Railgun (Guide)

Hello everyone and this is @VectorSierra and this is my guide for Railgun.Unlock at Gefreiter, the Railgun has seen multiples outings on different games. It was once called the "Fear Machine" and it's the most feared weapon on the battlefield back then.In game, damage is absolutely high. You'll kill with just 2 shots on a light and medium hull but 3 to 4 shots on a heavy hull.Railgun retains it's lethality out to quite a distance too.But the major downside of this weapon is it's Rate of Fire or "ROF" and reload speed. And as expected with a high damage weapon, penetration ability is high.Even at a longest of ranges, you'll never need more then 2 shots to kill a light and medium hull. You'll never be left wanting for power.Knock back is high, with the weapon rapidly kicking backwards everytime you fire.

A lot of players said that this weapon is very hard use/master,and i totally agree with that. With it's high damage, high knock back and slow-moderate reload,it's certainly a type of weapon will take you a few days to weeks to master.

Stats:

2I5Pqmz.png

Facts:

Compared to shaft,you'll notice....

-Railgun doesn't have a scope mode.

-Less accurate then shaft

-Slower reload than shaft

-Slower fire-rate then shaft

Compared to other weapons,you'll notice....

-When using DP (Double Power) It can kill most hulls in just one shot than any other weapon (Except titan and mammoth on any modification).Same goes to shaft but it takes time for shaft to fully charge it's shot.It can also kill 3 or more enemies at once but they have to be very weak in order for this to happen.

-Railgun has an ability.A Piercing ability that can do damage to multiple enemies but does less damage on the second enemy. (Thanks to @ExtremeKiller26 )

-Without double power, from M0 to M3,It can mostly kills in just two shots. If the enemy have a railgun protection paint on.It will most likely to take a few more shots to finish him off.

-Railgun maintains it's high damage out to quite a distance.

General tips:

-Able to kill multiple enemies in just one shot. But there's a downside,it does high damage to the first enemy but less damage to the second enemy (Lower then smoky if the shot hit the second enemy). So it's best to target just a single enemy. If had Double Power on,yes it does moderate damage to the second enemy so you can get a double kill out of that.

-Quite vulnerable against short-range weapon (Everytime a sneaky short-range user sneaks up to you,95% chance that they will kill you everytime when they sneak up on you) So it's best for you to check your surroundings everytime you think that there's an enemy lurking in the shadows...but do not engage! You will get killed yourself! Warn you team mates and call for back up!

-Railgun has a one second delay to fire their shot so it's best for you to shoot first then pop up to hit your target.

-Always take cover but keep moving when railgun's reloading.

-Railgun is very vulnerable out in the open. You WILL get destroyed by multiple enemies if you not caution enough! Since railgun has a 1 second delay, here's a tip if your battling ONLY one enemy....(Below)

Each modification has a different reload time so you may need to practice a bit to get the hang of it.

If your out in the open with only ONE enemy and he shot you first, here's what you need to do:

-Watch your enemies movement so you can predict when he's gonna strike!

-If he shot you first:

If an M0 railgun battle: 3-4 seconds

If an M1 railgun battle: 2-3.5 seconds

If an M2 railgun battle: 2-3 seconds

If an M3 railgun battle: 2-2.5 seconds

Wait for the seconds above then shoot on their sides!

If you time it right, you will get the kill.Though this happens rarely but if it does happen, try it out. You'll won't regret it.

-Railgun's key strength is hiding behind cover. This goes well with the "Hit n' Hide" tactic or the "Hit n' Run" tactic. If your out in the open, chances are your gonna get killed in a matter of seconds.

-With map knowledge,a stealth aspect come's into play here. You can traverse around the map more stealthy and take hidden paths that your enemies may not know (This only works for medium to big maps and not out in the open like monte carlo and stadium).Game mode recommend: TDM,CTF and CP.

-If your more an aggressive player, this is NOT the weapon for you.Railgun is for the one's that have patience.Otherwise choose another weapon like thunder.

-Defensive players can use this weapon, but just for defending purposes.

There ARE players that is semi-aggressive auto defensive players (Such as me :P) Which means they always stay at their flag or base but at the same time attacking.Sometime's they also use stealth if needed.

-Use your weapons recoil to help a team mates back on their tracks. If you have helped him/her,you will gain your team mates trust.Especially an isida.

-In order to shoot a target right above you,you must get in a certain range and height.Move forward when firing. If you have dictator equipped, you don't need to do this action because dictator is tall enough to shoot enemies right above you (But you still have to get in a certain range for this action to work).

This is the most important one that you must use! Always use Camera angles! (Or Q and E) This can help you locate your enemy behind cover! Certainly the most important thing that a railgun users should already know how to use this by now.

Hulls:

The hulls i recommend are mostly common but you'll get the idea.

First up! Hornet.

150px-Hull_hornet_m3.png

With railgun's high knock back and slower reload, this hull is always the choice for players. It's stable enough to handle railgun's knock back and slightly stronger then wasp. But wasp win's over hornet at M2-M3 stages so it most likely more reliable then hornet but trust me,after the new physics update. This hull will come to your aid on the battlefield.

The other alternative choice here is Hunter.

150px-Hull_hunter_m3.png

Hunter is pretty much between hornet and wasp combined to made this hull. With it's decent speed, stability and size.It can pretty much handle multiples enemies but don't be too confident about it.It's very useful in No-supplies battle so if your sick of people keeps using supplies 24/7 than get this hull and play in NSB!

Second up! Viking.

150px-Hull_vicing_m3.png

Moderate speed, good stability, and decent size. This hull works best on drug wars but as i said, slow reload and being out in the open make's it vulnerable. But a great support hull overall. This hull is for any role. With it health and decent speed,it can take multiple enemies then hunter. This hull mostly fits for aggressive players and support players so that's why it's useful in drug wars.

Third and last! Dictator!

150px-Hull_dictator_m3.png

Most of you will disagree on me because this hull is ugly (Which it is) and hard to handle but it's the most suited hull for railgun in my opinion.Obviously faster viking (At M3) but slower then hornet and wasp, lower stability then viking because of it's huge volume makes it easy for your enemies to knock off your aim.But as i said, railgun's key strength is the "Hit n' Hide" tactic or the "Hit n' Run" tactic. You can compare this hull to viking any day, since the devs said it's a heavy hull.I disagree with that,it is but to me it's more of a rare type of hull.A medium-heavy hybrid hull. Why you may ask? Here's the reason. It has the speed of a medium hull, the health of a medium hull, the stability of a medium hull and the height of a heavy hull (Slightly higher then mammoth).Although i'm only comparing dictator to viking,it's still a hybrid none the less. With a combination of medium and heavy hull, this is deadly for any users that have the courage to use this hull on the battlefield.

Since most of us all already know this: the higher the object, the less stable it will be thus the lower the object the more stable it will be.So dictator has slightly more volume than mass.

Other hulls such as titan and mammoth also works well with railgun but for defensive roles only.

How to handle against other weapons!

Smoky

150px-Turret_smoky_m3.png

Battling smoky is hard, because of railgun's slower reload.Smoky could put multiple shots on you while your reloading. And with random critical hits,100% chance of the time you encounter a smoky will kill you.If you don't have a smoky protection paint than here are my tactics.

If you see an incoming smoky, get as far away from them as possible (Because the further away from smoky, the harder for the smoky to aim at you. When you are far away enough,go to a nearby place that has cover, use the "Hit n' Run" tactic. If the smoky is right in front of you, quickly run into cover! Use nitro if you have to than use the "Hit n' Run" tactic. If the enemy has a light hull equipped, you can try to shoot him but this won't benefit you a lot because of smoky's impressive fire-rate.

Thunder

150px-Turret_thunder_m3.png

In most cases, thunder usually win's over railgun lots of times.Be careful, thunder could take you out by surprise! If your close enough to him,RAM him! Yes this may risk your life but when the opportunity come's,don't be afraid to take risk. The other way to take him out is fairly simple, take the shot when you have the chance than try to change locations while doing so.This will confuse your enemies and will start thinking where's your current location,in that time take him out by surprise!

Shaft

150px-Turret_shaft_m3_2.png

Railgun's opposite foe....but it easy to take him out.But most shaft user's try to hide themselves behind bushes or hide in a clever location so always check your surrounding before moving forward. If you see multiple enemies coming at you,i suggest taking out shaft first.Even though it's kind of weak,it still does a lot of damage so your priority is always the shaft but you can try to avoid him by just sneaking past him but it will be hard for you to avoid once they saw you.The only down side of shaft is while in scope mode,it loses much of it's peripheral vision so it's easy to sneak past him if he's not looking at you. While railgun has a 1 second delay till firing,a smart shaft user will shoot you on the side if your in his lines if sight.Wait till he's not looking, than strike while you can.

Twins and Ricochet

150px-Turret_twins_m3.png150px-Turret_ricochet_m3.png

Twins is a monster on the battlefield, taking everyone out in it's path. But has a limited range. Most twins user's tend to use it on mammoth which is a great advantage for you if you have a fast hull. The way to defeat twins is to stay out of it's effective range, twins is a high damage, fast firing double barrel weapon at close-medium range that you wouldn't want to face with.Always stay behind cover and move to different locations so your enemy will keep guessing why your gonna strike next! For ricochet,it almost the same as twins but it plasma balls can bounce of walls and damage you even when your not facing him/her.If you encounter it,just dodge it's plasma balls but be warned,it still can damage you even you dodge them so be careful!

Freeze,Firebird and isida.

150px-Turret_freeze_m3.png150px-Turret_firebird_m3_2.png150px-Turret_isida_m3.png

As said above,it's very vulreneble at close range.Once got caught,it's hard to escape especially on small maps.So best chance for you to kill a short range foe is very minimal. But on bigger maps though, they could past around you without you even knowing that he/she just went past you.So your bast chance is too always look at your surroundings. If you saw a close range foe that is hiding, move back then alert your team mates.Or if he/she is coming right at you, shoot on their side. This will slow them down for just a few seconds but enough time for your second shot to fire. Most foes tend to use wasp and nitro, the only way possible to defeat them is to head straight at a jumping point than shoot when he/she is in the air. This will flip them over if you time it right or possibly flip themselves over while in mid-air. (This action needs timing and accuracy skills)

Paint's

-----------

Railgun protection paint's:

0mSrTQ2.png From Gefreiter big_3.pngto Warrant Officer 4 big_14.png

Forester:10% Railgun = One of the best camouflage paints out there. But 10% isn't that much but it can save your life most of the time.It only works on some hulls though.

fWByjaz.png From Warrant Officer 4big_14.pngto Captain big_19.png

Tundra:

30% Railgun,10% smoky = 30% Railgun is a huge difference while 10% smoky isn't that much....Only works on some certain hulls.

xfXfHZd.png From Captain big_19.pngto Marshal big_27.png

Digital:

35% Railgun,13% smoky and 10% shaft = I would not recommend this paint because it's almost the same as tundra.Just + 5% to railgun protection and the shaft protection which is quite useless to be honest.

TBWU4nU.png From Marshal big_27.pngto Generalissimo big_30.png

Prodigi:

5% Firebird,22% Thunder,46% Railgun and 15% Shaft = I'm not sure about this paint....but if your having trouble against railgunner's and thunder's then this is the paint for you.

Railgun is game modes:

DeathMatch (DM):

A very popular gamemode.A basic game mode that everyone have to battle each other until someone reaches the score limit or finishing the time limit. In this game mode,it's best for you to go in a camping spot (Try to reach a clever camping spot that most enemies will past by you),otherwise you will get destroyed by many enemies all around you.The only why to get kills is to kill steal. With it's high damage,it's is the best weapon to kill steal. If there's another Railgun, try to team up with him so you won't feel vulnerable as long as there someone with you.

Effectiveness on DM: 7/10

Team Deathmatch (TDM)

In this game mode, much like DM but you have a team to help you so don't worry about enemies all around you.Your priority is to damage an un-damaged enemy in order for you get a high score, while kill stealing is not nice in team based game modes, always try to help a team mate if he/she is in trouble (And don't just sit there and watch your team mates suffer -.-)

Effectiveness on TDM: 8/10

Capture the flag (CTF):

Perfect game mode for skilled players. In this game mode, since railgun does a huge amount of damage,it is your priority to use that high damage on an enemy that may effect your team score.Team work come's in play too.If your team works together, your team will be like a fortress!

Effectiveness on CTF: 9/10

Control Points (CP):

Not the most popular game mode in the game.Basically this game mode is about holding points as long as possible and recapturing enemy points.Team work is a MUST in this game mode.Don't be a lone wolf and stay with your team mates.Otherwise you will be overwhelm by enemies.

Effectiveness on CP: 6/10

Always be patient. If you have enough time, use that time to take an accurate shot on your opponents.Remember, every shot counts so don't waste them. Most team mates will count on you to do your job so don't disappoint them.

Overall:

The Railgun is a powerful weapon that can prove tough to handle, but otherwise offers deadly per-shot damage and an uncompromised ability to pierce cover. But with it's slow reload,it's very vulnerable for quite some time and most weapons will out class you at any range and most players will try to fool you by popping in and out.The best way for you to take him out is to watch his in and out pattern, then strike! Such power can take an unaware enemy by surprise, and will erode enemy defensive positions while minimising any risk of engagement. It is it's damage which proves to be the railgun's key asset, with it's consistent 2-shot kill out to any range beating most at longer ranges. Not much damage is lost while shooting through multiple enemies-and sometimes you might find yourself surprised with an unexpected kills upon hapless enemies behind your intended target. However, you pay for this awesome damage with some serious downsides: a slower rate of fire moderates your performance in closer quarters, while the heavy knock back demands good accuracy control to remain effective out at a longer distance. This means the railgun proves most effective within the relatively narrow middle range band-outside the reach of short range weapons but at a distance that your accuracy isn't to hard to handle.Still, the railgun copes relatively well out of it's element,as the player with good accuracy control can put the higher damage to task at almost any range. While you might not be able to compete against short-range foes up close,a slightly more cautious play style will limit this weakness. No doubt the railgun....will leave a lasting impression.

A recent battle that took place, that's me using railgun and hornet. And the battle was short.

ElKc0FY.png

This is just an example picture.Obviously you can get better than mine but with good practice. You can get a good D/L  ^_^

a think i find a way how to defeat a tank with twins,if you attack him from behind or from a high ramp you can shoot him and then run and all the time to sneak and do it until you destroy him

But twins can pretty much stand still and shoot at you.In my experience,my team help me killed a twins. That's all i know about how to kill twins...

you can use nitro if you want to run fast when you shoot him

Dictator is lighter than Hunter

I was comparing it to viking, not hunter.Since it's almost the same as viking, and dictator isn't anywhere near hunter stats.

My guess is that Dictator has more volume than mass, so it's easier to flip whereas Hunter has more mass in comparison to volume, so it's much more ''stubborn'' in a way.

I was just commenting on DYKT's statement, it had nothing to do with your Guide since I haven't even read it.

Well I dunno about "relativity", because I never used Hunter. It's just a statistical fact that Hunter has more mass than Dictator.
