Sometimes i see moderators saying topic closed. But instead they just lock it. Why? Can they delete it or not?

They only remove scam topics, not very pointless, they just close them, if they would lock the scam topics, then the link would be still visible unless they edited the post, if they removed all the question, the sections would be empty.

 

Anyway, don't discuss, it's against the rules.

They can remove and close. This is against rules. If want to create a topic make sure it doesn't break the rules next time.

We can do both. However we delete only scam/floody/dupe ones. Others get locked (closed).

As for why we say 'closed' - we have to, firstly, with it, we give reason for close, which is important, secondly, that way you can know who closed it.

Yeah, we sometimes do that - lock the topic and edit scammer's post. And when he gets banned we come back to his post and write there the ban.
