Let's Discuss Paints!

I'm playing m2 fire and m2 dictator right now... soon to be m2 fire and m2 viking.  I also will occasionally play m2 rico and I plan on buying m2 smoky.  My paint as of now is sandstone, what should my next paint be??

I was thinking either atom or waiting to buy inferno...  what do you guys think?

Both paints are quite different from each other. They both offer a Freeze and Firebird protection, but Inferno has it as its major protections while atom has it as just some additional protection which are not so noticeable. The protection from Twins is about the same, so that won't make a difference for your decision. Inferno doesn't protect you from Hammer, while Atom has Hammer protection as its major protection. The difference in price is just 21 000 crystals, which though might be something to keep in mind. Now it's up to you. Do you prefer a decent Hammer protection or would you rather have a decent Firebird and Freeze protection?

Go with the fire and freeze prot, buddy

I bought Sandstone on the 50% sale and MUd it a bit. Great paint... M1 Viking can take several rail hits now. The twins and shaft protection are nice to have. Don't need Forrester or Metallic anymore. Refund anyone?

Still Waiting for a good paint combining real Rico and Rail protection. Clay is too many ranks away.

Hmmm... m3 freeze unlocks right before inferno... but m3 hammer unlocks with it too. For a short range weapon player, what do u think I need protection from more?

Freeze and Firebird are more dangerous than Hammer in my opinion, so I'd probably buy Inferno if I were you.

Not sure what you mean, but the % reduction is based on the damage dealt by the specific turret. For example, my rail deals 94-144 dps, meaning 119dps on average. If it goes against my tundra (36% rail) with hornet (160hp), then damage dealt per shot is about 76dps, and my hornet will have about 84 armour points remaining.

Okay. You're in the ball-field. You are saying paints reduces the amount a weapon will inflict. Not improve the armor as I thought.

My question actually was;  Do paint% adds to armor based on base hull armor plus current MU's of the armor, or just the base armor hull protection?

In other words,    At  which point does a paint add a % , before armor MU's or not.

Your answer- "Paints subtract from the weapon as a % directly" , as you state, negates my POV on how I thought paints work.

I guess I was misunderstanding the wording in the Wiki and how damage is derived and inflicted.

Yes, it reduces the damage dealt. In your words, reduces the amount a weapon will inflict.

I used to think the armor would improve initially but after giving it some thought I realised it would reduce the effect of turrets against the tank

I would like some endgame advise from the Gismos out there on the highest level paints... Africa Lumberjack, Clay, and of course Prodigi.

Which to choose at the highest rank? Prodigi since everyone is playing with Rail by then? Any value in the other paints?

all of these paints are important at higher levels, my personal choice is Zeus because i am playing with vulcan and mammoth and that paint gives me some extra protection on battle field.

New info I found.

Hazel -Rah puts paints as adding protection, not subtracting from weapon damage.

SO I guess my initial question still stands.

Do paints add their % protection before or after MU armor upgrades?

I don't quite understand the question, but if you mean after you MU the health of a hull, the answer is yes.

No! Paint protection has nothing to do with supplies.

Example : u got a paint with provides 15% from fire. Now if any fire attacks u the damage that fire is acting on u is reduced .

Okay here goes,

Say I got a basic  hull  with 200 armor. I buy some MU's that bring it up to 260.

Alright? Now say I got a 10% rail paint. And a rail hits me.

So the question is:    Is my armor protection, (200 X 110%) +60 = 280 ?

                          OR

                                 Is my armor protection, 260 X 110% =   286 ?

I just want you to quote hazel's response that paint adds armour instead of reducing damage. If what you said is true, this mechanics is ridiculous as your Hp will be altered every time you are hit by a different turret. In fact, I highly doubt hazel rah's claim, provided that you are not lying.

Now that you bring it up Nishaht . Let's take this 200 HULL with +60 MU's= 260

If you pop a DA(double Armor) supply does your tank now have, 260 X 200%= 520?

or (200 X200%)+60  = 460?

Going back to my above post , How many armor points would a 200 base hull + 60 in MU's + 10%  rail paint and double armor have if hit by a rail? 572? 506? 500? 480? some other number?

With DA, your Hp is 520 in the above occasion. Your argument about increasing armour points with paints is not valid. End of story.

OK , Hazel Rah replied to another player about use of Forrester paint in XP/BP . The math shown to have been Hazel's was:

This is what Hazel-Rah told me when I asked him similar question.

" Hornet m2 will never be able to use forester.

Wasp m2 139hp + forester 10% = 149hp = Wasp m3 149hp

Hornet m2 138hp + forester 10% = 151hp < Hornet m3 166hp"

===================================

This seems to confirm/infer paint adds to armor not subtract from weapon damage.

Excuse the messed up quote function.

Yes  , I can see where the whole changing of Tank HP's according to if a paint protected or unprotected weapon hits a hull would be a problem. The armor points would be different,  if the game does not run actual damage as a fraction of total armor for every varying weapon hit. I figure it does by default to avoid that issue.

It'll have 520 'health'.

It'll have 572 'health'.

im o paints arent that worth it in the early levels as getting good m1's faster are more important then you can buy a few paints before saving for m2's

Buying the "starter kit XL", gives you a great  array of beginner paints that are useful for a long time for 8900 crystals, Dragon, Storm, Dirty.

Main is Sandstone... Great paint hurt a bit by this rebalance as I don't see so many thunders now. Rail prot is still good and Twins prot is nice but needs to be higher.

I also keep dragon on hand for when I drop into a nest of ricos

With the Rebalance I need a good Fire prot paint.
