Let's Discuss Paints!

However, protection sometimes works?

Yes, yes it sometimes means the difference between an instant kill and a chance to fight back and maybe beat your attacker, escape and kill someone else or find a drug.

Just not that often.

Dont forget railgun-5% can protect your wasp ;)

The key with paints , when dealing with railgun, is using a paint paired with a hull , to survive "shots" at whatever M level. 5% rail on a wasp,  will  make some difference , you will die about 40% of the time rather than 50%.(My math my be alittle off, used M1's) The key there would be finding the  paint that will get you to assuredly survive one shot.

This is why there are certain paints for BP/XP matches. Those are the minimum hull/paint combo that can survive one rail shot.

This goes with all paints and hulls against the  2 heavy damage one shot weapons(rail and shaft) . Find the paint that enables your hull to survive 1,2,3,4, shot damage increments of which weapon you are trying to defend from.  A few paints work against both , you might consider buying one, if it gives your hull of preference the ability to survive another shot than what you have now.

And remember heavy hull s get more protection from paints. Lighter hull basically should use a paint (if required) to beat one shot of rail or shaft.

With Heavy hulls and paints you get to do multiple shot math to figure out what you can survive.  I primarily use Titan and dirty because it is the best cheap combo , than can really shrug off multiple  rail and shaft- hits.

Hope this makes some sense to some.

Is there any multi-protection paint that protects well against Twins at my level?

Swash really. It is a good short range paint.  Desert would serve you better if you fight at Medium range, and That is the key to handle a twins opponent, stay at least 20 meters away. Twins at a longer range and having a twins paints, will greatly help you destroying them or getting out of the LoF. Both Swash and Desert enable you to hide in bushes also, which is a great thing once you realize how to use those masking paints.

So swash if you fight short range, desert if you fight medium/long, and desert really shuts down rico. Which becomes a real bogeyman at around your rank. Twins is good at lower.

Tanki asked me about paints lately in a survey. I got suspicious.

Now I found in the wiki, that the way paints work is going to change,

  • The way paints work is going to change (see spoiler or link)
  • they don't tell us what they plan
  • I ask for that Tanki tells us what they are up to, before we spend crystals on paints in the upcoming sale.

This would not be the first time, they make a sales first and a change in the game short thereafter.

Paints and their protections are going to become separate. Paints will no longer be tied to protective properties and you will be able to choose paints based only on the way it looks on your tank. How exactly it will be done - I don't know.

This is my understanding as well. Driven of course by Premium Account pay users who want their premium protection but hate the Mac and Cheese look of Premium Paint.

Don't buy paints. We are in for a change.

I recently bought the Atlas kit on my alt; I must say, Loam makes all the difference. No more annoying Firebirds (unless ambushed) and I can easily maintain a good D/L with Smoky and Titan.

Maybe it will be something like kits - at certain early ranks paints will unlock sans protection and then at the required rank the protection will unlock and become available for purchase?

Yeah, Loam doesn't look like much, but it's da bomb against Firebird.

I've also got my eye on Rock which gives good protection against Isida and Twins, which are a problem north of General. But I'm not buying.

Separating paints from their protections is a real problem, for everyone - the devs, the owners, and the other players.

For the devs - how to implement? Do all paints become the same price since they effectively all have the same value? I doubt it. My guess is attractive and visually complex paints will be more expensive. Expect a lot of creativity here. Premium Users might also be able to skin their tank with a wrap of their own choosing. On the protection side, do the become available a la carte? Again, I doubt it. If the MU sea change is an example, devs are removing player choice. I expect the paint bundles to remain the same since they have been carefully balanced. There just won't be a visual component. Who knows what they will be named... 'Combo Number Five' or maybe throw in the unlock rank - "Brigadier Protection Pack 2". Do not expect the prices of these to change. After all it's the protection you're paying for, not the looks.

For the owners - how to plan? This is a no brainier if the protection packages remain intact. If they don't we're in for chaos, especially if what we have and have paid for is about to get scrapped. Will there be a refund? I've got my eye on a couple of paints for their protection, not their looks. But what do I do knowing this is all quicksand? One thing is certain, there isn't any future in which the protection I'm looking for will be any more affordable. Get ready for prices to go through the roof... Again think recent MU change

For the other players - how to tell? It's not always easy right now to tell what protections a given enemy is wearing. Aside from the basic single protection paints and some mainstream ones like Loam, Tiger, Emerald, Corrosion, and so on, I couldn't tell you what Joe Tanker's paint is protecting him against. I suspect I am not alone. I further expect this to disappear entirely with no replacement indicator as to what protection a given tank has. After all what's the point? In theory the indicator gives an unfair advantage to your attacker in that they can decide whether they need to pop Double Damage or go find another enemy. This is a lose-lose for the devs since any change will be wildly unpopular. But aside from the visual of paint I just don't see how protections can be visualized. There are already too many floating icons over most tanks.

For any low rankers who play Polygon CP: Storm is a cheap and very useful paint to buy. I bought it and MU-ed it halfway during sale, and the 25% fire protection is excellent. At major, many people buy fire m2. My 25% fire protection reduces the damage of fire m2 from 54.4 to 40.8, which is about the same damage of fire m1. It reduces the damage of fire m1 from 40.2 to 30.2, which is even lower than the damage of fire m0!

10/10 paint, would recommend to any short range players.

I also got storm on this account and upgraded it to 25%.

For the paints changes I am very, very interrested in what they will come up with.

But as they did not tell us before the sale, I therefore expect it again to be a price driver and crystal sucker.

But anywas.. as they usually dont "steal" away what we've got, I got me some strom paint :)

Dont forget railgun-5% can protect your wasp ;)Why you dont want to buy better paint, for example, "with love"?

I never had the spare crystals. I was always saving for something. Now i have sandstone and digital. still no protection against short range weapons, hammer, ricco or vulcan tho.... lol

Emerald has made a big difference for me. It still has the twins protection that my urban paint had, but it also stops me getting killed in one shot by thunder. When thunder isn't drugging it is no longer a threat.

If I didn't get emerald I probably would have got savanna or winter.

Ibris and loam provide a lot of protection, but isida and firebird are so OP that you will likely die anyway >_>

Lol not true haha :D

Ibris and Loam protect me more than any paint else.

At my rank , firebird and isida is popular, these two paints is very useful most of the time.

I am not sure what paint to buy next

Some say it looks ugly while others think differently. I personally like it, but what do you guys think? You can just answer in the poll if you don't wish to type a response  :)

(Btw, this thread is only about the looks of the paint, not its effectiveness in battle)
