[Issue 15] Lhamster's Garage Analysis

So after Raphael2's analysis last issue, it's my turn now.

So before I get into the meat of the article about my choices after the rebalance, I'll give you a quick run through of my choices before the rebalance. The only things worth mentioning are the tier two ones. My first M3 combo was Thunder and Viking, with Spark paint when I was WO5. I then got M3 Freeze and Python when I was 2nd and 1st Lieutenant respectively. Lead paint followed and Hornet M3 at Major. I had M2 Rico and was considering my next thing to buy when along came the rebalance. My favourite combo was Freeze and Viking, so a medium tank with a close range weapon, although I didn't mind using Thunder.

So, this pesky rebalance thing had arrived, and I had to make my choices all over again, and this time I had more choice! So, lets see what I chose and if I now feel they were good decisions.

Rebalance (17/12/2012)

So I got around 140k (old economics) refunded, but I assumed there would be a New Year sale, so I waited 2 weeks, only playing Tanki once with M0 Smoky and Wasp.

New Year Sale

At this point I was a Major, and so only M2s were available to me, and I didn't like that, so I spent 100k on xp, buying 1 million xp to get myself the Generalissimo so I could get the M3s I wanted. This left me with around 40k to buy hulls and weapons. I had at this point decided to get one medium hull and one heavy hull and not bother with those weak light hulls. I had also decided it would be good to get one close range, one medium range and one long range weapon, so I had an option for all situations. So, I bought Dictator to M3, as it was better than Viking, and I felt Hunter was too weak, and Smoky to M3, as the critical hit seemed quite good. As I only had 40k, I could then only get 2 more things M2, so I got Mammoth to M2, as it was cheaper than Titan, and in a drug war health is everything, and so the extra 44 health would be invaluable, and also Isida to M2, as my close range weapon, as I figured that as its damage had been rebalanced to the same level as Freeze, and the fact that it had dual purpose, and that it healed me while I was attacking it would be better than either Freeze or Firebird. At this point I didn't have many crystals left, and so I couldn't afford a paint. So I was stuck playing with Dictator, Smoky and Microchip for a few months.

Some time in February

I can't remember the exact date, but I decided to M3 my Isida. I didn't wait for a Sale as M3 Isida is pretty cheap in the scale of M3s. I figured that it would be better to have two M3 weapons than two M3 tanks. Looking back now, Smoky/Mammoth would have been a pretty good combo though.

Some time in April

I now decided to complete what I thought would be my garage, and I was thinking there wouldn't be a sale for a while, and so I bought Twins to M3 and Mammoth M3. I was still using Microchip at the point, and even though I had no protection, I was now able to do well in drug wars, and look epic at the same time.

1 week before the Victory in Europe Day Sale.

I was playing in the team tournament final, where drugs were allowed, so Mammoths were the order of the day, but I had no paint, so I had to get a paint, and it was decided that Rock was the best one to get, so I bought it for 50k more than I would have if I could have waited a week. Slightly frustrating, but it didn't matter too much. *cough*RichNoob*cough*.

Victory in Europe Day Sale (08/05/2013)

Despite buying Rock the week before the sale, I still had enough crystals to buy M3 Freeze and M2 Hunter. As you can see, I had started to deviate from my original plan buy other things. I had at this point began to miss my conventional close range weapon, and the shape of Dictator was annoying me, so I got my old favourite, the Freeze, and started to get my new medium tank, Hunter. It was also at this point where I began to think that maybe I didn't make the best decision back at the New Year Sale.

Tanki's Birthday Sale (04/06/2013 – 11/06/2013)

The period between these 2 sales was quite frustrating, only having an M2 Hunter, and Dictator not being good with any of my weapons. I had also grown tired of Smoky by this point, and was considering going Close/Medium range full time. So, at this sale I finally got my M3 Hunter, and I started using it with Smoky, and found a new love for it, somehow with this hull, it's epic fun. I had a few crystals left, and so was thinking about the future, so I also got M2 Firebird, and M1 Railgun. At this point I had completely abandoned the idea of having one of each type of weapon and was just getting all the ones I might need. I had also decided I'd like a light hull, but was undecided between Wasp or Hornet, and I had decided that getting the weapons M3 first was more important, so I didn't do anything about it at this sale. I also got Prodigi at this sale, I couldn't afford Picasso, and so this was the next choice with a similar set of protections. However, I'd now probably say this is a better paint to have, and it was a good thing I got it at this point instead.

50% Paint Sale (28/06/2013)

Having spent all my crystals a few weeks before hand, I didn't have that many, but I wasn't going to miss a 50% sale, so I bought Savanna as I couldn't afford anything more expensive. Savanna was still in my list of the paints I wanted, I wasn't going to buy a paint just for the sake of it.

50% Hornet and Viking Sale (11/07/2013)

So I figured that I might as well get Hornet seeing as 50% sales are pretty rare, so got it to M3. I started using it quite a bit, mainly with Freeze, and find it to be a great combo. I probably use it more than Hunter now, as I prefer close range weapons to longer range ones like Smoky. I still use Twins/Mammoth in drug wars though.

Voting for Discounts on Hulls (26/07/2013)

I had at this point decided to just get both Hornet and Wasp, so for Wasp to get a 50% discount was great. This completed the list of hulls that I wanted, and it was nice to be able to concentrate on saving for weapons.

Sometime in the first week of August

I bought M0 Ricochet to parkour with. Not much to say about that.

Voting for Discounts on Weapons (08/08/2013)

I was glad to see Railgun getting a lot of votes as I had it M1, and wanted to get it M3. For it to get a 65% discount was brilliant, so I got M2 and M3. I decided not to get Firebird or Thunder, the other two weapons I wanted M3 yet, as I hoped there would be sales with bigger discounts than they had on them in the near future. M3 Railgun also means I can finally use my Dictator and it's not awful!

50% Paint Sale (16/08/2013)

The timing of this sale was perfect, I was thinking I'd have to get some of the paints I wanted at a 25% sale at some point, and then some at a later sale, but this sale meant I could get the other 5 paints I wanted all at once, and still have some crystals leftover. So I bought Zeus, Picasso, Emerald, Inferno and Irbis. So now I am covered for all situations!

Fiery Discounts (23/08/2013)

So it was a good thing I waited to buy Firebird! I got M3 Firebird at this sale, and I think I will be using it a lot from now on!

The Future

I had to rewrite this bit as more and more sales kept popping up (I wrote this article at the start of August). So, what's left for me to get? The next thing will be Thunder, and then I will have everything I want. I will most likely get Shaft, Viking and Rico M3 to have a bit of fun with, and that only leaves Titan, which I suppose I will feel compelled to get to so I have everything M3. After this point I there won't be anything else for me to get, so I will wait for the Micro Upgrades and maybe get a few, mainly on the things I use for drug wars, and the new turrets and hulls which will come out sometime in the future.

So that's what I bought and when, but do I think I made the right decisions? Honestly, no. I feel I made the wrong decisions right after the rebalance and instead, should have got Freeze and Railgun first, and Hunter instead of Dictator. I do think my decision to buy Mammoth then was the right one and I'd do it again if I could go back that point. I would have then got Twins and Hornet, and then consider just getting everything else. I missed a few sales early on, but at that point I was thinking that I would only have a few weapons and hulls, not all of them. In the past few months I have only bought at sales, which when buying a lot of things, can actually make quite a big difference.

So that's a garage analysis from a Generalissimo's perspective with M3 equipment , I hope that even if you are a lower rank, this will help you think ahead with what you are buying, and you can see what things will be like when you reach these top ranks.
