Would you ever want to be home-schooled?

Nope

I think that the kind of social exposure that a school provides is essential for everyone in their formative years.

Agreed. I guess it prevents the building of prejudices in young people, and enables them to be more open in thought due to the social aspect of school.

As a homeschooler, i can tell you that we get the same level of social exposure as you do, in after-school activities and wotnot. I can also tell you that at least in the usa, home schoolers get collage grades that are on average 15% higher than public schooled kids.

Yeah, I can see why your grades would be higher. But I disagree that you'd get the same level of social exposure - it's bound to be less, simply because you'd study with other students in school all of the time. And that can have both positive and negative influences on you - the negative being impacts on actual grades/learnings, but the positive being your social development. Now, I'm not saying that homeschoolers can't be socially developed either, but it does seem to me that some homeschoolers can sometimes tend to have more restricted or prejudiced views on things, as they may not have had all the social experiences a young person going to school would.

I totally agree with this guy. If you have stereotypical opinions about homeschoolers, watch this video.

I enjoy friends. You get more time to spend with them when not stuck at home.

Not true for me, I get to do so much more when your home schooled, you get to work, volunteer, help people and learn more of what you want... I also get to spend more time with friends and family.. ")

As a homeschooler, I can tell you that we get the same amount of 'social exposure' as public and private schoolers around the age of 7 and up. Until that age I really wouldnt like my kids to have that kind of exposure, I sat in on a first grade class and the behavior of the kids there appaled me. My younger brother was soon joining in with the rowdyness, even though he was just looking for the day as well. The teacher didnt even try to controll them. When my kids are mature enough to know bad behaivor when they see it, I would be fine for them to be exposed to this. I think they will learn from it.

But we still get that exposure out of school, dont worry.

  It wouldnt help your socialism very much, unless you made the effort :D

At this point I have plenty of options for university, by I've learned that the formal education system is extremely flawed, so for the time being I choose to study on my own at my own pace.

Not completely true, its the students who have to make the effort in the education system, its not about the education system itself, i'd say the system gets you prepared for work after education, it disiplines you as well and you can get prepared for a lot more things rather than being homeschooled, its important to be able to handle life issues as well, school contributes to this. If you have pressure to learn at the schools pace, you set yourself challenges and this can help you as well, not everyone has this choice.

There's a lot of freedom to it

Yes thats true, there is a lot of freedom to it, though i dont prefer home schooling because although you have freedom, it gets quite boring to be educated at home by 1 teacher only

Especially here in the Uk

Even though there is freedom to it, I shall have to say a strong no. The public school I attend has amazing hands-on programs that correlate with my career cluster I would like to go in, and offers a plethora of courses in each area. I would not trade this for the world.

I was, and am doing awesome in college.

Collages prefer homeschoolers because they know how to work on thier own and without deadlines. Some public schoolers never develope that.
