US Government Shutdown

 

On October 1st, after a failure of agreement between the two houses of congress on a new budget, the American government entered a partial shutdown, in which conveyed by the Republicans that it would happen if Obama had insisted on passing his healthcare reform, also known as Obamacare. 

 

As a result to the shutdown of the government, more than 700,000 workers now face an unpaid leave which was caused by just a differentiating perspective on Obamacare. It is estimated that the US dollar will go down in value as well as decrease the US GDP by about 0.9% if this shutdown were to continue for the time period of three weeks. Many institutions and places within the United States are affected due to this shutdown. Institutions such as the National Zoo, and 19 museums and galleries will stop operating, as well National Parks such as the Statue of Liberty on the East Coast, to Alcatraz in San Francisco, all managed by the U.S. National Park Service. 

 

In addition, four hundred thousand staff are on leave from the Department of Defense, and about another hundred thousand more on leave from the Departments of Energy, Commerce, and Transportation. The Department of Health and Human Services is expected to lose more than half their staff temporarily during this lockout. Tourism in the States will drop as the attractions are being closed off by the government.  

 

Obamacare is also known as the Affordable Care Act. It regulates the health insurance industry and increases affordability, availability and also quality of the services provided. This is beneficial for lower to average income families who cannot afford health care. On the other hand, the higher income families will end up paying increased taxes to support this Affordable Care Act, which creates a conflict between the two groups. The Republicans usually support the higher end families while the Democrats usually support the lower income families. 

 

IPhone 5S and 5C Released!

 

Earlier in September, Apple released two new iPhone models, the 5S, a modified version of the iPhone 5, and the 5C.

 

Over the past weekend, a record of 5 million iPhones were sold, showing the great popularity of the new iPhones and Apple as a worldwide brand.

 

The iPhone 5S features the newest in technology for unlocking an iPhone with just a fingerprint by placing your finger on the home button. The new M7 co-processor and the A7 Chip, named the fastest 64-bit chip in the world, is featured in this new iPhone to increase performance and graphics for gaming. It includes LTE for the fastest networks in the world, and HD front and back cameras for beautiful pictures and sharing. This iPhone comes out in a new color, Gold, which is deemed more popular than the other two.  

 

The iPhone 5C is the newest in the Apple production line, which is defined as the 'cheaper' and more 'affordable' iPhone. It includes the A6 Chip, which is slower than the 5S and doesn't have the metal plating on the sides, in which this is made of plastic, but features LTE, iCloud, and many other features similar to the 5S. Instead of only have Grey, White, and Gold, the 5C comes in vibrant and bright colors that makes the smooth outer shell easy to hold and see. 

 

As well as the releases of the two new iPhones, iOS7, the official Apple operating system, was also released for upgrades to an older iPhone version. The upgrade in operating systems redefines the icons, applications, and menus giving a more user friendly and visually appealing look for everyday use. 

 

Grand Theft Auto V Out!

 

The highly anticipated GTA V came out on the 17th of September, to both Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 consoles. It is set in San Andreas, GTA's fictional state based on Southern California.

 

In a single day, GTA V grossed over 500 Million Euros. 

 

On the day of release, a 23 year old who had just purchased the video game returns home from an Asda store in Colindale, north London, when three youths aged 14,15, and 17 attacked the man by stabbing and hitting him with a brick. His mobile phone and his copy of Grand Theft Auto V were both stolen at the scene. The man is in critical condition, but survives the attack. The three youth are faced with charges for robbery and grievous bodily harm with intent. 

 

Plastic Found on a Moon: Name of a large hull? 

 

Propylene, a chemical in which is used to manufacture plastic household containers, was discovered recently on Titan, one of Saturn's moons by NASA's Cassini Spacecraft.

 

This was the first detection of the plastic ingredient on any planet or space object, other than Earth.

 

The small traces of Propylene was found in it's lower atmosphere by NASA spacecraft's composite infrared spectrometer, which measures heat radiation. 

 

PolyPropylene is what you would normally find in plastic containers labelled recyclable symbol 5 at the bottom, as well as used to make car bumpers, and other items that we use in our everyday life.
