Deadly Anticipation

Anticipation is a great skill to build, practice, and use while battling, as it can help you eliminate your enemy THAT much faster. (For the time of reading this sentence, you could have just gotten 2 kills without supplies)

Defining Anticipation

- In the context of Tanki, predicting your enemy's moves so that you can act before they do, allowing you to succeed in smaller duels or mini duels in larger battles.

Another way to look at it is, for example, take the musical definition of anticipation (cause I love music), it is a non chord note that is part of the next chord. Therefore, you would know what the next chord would sound like, or predict it, by just hearing part of the chord anticipated.

It is so that you know what your enemy is going to do before they do it so you can successfully take them out without acquiring much damage in the process.

There are many great ways to anticipate moves in Tanki, here's a great list of actions one would do normally, and ways to counter them:

1) Enemy moves back in a close range duel, where one of you have a close range gun.

Probable technique they are using: Mining so you would step on the mine

How to counter: Instead of moving towards him, move back, and find another way to approach him. If not, then just wait till he backs out so you can be sure if there is or is not a mine.

2) Enemy slightly moves forward in a slope situation.

Probable technique they are using: Trying to get you to shoot, so when you have to reload, they will be able to attack without having anyone to stop them

How to counter: Make sure you see most of their tank first before actually firing your weapon if it has a slow reload. This way, it will ensure that you won't be killed during reload and maximize your kills to death ratio.

3) Loads of tanks piling up on the side ramp of Silence/other slopes in maps

Probable technique they are using: Attacking in numbers, so they can bombard defence and take it out effectively.

How to counter: Outsmart them. If they're going to pile up on one side, attack from the other and grab their flag. If their base is still heavily protected, go behind them and use a Freeze, Firebird, or Thunder to kill all of them without them noticing. This way, you will be defending your base and getting loads of experience at the same time.

4) A shaft is scoping and is ready to unleash a shot, at full power and is defending the flag

Probable technique they are using: Shafting

How to counter: Fake it, or get someone else to take the shot, and while it reloads, then take your shot and aim at their side. This way, it will either mess up their aim or give damage while he is reloading.

5) 3 enemies are coming at you with flag in an enemy base

Probable technique they are using: Attacking from all directions and in numbers, to protect flag

How to counter: Try to get out in a way that you can kill less tanks to clear. That is usually easiest, and when you have flag, the main purpose is just to capture it. If there's a Mammoth on one side and a Hornet on another, choose to target the Hornet. Always target the smaller or easier to kill tank so you can make a quicker getaway. If they do get to you, try to stall for backup. Use whatever you can to keep yourself alive, including techniques like shooting walls instead of direct shooting, using supplies, or just taking cover behind a wall. When a backup gets the flag, then just self destruct so you can help the backup person with full health when he gets closer to the base.

6) A Freeze is seen when you have a flag, and he is just across from a tower, building, or object

How to counter:  Try to find an alternate way out. If not, try to stall for backup so they can kill the Freeze without you having to be slowed down by the Freeze effect. If you have a long range weapon, impatience will take him over and hopefully, you will have a chance to take him out. If you have a shorter ranged weapon, try using a mine to lower his health before you actually get into close combat. This way, it will minimize the level of freezing that it does to your tank. If someone if chasing you, then the only way is to just try to kill him as soon as you can.

Those are just a few ways to anticipate your opponents.

Remember, enemies will always go for:

- Easy to kill opponents

- Flag

- Kill stealing

- Supplies

- Crystals and Golds

The most basic thing to do is to stay away from being categorized as one of these. When carrying a flag, try to be closer to teammates so they can shield you from any damage, and try not to go a way where the enemy can easily pick up supplies to use against you. On your way, take any supplies you see so you minimize the chance of them getting their hands onto one and using it to their advantage.

Good luck in battle!

honestly this was good , but I really expect more tips then this. And for tip number 4, normally trying to "Fake Out" a shaft is a really effective way... to get my hunter m1 down to 1 hitpoint in 1 second.

Some great tips here. I'm not sure if it would come under 'anticipation' but a good tip for when dueling with a railgun is to stay near cover and try to time when the railgunner will come out of cover to fire, so that you know when to quickly back out of the way. As soon as the player has fired their railgun, you know you are safe for a few seconds, giving you time to safely attack.
