Youtube Video Monetization

 Share

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I researched this for some time before making a thread and have come up with absolutely nothing on the particular subject in the EULA or anywhere else for that matter.

I am a partner on youtube, which means I can place advertisements on videos that I create and I get a portion of the revenue back from it.  I have created a new channel, TANKI WORLD https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZ-xTwV2mnjLHxM-kBsGx2g and would like to monetize the videos on it like my main channel with over 3/4 of a million views.

Why I am posting this, is, to monetize a video with "intellectual property" such as this game, I need permission from the developer to do it legally. Like I said, I have found nothing specifically preventing me from doing this, which is why I am making this post.

Thanks, Rudy's DIesel

Considering that every aspect of the game is copyrighted, having any gameplay footage in your video is probably considered using intellectual property, as 3.1 of the EULA states:

3.1. User has a right to use Game for any personal and non-commercial purposes.

I doubt they'll give you the right to make money off of their product.

No, they won't.

like Archangel said, it would be forbidden by the law.

see carefully

Well, people have made money off gameplay videos of more famous games (eg FIFA)... This is an interesting one, let's wait and see for a proper response.

Seems legit.

Let's assume that you do have a successfully running and monetized channel with 3/4 of a million views, wouldn't you have figured out how monetization works by now? Tanki is a free online game and as such can be found as an all-access resource on the world wide web. That being said, you need no written permission from its publisher in order to receive revenue, as TO is already under YouTube's creative commons and attributions license. Take my channel for example. I have it primarily based on Tanki videos and have not thus far received any sort of copyright notification. After all, you are filming and editing the footage of the free-to-play game yourself, meaning that the videos are your own copyrighted content  by default. It is the same with every other online game.

Presumedly, though it probably wasn't FIFA's responsibility anyway as Valleta explained.

Let's not forget that most of the people who upload gameplay of such games are already affiliated with some sort of network that allows the user to receive revenue off of a paid game (aka to be partnered) If not, YouTube might ask you for a document that confirms that you have allegedly purchased the game and therefore have the right to make videos using its footage. [That rarely happens though] If you are partnered, your network will most probably fill out the paperwork for your game for you. For the sake of simplicity, let's say you have bought a game (piratebay doesn't work here I'm afraid), Minecraft, for example. You aren't partnered and you put upa let's play series of the game. When trying to monetize it you might get a notice that tells you that additional information (aka a written document) is needed in order for your let's plays to be able to get money. If you're partnered with some sort of gaming network you cannot get this notice, since your network has automatically ticked off the probability of you uploading corrupted content. So that's it kids, get partnered!

I'm quite a nerd when it comes to youtube :P I like to have all my facts straight.

Well, I can see that xD

Seems like you've answered the OP's question pretty comprehensively; time to close this now, mods?

Thanks for the responses.

For truth and bearing and all sorts, here's the main account: https://www.youtube.com/user/mrfanman2u and here's TANKI WORLD. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZ-xTwV2mnjLHxM-kBsGx2g

I'm getting around 500 views a day, with about  5-10 clicks per day on average (some days there are no clicks, other days there are 20).  The account is old and has little hope of ever growing much bigger than it already is due to it's age.

Thanks for answering my questions, I had seen no monetized Tanki videos and I was thinking that it wasn't allowed.     We are not allowed to use music (except Royalty Free and artists which we have written permission to use their work) and we are not allowed to use intellectual property of things we don't have permission to use.  My thing is, I upload stuff as I have time and just let it do it's thing.

^Wow, you really weren't kidding. O_o

I monetize my videos. I am not partnered with a network and may never be so I probably will not be seeing any money floating my way. I may actually stop monetizing at some point just to let my viewers watch without all those pesky ads.

^ This reminds me of the fun story of how I am practically partnered with Exonia but I'm too darn lazy to link my adsense account to my paypal, in other words I have about 50 bucks somewhere out there waiting to be sent to me, but I don't give enough of a donkey's popsicle to actually claim them. Ah, procrastination gets you nowhere XD
