Hmm I used to love my hunter, had m2 long before I got any viking, but I needed something beyond m2, and Viking was available. Used to feel slow compare to the Hunter, but since the rebalance there's no longer any point to using Hunter at all.  Its become slower, weaker....  Having said all that, the Viking now flies, and does donuts.

I'll happily stand by Viking, definately with thunder, but I believe it will work equally well with any number of turrets.  Only major drawback for me is small fast people that can either outrun you significantly, or slow you down like freeze.

Lots of Love

With speed boost a viking can out run a wasp of its model and lower. I have Viking and gosh with DA it took five m1 rail shots to kill me from mere meters away...I was upside down on Halloween on saturday...and gosh it was funny, two guys shooting at me xD So yeah with DA and SP you're faster than a wasp and stronger than a mammoth.

Do I understand that right, that you compare a M2 Hunter with a M3 Viking?

I consider the agility (accelerations) of the Hunter as more usefull then the very small top speed difference. For me dodging (based on acceleration) is more important to me then beeing faster. Especially because driving at topspeed for 10sec, the Viking is less then a Wasp-length ahead of the hunter.. which makes no difference if you use midrange or longrange turrets. It may make a difference for closerangers.. but I guess they are better off with precise control and less drift.

Overall I like to swap my M3 Viking for a M3 Hunter after the rebalance.. but I am glad that you are happy with your Viking :)

I guess the armor makes up for the lower amount of speed, but the speed makes you a harder target to shoot and it takes speed to cap flags :p Plus Viking looks cooler...besides, at M4 level, Dictator, Hunter and Viking have the same amount of armor, but Viking is the fastest, but a little more expensive than Hunter.

That would be right, because I had both prior to rebalance, at which point the hunter was still faster than the viking. Not a lot, but was enough difference to put a different weapon on it and go... I prefer top speed over acceleration, sometimes you feel like you need tro get out and push though :) But post rebalance, the hunter is entirely superfluous... IMHO. Less armour and less speed, its like a brick compared to what it was. :/

Basically, Viking is better on melee turrets, and Hunter is better on ranged.  Hunter's shape makes it better for Peek-a-boo tactics you would use in Highways or Monte Carlo, because the distance from the end to the turret mount is less.  Hunter's acceleration and anti-inertia also enables it to get in and out of cover rather quickly, whereas top speed doesn't matter in that situation. It is also more stable when under fire. However, Viking's low profile is better concealment and is better for stealthily getting from one place to the other.  Also, Viking's shape means it is harder for a freeze to circle, and it is more stable (a bonus for melee turrets that can't get themselves up from their side).  Viking's speed is better for chasing down fleeing ranged turrets as well.  Dictator's advantages include the height, (in some situations, like Noise, Dictator is the only hull that can fire back effectively..). Also the height paired with fire or freeze effectively give it penetrating power as the cone angle will hit two tanks, one behind the other.  Dictator also has the best pushing power and weight, which is good in many diverse situations.

For the peek a boo thing, I use Smoky which has impact force, and I make the situation to where the enemy is doing the peek a boo. I do test shots while they are behind cover, which also is a way of suppressive fire to keep them behind cover. My tactic is to shoot as close to the wall as possible. To do this, I compare where my shot hits in relation to the wall's distance from my shot, so when they peek out even the smallest bit, I can shoot them before their turret becomes visible. My brain can process things 2x faster than the average human being so, the increased distance from the rear of my tank (the shortest) doesn't really apply as a factor for me. And things you've mentioned for Viking is exactly how I use it. With speed boost, I'm faster than a wasp, and I love the Berlin map, which isn't all that popular and is really big, so getting around is no problem. These three tanks are better than another in their own ways, but it boils down to reference and Viking is mine...plus it looks the coolest in my opinion :)

wow..

Comes in handy when I play games that revolve around drag racing...fastest time I reacted to the green light was 0.152 seconds when average is 0.6 ish. 0.152 is quicker than half 0.6 but I was on a roll :D

Smoky is better when it can constantly rain shots on a target taking advantage of it's quick reload. In peek-a-boo you lose that advantage.

In a peek-a-boo battle using smoky your success depends a lot on the opponents turret as it tends to be a one-for-one shot battle.

Thunder and Rail do 2x (or more) damage per shot vs smoky.  Unless you can consistently disrupt their aim, smoky will lose that battle.

For this type of strategy you might want to get the Impact Alteration.

"My brain can process things 2x faster than the average human being so, the increased distance from the rear of my tank (the shortest) doesn't really apply as a factor for me." Um... what?

Viking is a very balanced hull and it was my favorite until recently. I got the firebird m1 (since that is the only m1 turret i can afford ;) ) and that has forced me to change my tactics ( i previously used viking/rico) .  I now use hunter with my firebird.

I want to start using viking again and I was wondering what people think the best m0/m1 turret is to use with viking.

I mean, you can stick with Firebird m1, not spending your crystals on anything else, put it on Viking, and Play in Noise and Polygon.  Viking and Firebird is a good combination, especially for crystal grinding on small maps.

Freeze = anti drug.

Shoot em till they heal, and once done, reload and equip Double damage and waste em

I like the way you think. At WO5 though, you're gonna needlessly burn through precious supplies. My advice is to save them for your higher rank battles.

I used to think Viking was crap after the update. But now, I realize that it is just a bit...different. I love Viking with Thunder. Definitely getting m2 soon.

I went through 86 free drugs in two days xD

When I drug and a freeze approaches, they just throw on DD and attack and i can just heal and kill them...

wait till the drugger heals, THEN throw on the DD
