I think starting religion discussions is forbidden?

Am I right?

I hope not, as long as it doesn't get out of hand, it is ok.

There are over 81 different names give for God, throughout the world. Even those who claim not to believe in God acknowledge there is a force greater than ourselves that is responsible for all things, which poses the question “what does one call that greater force?”... :)

Ohhhhh not this.

As for the question, no. I speak as a former 'tick-the-box' theist. Having always assumed God would exist, I started to get more interested in the issue. And as I discovered more, I tended away from theism. To me, being irreligious actually offers freedom of sorts - religion comes from the Latin word 'religio', meaning 'to bind'. I am not bound by the restrictions that religion can place upon individuals and a society, yet I am still able understand and support the benefits that religion can bring to humanity.

It's likely this'll be closed anyway, and I can understand why. Though it would prove a thought-provoking and stimulating discussion, I personally think this is a step too far. Will we be able to discuss this topic without it getting out of hand? I doubt it. I'm not sure the community as a whole is mature enough to debate such issues with complete sensitivity and respect.

(EDIT) Not to mention that, if I'm perfectly honest, trying to discuss religion with *some* people is basically as constructive as talking to a brick wall. Sadly, most people tend not to want to hear another side to the argument when it comes to religion.

Answer the question that this topic has posed? I already have. I don't think he exists; in terms of belief, I'm a humanist.

Answer the question you posed? Well, I agree with you - there's so much suffering in the world because... maybe he doesn't exist? *gasp* *pls no hate ok* Alternatively, there are theistic ideas which would offer explanations, though I personally don't find 'em overly convincing.

For the first time I agree with Gold
