The difference?

Recommended Posts

Quiet has to do with ''silence'', so if you say ''Be quiet'' you tell someone to be silent.

Quite is an adjective. It is similar to ''pretty''. Example: ''That was a pretty awesome shot'' or ''That was a quite awesome shot''.

I guess some native English person can help you further if this is not clear enough, and if I am wrong.

Hello.

I was wondering, what is the difference between Quiet and Quite?

Thank you.

Quiet = Silent, making little noise if any at all.

Quite = To a fairly significant extent, so it's like fairly and a bit.

And from a website;

The difference between quiet and quite

  • quiet is an adjective and it is the opposite of loud
    • “Please be quiet. The baby is asleep.”
    • Quiet! The police is around the corner!”
  • The word quite is an adverb and it means roughly the same as very
    • “Your lemonade tastes quite good!”
    • “She was quite excited when she found this website.”
