'll give you a reason to discount to 50%

Israel we have an important holiday like Independence Day

That's great, we have Independence Day in America too. :) But sales are usually given on RUSSIAN holidays or special days.

I think these discussions miss out on the economics of the web. Here's my view of  the bigger picture.

A site like this has a number of options to generate revenue:

1. Subscription - they charge a monthly or annual fee to play

2. Entry fee - similar to buying a game for your Xbox etc.

3. Advertising - getting money from companies to feature banners, pop-ups, messages or in-game stuff such as posters in the game graphics.

4. Paid upgrades - create a system that offers enhanced game-play for those that are prepared to pay real cash for it.

You can combine these options or rely on one alone.

Tanki uses option 4, the paid upgrades.  They offer the chance to buy crystals and therefore have better equipment than other opponents. The upgrade packs that even allow access to equipment reserved for higher ranks is an obvious example.

One way to encourage people to purchase crystals is to offer discounts - the two-for-one card etc. The upgrade sales also fall into this category.  If you've got your eye on an upgrade and there's a discount but you don't have enough to buy it, you're more likely to spend cash in order to get the required number of crystals and take advantage of the discount offer.

I really don't have any problem with this.  We get to play the game for free and it's up to us whether we buy crystals or not.  If you look at the new FIFA14 they charge you to buy the game and then sell you coins too.

Personally, I'll continue to play without making a purchase, and enjoy a great game for nothing.  OK, it may take me longer to get the upgrades I'd like, but I respect the fact that the designers are entitled to make money from their labours and it's my choice.  Complaining about the size of the discounts offered seems churlish in the wider context of the game.

You should put that in Ideas and Suggestions. And are you trying to suggest that Tanki should not be free? That's just going to lessen the growing amount of players Tanki has.

Hey, I waited a month for a Halloween sale :( . You don't know (or maybe you do <_<) how much I wanted to use my crystals without the sale  . But it gets kinda annoying when you keep reading: "Whaa? It's only 13%?" "I want 75% off!!!"

maybe if we keep saying this tankionline team will change their mind, you never know.

No.  I love that it's free.  The fact that you can get access to all the levels etc without paying anything is great.  It's so much better than those games which will let you get to level 5 or similar but that then demand payment.  Having free entry encourages new players to join and keeps the whole thing ticking over. (I'll save you the details of different models for attracting people to websites  ;) )

Wait, so what do you mean by option 1?

I'm saying that's one of the ways that a game can generate revenue.  It has big disadvantages as you have to persuade people that the game is worth buying.  Unless you've already got an established brand you're looking at a hell of a lot of advertising to do this.

Oh. But I don't want that happening to Tanki.  -_-

We did that to MU's and Physics updates, but they didn't change it. Clearly majority don't like them.

so there are not going to be any sales till Christmas :(  :( ?

  It's only what, 2 months away? More time to earn some crystals, and there might be random sales in November.
