Who is studing mathematics here?

Hi Guys,

I'm doing my Ph.D in Mathematics. It is so interesting to know the mathematicians here!

Do you study mathematics in University? If your answer is positive, please reply this post.

Why do you interested in mathematics?

What is you major field?

Do you want continue your education to advance graduated degree?

Hi. Welcome to the forum. I studied Maths until I was 18 and then switched over to Electronic Engineering. We still do a fair bit of Calculus and trigonometry. What exactly is your PhD topic?

Thanks. Numerical Linear Algebra and Image restorations are my major topics. :)

I posted this topic to gather some friends who are interested or studied in mathematics.

Nice. I have studied a bit about image processing myself. It was really interesting. Studied morphological image processing, DCTs, edge detection etc but didn't go into the mathematical side in depth. What did you major in your undergrads?

DCTs, FFTs and signal processing are studied by electrical engineering as by mathematics students.

My major field in B.S and M.S was applied mathematics as it is now. Therefore, at this time, I am working hardly to understand all concepts in engineering.

Currently sitting here doing a maths lesson. Take a punt at these.. to be fair, both pretty easy, but why not type random questions out to encourage you to do your maths huh

4) Four Times the Number of Yellows Equaled 76 reduced by 6  times the number of Reds. If there were 4 more yellows than reds, how many of each were there?

5) Find the equation of a line that passes through the point (-2,-7) and is parallel to the line 2x+3y=4.

^_^

Note that this topic is created to introduce the mathematician in forum!

But exceptionally I answer, I think that the answers are:

First Question:

R: Red, Y: Yellow

If i correctly understood your question,

Four Times the Number of Yellows Equaled 76 reduced by 6  times the number of Reds => 4Y=6R-76  (1)

4 more yellows than reds => Y=4+R (2)

By solving (1) and (2) we have, Y=50, R=46

Second Question:

Find the equation of a line that passes through the point (-2,-7) and is parallel to the line 2x+3y=4:

Slope of 2x+3y=4 is -2/3, hence your equation is y=(-2/3)x-(25/3)

Feel free to message me if you have any questions in the engineering side. I will try my best to help you or give links to sites that helped me. Do you use MATLAB?

Thanks so much. Surely, I'm going to do that.

Yeah, it's my major software in image processing and mathematics.

I'm not studying maths full-time yet, but I want to do maths at university when I get there. I'm currently doing both Maths and Further maths for my A levels at college

I'm doing Maths, Further Maths, and Physics (just applied maths :P ) at A-Level atm (last year before Uni for you American people)

Good luck in the exams you guys :). Do you sit 6 papers/units for each subject?
