[Issue 14] Ban Psychology

Often in chat, we see many that are doing the same offense repeatedly. It seems as if they are not learning from the bans, and care more about their objective than their karma. As active members of the community, we notice that those who do get banned have a personal reason behind them, and here’s an explanation of those offenses!

Spam of Battle Link

_____________________________

Offenders of this rule are usually those who:

1. Want people to join the battle to make it more populated

2. Want to join the team that has more people, or usually the winning team

3. Want people to join his own made battle while no one else would

Ways to get the message through without being banned:

1. Notice the number of links before a moderator bans. They would usually be more lenient against 2 links and letting it go, than more.

Flood

_____________________________

This rule is probably one of the most commonly broken ones alongside Spam of Battle Link. Here’s the reasons behind it:

1. Wanting to get attention

2. Lonely

3. Bored

Just be sure to avoid posting identical or similar posts more than twice in your chat window. Remember, your screen size is not always the same as a moderator's. If yours is smaller, you should wait a couple more lines before posting the same thing, to prevent any confusion of why you're banned after.

Scam

_____________________________

These people are usually hacked. The hackers use these accounts to post scam links.

To avoid being mistakenly banned, don’t post any links, whether or not it’s safe. You may be mistaken for one of the many scammers, so the best way to avoid it is not to post any links at all other than Tanki links, and sometimes screenshot ones.

Trading, Borrowing, Sharing, and Asking of Accounts

_____________________________

Reasons this rule would be broken:

1. Offender has a low level account and wishes for a better account

2. Offender needs accounts to post scam links, to advertise a scam site

3. Offender wants more accounts to power level

To avoid being banned, don't ask for accounts. Keep your own account, and if you are a low rank, we were all once there. Work hard and build it instead of adding to its ban log.

Caps

_____________________________

This is rarely seen to be a ban, since we won't normally use all caps for a sentence. But, lower ranks would either not know it's on, or that it's forbidden in the game. They use it to get attention or just by mistake. Just be sure your caps lock is not on by typing one or two letters before putting it in chat.

Trolling

_____________________________

Although not as rare as some, it is not a common ban. Trolling is the act of using certain remarks to an innocent person to provoke certain emotions, such as anger.

Many who claim to be bored, and want to create anger inside of someone to see their reactions would break this rule. Ignore them, don't drop to their level or have an argument. Remember, it's just a game, and blocking these people using /block would remove most of your problems instantly.

Necroposting

_____________________________

This ban is mostly only seen on the forum. It indicates that a player has posted in an old and outdated or resolved thread that hasn't been active for quite a while.

Those that would break this rule have the following intentions:

1. Wanting to let the thread be popular again

2. Did not recognize the date, 'it was an accident' is a popular reason (or excuse)

Avoid this by not posting after you've found a topic using the search button. Usually those that aren't seen in the sections are hidden deep below the piles of topics, and the search button could easily lead you to those outdated ones.

Impersonating a Moderator or Administrator

_____________________________

This last commonly broken rule is one easier to know why people would choose to break this one out of all else. Moderators and administrators have powers that many players would like to have and abuse. Those powers sometimes force players to be afraid of the moderators or administrators leading them to think, if I could tell people I am one of Tanki's staff, you would be respected, and treated as a special person. To avoid breaking this rule, just don't claim to be one of Tanki's staff.

Hopefully, this ban breakdown will be your guide for understanding what bans are and how to avoid them! Remember, there are a lot more advantages to having a good reputation than disadvantages. Don't choose to get banned because you're bored.

I once got banned for flood cuz I accidentally pressed "Enter" and I was trying to move, but I hadn't noticed that the chatbox was opened. So when I figured out what the problem was, I instinctively pressed "Enter" but then I got banned.

What I wrote: wawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwasssssddddddddddaw

or something like that :P

i really don't like the necro-posting bans because tbh, why keep the topics live and still....commentable if they are out-dated? For example, some necro-posting bans are on topics that aren't outdated but just fun topics that didn't have to much popularity at the time. I can understand a topic like "How to resolve druggers" before the smart-cooldowns update but what about topics like "Which topic would you go drugging with?" etc. etc.
