Let's Discuss Paints!

agree that top paints help you survive longer, esp on small maps

but

this is valid only when you already have the hulls fully MUed.

like many here, I am  a veteran and on my high mults I have almost all fully upgraded, incl the paints ... but it took me years to do that;

on this account I have M2 viking, M2 shaft, 96% M2 smoky, 66% M2 hammer, etc ... that's why now I can afford to focus my corrosion (soon it will be full) ... but I also have tons of supplies to ease my days ))

yet, if you are a relatively new-comer, after the rebalance, then it might be wiser to invest your time/money to MU your hulls rather than buying many paints

for instance - for 1 mln cry one can get the affordable Taiga and Prodigy + full MUs on hornet (which provides extra 26% armour, apart from other benefits)  and this will allow to fight along for some extra minutes.

bottom line - paints help, but they should not be one's priority, not in the current TO economics

Your are 100% right, so perhaps I gave the wrong impression.

Too many Tankers that are too obsessed with paints, with the outcome if they 're not buying:

a garage full of hardly used paints and turrets/hulls begging for micro-upgrades.

If for example I now had to choose the minimum amount of paints that would make it easier

to get to Generallissimo, I would choose Forester, Tundra, Savanna.

Just those three with some mues.

Than at Gizmo pick the top paint you expect the most of and stick with it.

Might even be Savanna or another good paint you can get from round about Brigadier.

Bottomline: paints are helpful, but don 't get carried away with them.

You will only use/need a few, so owning many paints is just wasting crystals.

I am prone to criticism by nature, but here can only agree !

The above is one really good piece of advice to beginners !

I will share my opinion, reg the paints, one may need to crawl to rank 30, covering a mol decent spectrum of guns:

- forester/metallic = 1 500

- dragon = 3 000

- tundra = 35 500

- savanna = 129 000

- taiga = 210 000

- prodigy = 192 000

there are other options, of course, but for a total of 570k ... this is an affordable set, I assume

Black Paint Rules. B)

If a paint makes sense or not derives from the time it gives you, in comparism to the turret that is most nasty to you.

Example:

I play Wasp-Rail, and Smoky is my biggest nightmare.

Of course a Twins, Vulcan or Rico kills me almost faster, but they also make me driving into walls, houses, tanks.. so I would die anyways. I benefit if I die faster from them.

But Smoky takes 'time' to kill me, and my only chance is a house and play suprise-peek-a-boo. I can only reach the next corner if I increase my survival time.. so Savanna is a georgous paint for Wasp-Rail combos.

Also Thunders and Hammers on DD take me out 1shot. Protection against those help me to fight back.

If I protect myself against a firebird it makes no sense.. it just prolonges the inevitable, without giving me the chance to place a second shot.

I think top low tier paints are:

Storm (on medium to heavy hulls)

Tundra (every hull, so many rails..)

Savanna (every hull, so many rails)

 Cherry (CP games)

Later on I preffer Clay, although Prodigy works good as well.

Generally I would plan the paints from Top-to-down, beginning with your targets paints and planing a way towards them.

Dont be afraid to fight unprotected.. the most harm you will take are the comments of your teammates, that have not yet thought about survival times.

These are answers I am looking for when it comes to paint.

So.... Ignore the ones that could 1-shot me because it would be futile to defend against them anyway and find protection against the one(s) that take several shots to kill me. Otherwise, I should pick a paint that makes my tank look pretty or intimidating or pretty intimidating, right?  :)

Blasphemy! ;)

I have Loam and Sandstone. Granted the protections are lower but Clay gives me what I already have. Rock will protect me from Twins, which I don't have.

And I have to stump for Sandstone and Loam. Great paints but do like I did and buy them on 50% sales.

Clay is a personal favourite, but definitely not the best paint for everyone

(our every situation)

Prodigi is my main paint at the moment and does a good job,

sometimes I do equip Tiger on my alt. account but than Rails become too much of a threat.

Not to mention the Thunders...

Tiger helps against Hammer, but Hammer is so powerful that Tiger on a light hull

isn 't that impressive after all.

Prodigi 's Shaft protection is good, but I rather have Clay with protection against Rico,

because now I often get overwhelmed by the barrage, before I have a

good chance to fight back.

End goal is to make Clay my fully mued main paint.

Most likely the only one I will use for a long time.

In your case you mostly use Viking so you already have a pretty solid protection

from your hull alone.

Viking is not really fast so it makes sense to have more protection against

close- to medium range turrets, because you will often not be able to avoid them.

(a light hull has a better chance to get away from close-range weapons, and if not

than your mostly dead anyway because of the high damage that gets dealt)

So Rock is a very solid choice for you. Most likely it becomes your main paint

because it gives very good protections which you will start to miss when you

haven 't got it equipped.

Like I described the situation where I prefer the maximum protection

against Rail from Prodigi instead of using Tiger.

Good Rock Luck! :)

Thanks. Not sure what my profile says about my paint use, probably that I prefer my well-MUd Loam, but these days I generally wear the Lumberjack I snagged in the Redneck kit. I only go back to Loam when I need the extra Fire protection and can live without the Isida protection.

And I am utterly beside myself. I just realized that I forgot about Lumberjack during the April Fool's MU sale. Most of my equipment is already upgraded to the point where the sale didn't make sense, but I let 95% off MUs on Lumberjack slip by because I wasn't thinking about my paints. :(

Storm paint. Can be MU'd to 30% Firebird protection for about 30K. That is why you still see this paint in M3 battles. May be the best bargain in the game.

What do you think are the top 5 common paints amoung m3s? I think prodigi, africa, emerald, zeus and tiger.

Like I said in my earlier post, I still see a LOT of Storm paints. It might even be the #1 paint overall in the game.

I mainly use rico viking,

Spark: along with Rico protection (so you protect yourself from yourself), it also has Firebird and Twins protection, two of the most commonly used turrets at your level - what with all the Firewalls and Minotaurs running around.

I used Sakura a lot for Massacre CTF. I found Spark to be very useful for Polygon CP and Esplanade CTF. Then later I acquired Loam and use it as a primary paint.

If someone were shooting a video of the battle, I will change to Eternity - version 2 doesn't have the best protection or might not be the correct type of protection for the current battle, but hey, I'll be on film.

This is all using Firebird/Viking only. My secondary turret is Twins. My profile would say otherwise since I have used Railgun 90% of the time from SGT to WO3.

My favourite is marine [1 of the only paints i have  :D ]

Apart from the looks,it helps to deal with those pesky firebirds

Is loam better than spark for poly cp??and what about dm's?

Spark is a visually attractive paint but largely useless once on reach M2 ranks. Then you need Loam.

I don't often use my Tiger paint but yesterday there was this drugging Premium Hammer in a Polygon CP battle. He was in first place and tearing through our team. We were losing our slim lead for a fat battle fund. So I put on my Tiger paint, popped double armor, and fixed his little wagon. That turd couldn't touch me. We managed to keep our lead and thus the winning team battle fund :)
