“Right, Benny, get us over to that pile of boulders cleared from the field. If you swing us right, you’ll be able to see it through your port.” Terry called to Benny. “You’re going to want to get on the south side of them. From where the shot hit, that should get us out of their line of fire.” The tank began to rotate as another large crash was heard. “Oh yes,” added Terry “fast would be nice…” I lined the turret up with the front of the tank and began to look through the scope. A few long seconds of trundling towards the rock pile later, a large cloud of dirt shot up a few meters in front of the tank.
“Miss!” shouted Terry. My brain started churning. What felt like hours later, we reached the rocks.
“Well, now what?” I asked.
“We’re working on that right now.” Idler said. “We’re trying to find some guys to support you.”
“You’re so kind, but I don’t know how long we can last out here. I mean, I know the thing is indestructible, but if we get swarmed by infantry…” Benny said with obvious fear in his voice.
“I’m sorry, but you are going to have to make do. Not much I can do at the moment.” Idler replied.
“Yeah, but there is some I can.” I said. “From where the shell hit, I think I know where they are firing from. Benny, if you would be so kind to give me a vantage point…” Benny slowly started to creep the tank out from the cover of the rock. “Thanks… now, to get the shot.” I stood up and looked through the spotting ports above my station. “I think they’re back in that area of tall grass over there, if you know what I am talking about.” I said to Terry. “You’ve got magnified viewports, can you find ‘em?”
“Already got ‘em spotted, Eric.” he said back. “Sending you the position now.” A small outline appeared in my viewports. I used the controls to center the turret on it.
“Now for the tricky part…” I murmured as a shell made a whiz as it skimmed the turret.
“I’m not sure how wise this is…” Benny said with a crack in his voice.
“Well Benny” I started with a grin. I released the trigger and the small object in my sights turned to a burning ball of flame. “I think all of your worries just, well, disappeared.” I said with a chuckle.
“Great shot!” called Terry. “I could just barely see the turret of that Tiger! That should teach them a lesson!”
“Whatever just happened…” Idler popped back up on the radio again. “... it sounds like you did a good job of it. Now, I think you should carefully proceed back to base and we will work this through in the command center.” We all very willingly agreed.

“So, what exactly happened out there?” Idler asked once we had returned and were nice and safe in the command center. Terry seemed very eager to report.
“Well, we completed the first part of the objective when we suddenly were put under fire from what appeared to be an 88 millimeter gun. Upon further inspection, it turned out to be from a German Tiger. I had Benny get us behind some cover so we could think out our next move. Lt. Eric suggested taking a shot back, which would also help us test the weapon. We had already taken several shots with next to no damage inflicted to us, so I didn’t see what it would hurt. After spotting the target on the horizon, Eric took an expertly aimed shot straight through the Tiger. We are unsure about the current status of the crew, but we assume them all dead as no motion was made by the destroyed vehicle or any crew attempting to escape the wreck.”
“Well, great job at taking out an enemy vehicle. Now we know that this weapon is accurate enough for the job. Now, to the main problem. First of all, that Tiger was almost certainly reporting their discovery of your tank to higher up officers. Because they were probably cut off halfway through their report, they should know the extreme power of these vehicles as well. Worst of them all, they know almost exactly where this facility is.” Idler explained.

Benny leaned forward and rested his elbows on the desk. After rubbing his temples with his  fingers, he asked “So, what do you suppose we do, sir? We seem rather trapped from my perspective… I mean, we are effectively in a giant hole in the ground. If we pop up, it’ll be like shooting ducks.”
“We are quite aware of that.” Idler answered calmly. “We have sent to other leaders to inform them of the happenings. Hopefully we can get some other support down here before long.”
“Not to be rude…” I said “... but what good will that do in this situation? We are going up against the entire German, and for all we know, Japanese armies.” Idler chuckled.
“Why, does it not seem obvious, my boy!? There is this little thing we have been developing for several years now… you may just have heard of it. It’s called super tanks. You see, you boys seem to know a decent amount about operating these things. We’ll just get you some more crews that you can train up…”
“Woah, woah, hold up there, partner.” I cut in. “So, we go from testing some fancy tanks for you to completely training a company of tankmen to fight?”
“Well, yeah. You are really the only people other than me who know how to run these things very well. Me, being one of the heads of the project cannot risk an injury or even death. Therefor, it must be you three.”

We finally agreed to do it when Idler began listing reasons why we should and how he couldn’t.
“Just one more question before we make this a deal, okay? How are we going to train these guys? It’s not like we can bring ‘em up to the surface and train them there.” Benny asked.
“You are just going to have to make do with the classroom stuff. Teach them the controls and how to make basic maneuvers. They’ll just have to learn as they fight. These vehicles do seem rather forgiving, wouldn’t you agree? I can also assure you that these men WILL be qualified to operate a tank. You do not need to teach them everything to do with the machines. Now, off to your bunks! I have some strategy planning I need to do.”

It ended up taking two days to get a reply back about any reinforcements coming. They were going to send enough men to make four crews. It was mentioned that it would be several days, however. In the mean time, because we were technically leading officers in the facility, Idler had ordered us to all be issued pistols in case of emergency. Even with the large amounts of stress, Terry, Benny, and I all spent a little time spinning them around our fingers and playing with them while empty while we were waiting. Over the course of the next several days, Russian, English, American and Canadian soldiers starting showing up 1 at a time. It was at these times that I finally realized how fun it actually was to scare people coming down the ladder entrance the way the Russian guards had when I had first arrived.

About a week after we had first been spotted by and destroyed the Tiger, all of the reinforcements had arrived. As Idler had ordered, we began to train them. We lined them up in the large garage filled with the metal monsters and began to explain the project and what the different models were.
“Alright, newbies! We have several hulls here. In order from lightest to heaviest, which also happens to be from your left to right, they are: Wasp, Hornet, Dictator, Hunter, Viking, Titan, and Mammoth. Remember that!” I explained. “Now, onto what each one does…”

After going through every single tank and making sure everyone understood, Idler came out and began to explain the task at hand and the procedure we were about to preform.
“Alright chaps! We here at this lovely facility have run into a little bit of a problem. The enemy has found our location recently and has greatly endangered the safety of this project. They know approximately where the testing grounds are, so after further investigation they should find the facility. We’re not sure on their current whereabouts, but they should be everywhere around here. Since it would be almost foolish of them to not try and destroy this while we are down, they should be preparing their breach at any time now. Now, you boys are here to see that they are unable to follow through! As for how you are going to do so… the hardest part will be getting you to the surface. We really only have one way to get a tank to the surface, and it takes about a minute to get one there. Since we can only take one at a time, we are going to send a group of elite soldiers armed with automatic guns and RPG launchers with the first vehicle to maintain its safety and wipe out any close proximity targets that may be a threat. We will continue lifting up vehicles from there.”

“Well, that settles it then. We will sort out what we do from there as it happens. For now, take your pick of the tanks, men! Remember, three to a tank, and the Viking is off limits!” I called. As the men walked towards the death machines behind me, I glanced at Terry and Benny. We smirked at one another as I cracked my fingers. I spun on my heel and began strolling behind the crowd to mount our personal Viking.
