It's the forum that might have some spamming bots.

 

If you had a Virus, you had browser windows opening or closing without your permission, unknown errors popping up, slower processing, memory leaks, windows spamming and others. It varies a lot.

 

I can assure you that what you saw is problem of the forum's security and not yours.

 

If you didn't click the ad and allow it to install stuff in your PC, I pretty much guarantee you're safe.

ok i got scared

i almost thought there would be a keylogger on my mac and it would steal all my accounts

Just get one of the various free antivirus or anti-malware softwares and scan every so often. Also use NoScript on fishy websites, before you click on them. I've got Avast, Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes all installed at once. :D

What browser do you use? the problem is most likely related to an extension you downloaded.

Yes. I got my IE with loads of advertisements and they for cleared out soon after I deleted my extension

Try to search it in programs or the extension page of your browser
