Let's Discuss Paints!

I understand that the object of PAINTS is to SELL THEM and their upgrades. But when you have to spend millions of crystals to be competitive, it is obviously causing an attrition rate among higher ranks. You have a great deal of growth in the lower ranks, but those who don't want to buy crystals are just leaving, and I guess that's the idea: to keep the free players to a minimum. But it is really unpleasant for a lot of those players, and bad impressions spread by word-of-mouth will eventually destroy the recruiting potential for new players.

I would love to see a paint with protections against 5 turrets

You have gotten your wish. Pay real money, get the Premium Account paint. 15% protection against all weapons.

Does anyone know if this paint can be upgraded?

Okay, let’s cut to the chase. You don’t want to dig through hundreds of numbers on a chart. You just want to know, “Which paint will give me the best protection me against [some turret]?” Here are the answers, sorted by increasing protection value. I didn't include duplicate values.  You can go to the charts to find out which other protections a particular paint offers.

Smoky:

Flora – 10% (Private; 500 crystals)

Carbon – 20% (Sergeant-Major; 13,000 crystals)

Savanna – 40% (Brigadier; 129,000 crystals)

Needle – 48% (Field-Marshal; 210,000 crystals)

Firebird:

Marine – 10% (Private; 500 crystals)

Storm – 20% (First Sergeant; 9000 crystals)

Loam – 36% (Lt. Colonel; 102,500 crystals)

Zeus – 50% (Generalissimo; 250,000 crystals)

Twins:

Swamp – 10% (Private; 500 crystals)

Roger – 30% (WO 5; 42,500 crystals)

Best Values:

Storm costs 4000 less than Carbon and 6500 less than In Love, but gives 1% more total protection

Desert costs the same as Jaguar and Guerilla, but gives 10% more total protection

Roger costs the same as Fracture and Cedar, but gives 17% more total protection

Spark and Digital cost 3000 less than Sandstone, but give 4% more total protection

^Nice table, but I think people buying 'high rank paints' should seriously consider micro upgrades for the long run, clay and zeus can both go to 50% on all their respective protections

^agreed, but also be aware that at mid to high ranks, the best paint for you might not be one of these... You may need to trade off a bit on one turret protection to get you good coverage on two particularly annoying ones. Sandstone's Rail-Thunder protection at mid level is a good example.

I think Storm gets you decent Fire protection at your budget.

Lots of turrets play on Polygon. Fire is most common, then Twins, then Thunder and Rail. The rest are too rare on that map to worry about.

In poly cp I find the isidas and twins the most annoying, any suggestions around those two that can last me to late m2/early m3 ranks?

For noise ctf I find the fire & ricochet annoying
