What UV mapping method did you use?

 Made an image material for the camo.  Composing view Editmode mesh -> uv unwrap -> cube projection for the hulls, cylinder projection for turret and guns.  Then opened the camouflage I wanted, and moved the uv around until I was satisfied.  Much like the quick tutorial you found.

Finished my WWI plane/ Wasp Smoky hybrid. Made only using 3 external textures.
 

It took me 6 days to finish it and it has tons and TONS of layers in the *.psd file.
