"Hell" and "damn" are not bad words!

A recent number of players have been getting banned for saying "hell" and "damn."

First, "hell" is a religious belief, thus, it is not a bad word. So it is a place in the Bible and only Christians or whatever believe it, it doesn't make it bad just because some people believe that it is a bad place. People have OTHER beliefs, mods, so you are going to ban someone for saying a place some people don't believe in, and a place that you cannot see, hear, feel, touch, or smell? Sure, you believe in it and it is a bad place, but is it necessarily a bad word just because of your own beliefs? If it was generally accepted by EVERYBODY who speaked English and not a small minority of English speakers, then it would be considered a bad word.

Thus, because of how many people that are in a certain religion that believes in hell, people have different beliefs, and you can't determine something to be a bad word that only some believe to be bad.

First, this is not a religious debate, it is a post about "hell" and "damn" and why they are not bad words.

Moving on, we have the word "damn." If I may just make an example of a person, . He has "damn" in his name, but he is now Major General. If damn was an unacceptable word, his name wouldn't be that. Now, some of you might argue "he played a long time." Well, if he is that high ranked, then he probably hasn't been told when he was a Warrant Officer or something like that, showing that mods aren't going to ban him, even when he was a low rank. However, a few mods are okay, maybe even nice, but a mod that considers damn to be a bad word really doesn't understand the meaning behind it.

Here it is from the dictionary:

—used to show that you are angry or annoyed at a person, thing, or situation

—used to say in a forceful way that you do not care about something

to send (someone) to hell as punishment after death

So you "damn" someone to hell as a punishment. That's still based on religion, and not everybody believes in the same religion, so a mod techinally can't ban for that reason. You damn pig! Eh, so you are angry and annoyed, big deal. It doesn't express a high degree of anger or insult like F*** YOU B****!!! It is somewhat subtle, expressed to show small annoyance or anger. Maybe someone says "this damn car!" I guess that they don't care about that car, but is that bannable? Hmm... (four years later)... no.

First, I bet some mod is going to come and say "no discussing moderator's actions!" Umm... I'm not discussing about bans... I'm not calling the mods bad things... not saying "this guy got banned for saying hell," etc.

Also, if people who are going to post "this is breaking the rules," I'd like you to READ. THE. DAMN. TITLE. Haha, used damn in there, funny, right? It goes along with the subject we are talking about. Back to the title. This post is basicly a persuasive thread to get you to believe that hell and damn are not bad words, if you don't believe that already.

So you were too lazy to read a giant block of text. Guess what? Read it.

I realize that both words can be used in a religious context. BUT, there is more than one context that they can be used in. If you are using those words in an insulting or rude context, then they are considered swear words.

No, they are not considered swear words at all... did you even read what I wrote? Something isnt' a swear word because it is used in a specific context.

Is it rude if I use love and happy?

I LOVE YOU. YOU MAKE ME VERY HAPPY.

Yes, very rude, right?

If the context was F*** YOU B**** HELL DAMN F***ER, then they would get banned for the profanity, not hell or damn. If the words are used in an insulting or rude context, then they will get banned for the other words that make it rude or insulting in the context. You can't have a rude or insulting context without profanity or insults, thus, the mods would look at the profanity and insults, not the words such as hel and damn.

Saying just "oh, hell" isn't bad or anything.

Simple explanation: If the word is in a rude or insulting context, they will get banned of the context. Just because those words are added on, it doesn't make it a swear word.

Context or intention does not decide whether something is insulting - it's the words themselves. You can't swear at someone and then explain that it doesn't deserve a ban because the intention wasn't bad...

You are entirely missing the point of what I said. I said, they can be used in MORE THAN ONE context. If it is meant to be RUDE or INSULTING or out of ANGER, it is consided my 99.99999999999999% of people to be a swear word. It is in fact against my religious beliefs to use those words out of context.

Give an example for a rude or insulting or out of anger context that won't get you banned if you took away the "hell" or "damn."

You are stating contradictions, boy!

Elaborate on exactly how he contradicted himself.

Hmm. Going back on what I wrote, it's more of an inaccuracy than a contradiction, such as "living dead."

The inaccuracies are that he states it is considered by almost everybody to be a swear word if it is meant to be rude or insulting or out of anger. Not really everybody...

Also, hell and damn cannot be used in rude or insulting or out of anger contexts solely without other cuss/curse words, because it won't even be in a rude or insulting or angry context without the accompanying words that make it rude, insulting, or angry.

He also said that they are swear words. Swear words are words that are generally accepted by everybody who speaks a language and considers it to be bad. Not just because someone thinks it is bad. Yes, he said that they can be used in more than one context, but the word can't be the only word in a certain context and make the whole sentence bad, thus, it can only be used as an accompanying word to possibly state anger or frustration along with the profanity, even if the defintions are not correct.

But yes, they can be USED, but they don't make up rude or insulting contexts.

Agreed, but since when the words 'stupid', 'dumb' and '*****' are insults?

I know I have gone off-topic, but I still am talking about words that do not deserve to get a player banned for.
