How to Prepare for Pro Combat

When you want to be as prepared as possible for a big clan or team war, or even a simple match with some of your friends, there are a few things you can do to hone your skills. This article will hopefully help you know how to prepare yourself and give you a few pointers before actually going into combat.

1. Warm up on your accuracy

When using weapons like Rail, Smoky, Thunder, or Shaft you will most likely want a warm up. Here is an image of a quick exercise that can help you when you get into actual engagement.

Standing still however isn't the best way to warm up your accuracy, so try moving around and hitting specific objects. This really helps get a feel for your tank, especially if you have just upgraded an item or if you haven't played for a few days. When you have recently upgraded your turret it is important to get used to the new turn rate, so practice turning your turret to hit something behind you a few times. Hitting an object that does not move when you are moving is hard enough, but hitting an object that is moving when you're moving as well is even harder. However you have to have another tankman to practice that. I recommend dueling with an experienced player, since that provides invaluable experience, especially if the experienced player gives tips and suggestions.

2. Explore the area of battle

This is a great way to get a feel of the map. Many times in clan wars you will be playing in large maps that most tankmen don't see in the list of battles. Create a match like that and drive around.

If it is CTF, look at the position that you are planning on playing and drive around to see how you can best play that position - whether it be mid-fielder, defender or attacker. For example if you were going to be the attacker you would look for the least conspicuous attack and escape routes, and perhaps even scan the enemy side of the map for possible sniping positions that the enemy could use.

3. Test yourself

Though most people do not consider this part of preparation very much, it can be very important. Many times warm ups and other such activities cannot prepare you for combat as much as actual combat. Usually there are a few NS battles floating around - pick one and play for 15-20 minutes. By the way, I recommend getting a NS pass if you are preparing for pro combat. Now there are a few questions to ask once that time has been completed. Number one - what do I need to work on most? If you lost, how can you improve so that you will win? Sometimes you will find that you have several problems, but don't be discouraged. Work on one problem at a time.

4. Fix any problems you find

Fixing the kinks in your armor can be hard, but it is especially hard if you allow the kink to become a habit, which is something far more serious than minor mistakes. If you find that you have a habit, you need to destroy it. Practice doing whatever it is without mistake. It can be time consuming, but it is better than getting beaten often.

Sometimes however, the problems are hard to find. For example, I used to have a hard time hitting an enemy tank while moving. So be on your guard. Some things, though small, can be devastating in the long run.

5. Watch the pros

This is an excellent way to prepare for pro combat. There are many old videos and such items around the forum, and a few old cybersport recordings that can be of great help when it comes to battling pros. As many seasoned strategists know - getting a feel for what the enemy will do in combat can be invaluable.

If you play for a clan and happen to be fighting a more famous one, you might even be able to see that very clan in action. However, though watching them can be good - imitating them is something much different. Keep up working and testing yourself, and you may become one of the better players in Tanki Online.

Conclusion

I hope that this article has helped you know some of the basics when it comes to preparing for pro combat. If you have any questions, feel free to ask them. Good luck, and see you in the battle!
