Rico Viking is a great combo but difficult to stick with due to very different unlock ranks later in the game.

Rico is also much more effective at M1 and M2 than it is later. Still good just an uphill struggle to place well in battle.

A while back I posted about skipping the two M2 ranks and going straight from M1 to M3 via the Jackhammer kit. I didn't do it. I don't regret not doing it. But I do think I die just as much with the M3 as I would have with the M1. There is just so much yield with high M2- M3 weapons that hull choice is not that relevant in crowded maps.

On a related note, I used to incorrectly believe that the hull had an impact of a weapon's damage. Said another way, a shot from M1 Smoky does more damage when fired from a Mammoth than a Wasp. Not true, of course. The truth is that all yield depends on the attributes of the turret. The only difference the hull makes is how long you last under fire and how fast you can reach your next enemy. Still when I see a Wasp sporting a Shaft some part of me still doesn't find that as threatening as that same Shaft on a Mammoth. After all that Mammoth should be able to put more oomph into that shot right? Wrong, of course. Actually the Wasp is MUCH more of a threat since it can fire and run during Shafts long reload, whereas the Mammoth is a sitting duck.

In my experience, if I see a Shaft-Wasp, I know to be careful since the user almost always knows what they're doing- if they didn't know how to capitalize on its strengths, they'd use another combination. :)

Right. At the risk of straying farther off topic, I see a lot of effective shaft use in crowded maps like Rio and Polygon, where I would not expect them to do well. I think they are actually taking advantage of players focus on the flag or control point.

Something really bothers me about viking m3:

Hornet M3 Price: 158k                    Viking M3 Price: 195k

Armor +40                                     Armor +20

Speed +1.9                                   Speed +0.4

I have no idea how to calculate the other parameters but this is pretty much a meaning that Viking M3 is a RIPOFF.

I won't argue the above. I will instead say that if you pay list price for M3 equipment, you kinda deserve to get ripped off. There is no better example than Viking M3. There are at least five kits with this hull, each slashed by about 40%, so you can pretty much pick the weapon you want. Most of these kits unlock at Brigadier, so you also get M3 hardware before most other players. If you absolutely have to have a turret other than Isida, Thunder, Freeze, Hammer, and Smoky, wait for a sale and snag what you need at 40-50% off that way.

Yes there are Hunter kits too, but they unlock much later in the game, and to be honest, none of them are very good. Yes, I bought Redneck because I had to have Rico M4 at Marshal instead of waiting for Commander (blech).

I think the price difference is related not to the M3 stats but the DIFFERENCE between that and the stock M2 stats. But heck, I concede that too because Hunter M2 unlocks way earlier than Viking M2. IDK.

Actually, it might just be fair market value pricing. Viking is so much better thank Hunter, people are willing to pay the higher price.

Anyone can help me to compare M3 viking and M3 hunter shot swinging abilities? Acceleration, weight and height could make a difference in theory, but did anyone try it out which one is better to swing shots to larger degree up- and downwards?

Hunter is better for this. Viking's stability limits how much you can rock the hull.

I've tried that combo a few times due to situational advantages. I was playing in Stadium DM and I noticed that there were a lot of railguns. In my mind, I thought, well I could be like everyone else and do xp/bp combo, orrrrrrrr, I can out-tank all the other railguns with M3 Titan M3 Railgun with Prodigi paint! Sure those xp/bp guys can do amazing trick shots and dodging, but if they wanted to face me, they still had to expose themselves for a split second while my railgun fires a well-timed counter shot that cant be knocked off due to my weight. While they had to spend time hiding between shots, I can stay in the open, ignoring railgun shots left and right and be at a prime position to fire on the next target. Of course, I can knock their aim off while mine was steady. At the end, I was first! So yeah! Railgun Titan is viable! Just pay attention to the combos being used by everyone.

I will say it's not a combo for breakthroughs or attacks unless you stick to the main attacking force, it shines on open maps with plenty of little barriers to pop out from. The most used asset is definitely DD, because you need to take out a target before it can counter-attack to survive long.

If you want to continue discussion PM me. :)

Who hates the fact that on madness, it is phyisically impossible for a viking to land straight?

Yes use your weapon to stabilize you. Or learn the spots where you land correctly based on height and tumble. I used the latter technique and rolled off a certain platform sideways - before I learned to fly my Viking using Ricochet.

There is also the pro tip of entering a turn just as you leave the edge. It puts your tank into a flat spin which is good for a lot of height. I use this to land off of the roof in Rio even using FireWasp

Use Thunder, Hammer, Ricochet, Smoky, and Freeze with Viking. You can also use it to catch a gold box (I`ve caught a gold with Rico and Viking when I was Sergeant).

Anyone notice that Dictator takes over Viking in speed and HP at M3? I didn't til' just now.

I noticed. I had sort of gotten used to thinking of Dictator as a hull without a home since I just couldn't figure out a good use for the thing. Then I took a good look at its M3 and M4 stats. Better than Viking. Damn.

But... No one is buying. No one is using. Why?

1-No kits - no early access or reliable discount on the hull.

2-Viking is close enough. And you can snag it in very early unlock kits at Brigadier and start your M4 process LONG before you are Gismo.

3-Players have already invested in other combos. Only a Gismo with crystals to burn is going to pick up and MU another hull. New Gismos are going to polish their existing combos and then pick up and polish NEW TURRETS. Rounding out a hull collection is so meh.
