate any m1 hulls I would see in a battle. When you reach colonel, you will see more and more m3s in every battle and they will wreck your m1 (sry). Your best bet is playing with either hornet m2 or dictator m2 until brigadier... even if it means spending crystals you otherwise would've saved for the kit...

My M1 IS getting wrecked in death matches. But so is EVERY other hull. There is simply so much firepower in the game that armor becomes irrelevant. After all what difference is 10, 20, 50, or even an extra 100 armor points really going to do for you when you're being attached by two Firebirds, an Isida, and farther back, a Thunder... ALL using double damage. That's the new Tanki with unlimited supplies and an OP Firebird. Viking (Hunter too for that matter) are too slow to escape.

 

For now I'm going to save crys until I get to Colonel and re-evaluate. And I'll eat Double Armor like candy.

 

The timing of the Tanker's day sale will be important too. If I haven't made Brigadier yet or am not even close to doing so, a 50% or better discount might make me rethink skipping Viking M2.

 

Edit: this is going to be harder than I thought. It's taking a long time to get through Lt. Colonel and my M1 is getting crisped by Firebirds and knifed by Rails and 2-shotted in as many seconds by drugging Hammers. Doesn't help that there are very few battles at my rank... Usually end up on EN2 with ranks almost all the way up to Gismo.

Am I the only one who noticed that Viking M3 is now unlocked at instead of like it used to be?

You guys are probably sick of reading about my decision to wait till brigadier and skip Viking M2 in favor of a kit with M3.

 

Good news :). The 30% sale was enough for me to buy M2 with plenty of crystals to spare.

 

I was sick of my M1 getting trashed by drugging Colonels anyway.

 

In other news, I am seeing more Viking and Hunter on EN2 server than at lower ranks. Most notably Hornet usage has dropped from 70% to more like 30% as tankers look for hulls that can stand up to M2 and M3 turrets on the now ubiquitous double damage.

 

EDIT: EN2 is chock full of M3 hulls and turrets lately. I have to play EN3 in order for my M2 Viking to last longer than 10 seconds on small and medium maps.

Disadvantage of Viking is it 's speed, or rather the lack off.

 

Smoky with it 's high fire rate and fast turret rotation in combination with

a very decent damage range does a great job

in compensating that lack of speed.

 

No self-damage like with Thunder makes it possible to defend yourself

properly against close-rangers.

It Lacks Maximum Speed.

It Is OP in armor in M0/M2/M3.

And its a suitable Hull to combine with Turrets with high Impact Force. (Hammer/Thunder/Railgun etc)
