Basing applications for being a consultant on maturity, not age.

 Share

Recommended Posts

I've seen some people on the forum that are incredibly mature and helpful, and would do very well at being a consultant. However, they are unable to become ones purely because they're not old enough by 1 or 2 years. My proposition is this, remove the age requirement for becoming a consultant, and instead see if they are mature enough to fill the position, because I have seen many people 16 and under who are as mature as 20 year olds, and many 20 year olds who are as immature as 10 year olds. I see no downside to this other than a potentially larger amount of time needed to read about an applicant and maybe do some research on they're recent posts to see if they are mature enough and/or helpful. I would expect that in the past there have been immature applicants that have been easily and immediately rejected, so why would it be harder to do so for other obviously immature forumers?

Please discuss here giving arguments to your opinions and without trolling or flaming. If this gets good enough feedback, I'll post it somewhere on the feedback site.

Well there is a positive correlation between maturity and age, which is the reason why we have age limits for being a consultant/moderator. Although mature, young players might not yet be ready to handle some of the responsibilities that come with being a staff member... But, I guess this idea is worth discussing  :)

;o You mean me Right?

Pretty sure he doesn't mean you.

Anyways, I've asked around and I've been told that they make exceptions SOMETIMES.

But I still do agree that it should be based on maturity; not age.

Good idea but still there should be age limits since I don't want 10 year old kids moderator for example.(this sure will not happen) but 16+ would be cool

Everyone signs up for Free Crystals. ahaha

But you know how you say those people who are helpful. Do you know if they even want to take on the job as a Consultant etc.?  Some just like to help without being elevated to a higher status etc.

As has been said, FBI has been made a consultant, kool was a mod, and any number of the reporters have been officially underage....

Nevertheless, how would you "judge" maturity from someone? What if they want to help out with Tanki but have not been on the forum, how do you judge their maturity? What about people who act totally immature but once they get their job they "sober up" (e.g. FBI)? How do you judge maturity anyway, everyone has their own definitions and surely some people will be considered mature whilst others don't? What is mature on a forum anyway? Using correct grammar and spelling? How do you judge how well someone will deal with situations by the way in which they post a few posts on a forum? And what about creating haters by saying "you aren't mature enough" in a reply to an application?

In theory, judging "by maturity" sounds great. In practice, it can't really happen. Age as a way to cut off participants may suck, but it's the best method out of a bad lot.

It's not only age. It's karma, forum posts, behaviour, security check from tech support, etc. Which means if someone is good enough, just not the right age, he might get a chance. The same way a 30-year old can be denied because of karma or something like that.

Oh, then could you edit the requirements a bit to say that there can be exceptions for the age limit? Because the way that it is said that being 18 is required and applications that don't fill the requirements will be ignored doesn't imply that exceptions are possible.

And skit, maybe if they haven't posted on the forum often but their application seems decent, they could be accepted on a probation where they could be strictly observed for any needed amount of time to judge their maturity.

I have no right to edit the application (change requirements), it's made by the administration, also probably there's some legal stuff in it, lawyers, etc. It will stay like it is.

And where is it said (consultant part) that applications that don't meet the requirements will be ignored? I read all applications no matter if they contain the whole app or just a random 'hi'. All that's said is if you don't get a response within few days it means you were denied.

Those that haven't used the forum don't have much of a chance since half of consultant work is forum. And we can't take someone who doesn't know how to/hasn't used it.

Why does almost everyone say that. Someone who likes helping people could apply for a consultant, and for their work, they get crystals.

Applying for a consultant requires maturity, and ''noobs wich want crystals'' don't have it

As I said it's not only age. As for you, you're getting warnings and bans almost every day, so don't be so optimistic. And that's just talking about karma, not mentioning other things.

No need to reply here, PM.
