There's always been those words that people mention in or out of battle that confuse you. With this dictionary, I hope that all these tough words will be cleared up and you will get a better picture of the battlefield. For beginners and pros alike, there's always something to learn.

This dictionary not only addresses tough words that are hard to understand, but also goes over the issues of commonly used Russian phrases that are incredibly useful to learn in the battlefield.

Foreword

Before I start my list, I'd like to distinguish a couple of things. Some of these words are obvious for pros and there's no need to read through them. Thus, I'll set them apart by writing the word in green. Others are pointless to know for a lower rank, and thus, I'll put them separate by making them gold. However, the majority of the words in this dictionary will help you all. Even if you have a basic idea of what someone's talking about, it's always the best thing to know exactly and clearly what all of those hard words mean. To sum it up quickly, I made a little key:

THIS COLOUR = Pros Only
THIS COLOUR = Beginners Only
THIS COLOUR = Suitable for All

Here begins the Official Tanki Online English Dictionary [TOED]

Note that this dictionary can still be added to. If there is words you feel are useful and should be added in this dictionary, please send me a Private Message. I will read them, and possibly do a Part 2 to this article.

CAMP

Camping is a style of gameplay in Tanki Online. Generally used with sniper weapons such as Shaft and Railgun, or close-range bombers such as Freeze or Twins, camping is a word used to describe the “non-moving” tank who stays in one position constantly throughout the game. Generally, it refers to a defensive tank. In CTF, the majority of the time, the camper's job is to protect the flag at all costs. If you are a camper, you will rarely leave your base, if ever. Your primary aim is to protect your flag. Camping can also refer to people constantly sitting in one position and shooting, not moving. This can mean that it does link in with not only sitting in your base, but also staying in one position in the whole map constantly, for example, sniping from the top of a Polygon Deathmatch.

CLAN

A Clan is a group of players who join together to play in normal battles as well as clan wars. There are many clans in the English Community who play against each other in tournaments, as well as get to know each other by using chats/forums to socialize. Joining a clan can be found in the "Clans" section of the forum.

The majority of clans are made up of high ranked people, and to join one as an official member, you need to be above the rank of Warrant Officer Three. However, there are a few clans that do accept people at a low rank.

COVERING

Covering is a strategy often used by a member of a team. Its a very effective role, particularly in clan wars, as a coverer clears the base for the flag-attacker to go in and grab it. A coverer is a player “covering” the attackers, or rather backing them up. They are not the all-out attackers, but rather the ones who are shielding them, and helping them clear the defence.

As a coverer, the roles you can fulfill are as follows: killing the defenders, drawing the defenders away from the flag, going in for the flag when a team-mate attracts attention (serving as both a coverer and an attacker), and following your attacker back to the base, acting as a “shield” for the flag. Generally, a coverer should be someone who can inflict a lot of damage on the defenders from whatever the distance, and is best suited for a Smoky, Railgun or Thunder.

DECOY

A decoy is a player who runs in as a player to attract attention from enemies, to clear the route for a flag capture. Decoys are KEY to flag captures in tight games. Someone to turn the camping Freeze around, and let you run in – it's vital for a flag capture.

Decoys need to learn the art of attacking to attract attention, but not too obviously. You need to be able to turn the Shafts and Freezes upon yourself, and be willing to sacrifice yourself, but not too soon. Don't try and run away too soon, you will spoil the attacker on the flag. You need wisdom as to how you act as a decoy, but remember that your key role is to clear the route for your fellow attackers.

DRUG

Drugs are the bonuses you use to improve your performance in a battle. Otherwise known as supplies, they are the objects you receive in your Daily Bonuses. You can equip them in battles by pressing 1,2,3,4 or 5 on your keyboard. Using them will improve your tank in different ways. 1 heals you back to full health, 2 gives you double armour for a period of approximately 40 seconds, 3 gives you double power for a period of approximately 40 seconds, 4 gives you extra speed for a period of approximately 40 seconds, and 5 plants a mine which will do a significant amount of damage if hit by an opponent. You may be confused as to what they call drugs, but to put it simply, First Aids, Double Armours, Double Powers, Nitros and Mines are all drugs.

The reason they are called drugs is that they enhance your ability to perform in a battle. However, they are technically known as supplies.

FLAG / ф

A flag is an object that is in both of the teams' bases in a Capture the Flag battle. The aim is to pick up the flag, and bring it back to your own flag which is in your base. Each team has a flag, which they are meant to defend, whilst attacking the enemy flag.

I assume most of you know what the flag is, however, so I will address what this particular section is for. There are many a time when you see a post in the chat saying ф to your team. This is because Ф is Russian for f, and is often used as an alert from Russians to signify a threat to your flag.

If you do read this, you know that there is a person threatening your flag. However, much more common terms nowadays at the higher ranks in particular is the use of letters such as л or пр. л signifies a warning towards the left side of your flag, and пр warns of attackers from the right side.

Knowing these terms can be the difference between a flag and not a flag for your team. Make sure you are alert and know what your team needs when you see these letters written in the game chat.

GOLD BOX

A Gold Box is a box worth 1000 crystals which falls at random times during a game. A player can be prepared for it falling when an alert comes at the top saying “Gold Box will be dropped soon”. After about a time period of 30 seconds to 1 minute, the gold box will fall. In almost all the maps, the gold box only falls in areas crystal boxes generally fall.

Gold Boxes have a likeliness to fall of 1/7000. That means that each fund, there is a 1/7000 fund chance that the Gold Box will fall. This is why sometimes the gold box falls immediately at 5 fund, whilst other times, you can get to 10,000 fund without having seen a gold box.

Note that if you see a battle called "Gold Box 1000" or "Gold Box Will be Dropped Soon" or "Gold Box Here": it does NOT mean that gold box is more likely to fall.

MEDIUM

Medium (медиум) Game Mode is a mode often seen at high ranks as the name of certain No Supplies Battles found on servers. This is a game mode used for clan wars too.

This is the medium format:

  • Played on 6v6.
  • Consumables/drugs prohibited.
  • "Friendly Fire" off.
  • Permitted Weapons: Railgun (Max. 3 per team), Thunder (Max. 1 per team), Twins (Max. 2 per team and only on light tanks), Firebird (Unlimited and only on light tanks), Ricochet (Unlimited), All other weapons are prohibited.
  • Permitted Tanks: Light (Unlimited), Medium (Max. 3 per team), Dictator (Max. 1 per team but in this case you can only take 1 more medium tank)
  • Examples of acceptable combinations: 3 med. + 3 light, 2 med. + 4 light, 1 med. + 5 light, Dictator + 5 light, 1 med. + 1 Dictator + 4 light, 6 light.
  • Restriction on paints: All paints are permitted but only on light tanks.

To play in a battle named Medium, this is generally the followed rules. However, acceptable combinations are often ignored in public battles. Generally, people use Light and Medium tanks, and the permitted weapons.

MULT

A mult is a player in a battle who does not help their team up to his full capabilities. Multing is against the rules of Tanki Online, and is often used by a team which throw in a player on the enemy team to play under their capabilities, or even explicitly sabotage the opponent team.

Multing goes up to the extremes of stopping your team-mate capture a flag, or using friendly fire to kill all your team-mates; to the trivial matters of camping for crystal boxes and even playing in drug wars without using supplies.

NOOB

A noob is someone who is less experienced in the game. Generally, people call other people noobs because of them playing badly. Other uses of the words is used in calling someone a noob because of their rank. Calling someone a noob is a derogatory remark to their playing style.

Though noob is used universally, in Tanki, it is particularly used as a remark at low ranked people. However, it is also used in circumstances addressing people who play badly.

PARKOUR

Parkour in Tanki Online is the art of getting to an area of a map which uses physical methods of your tank, including driving up other tanks and using your turret as a recoil capability.

Parkour is a fun activity many friends do today. Famous parkour positions include the top of Moon Silence, and there are regular parkour positions which can increase your power in battles including shooting yourself onto walls in maps such as Sandbox, Tribute and Kungur.

I don't know Russian.

Lol hogree, maybe you should have elaborated a bit more on your post - from some's perspective it looks like you don't know the meaning of the Russian above because you don't know the language.

If that makes sense.

 Actually the odds are 1/700.

Very useful, especially the tip about the flag. Previously I had tried translating that character, but it hadn't worked so well. Anyway, now I'll have a quicker heads up about our flag being taken.

Lol, I knew everything already. Still nice for the newbies.

I start getting annoyed on English people who are trying to be "Russian" with their small knowledge of Russian words.

Sometimes there a noobs who are flooding the chat with "Hy6"...

Да вы все здесь не можете говорить нормально. У вас не Русский язык, а какая та фальшивая коллекция букв)

Вы только можете говорить "нуб")

Please don't use Google translate. Seriously: you'll get some messed up text.

Notch, since update 123, the odds have been 1/7000, have they not?

The chances should be the same, they only 10x-ed the value.

And if it was 1/7000 you wouldn't get a gold in years.  -_-

With an English keyboard and code pages ... there is very little that I understand, much less can communicate.

This hampers team-game comunication.

Any suggestions in this regard ... like is there a way to "decode/encode" between characters sets at all ?
