That depends on the context. If you say ''I just won 88 crystals'' or ''I have 88 Nitro'' or ''My ping is 88'', it's not bad of course. If you aim to mean your example, it's a bad word, so I would avoid using it in that manner, but putting ''88'' in the chat is not wrong, unless it is flood of course. I also think that many people didn't know about 88, I have never heard about it :)

I take my words back. I asked a chatmoderator about your question, and he said that the player has to change the nickname due to the following reasons

• It can be taken provocative, as in ''88'' --> Eights --> Aids
• The reason you gave in your first post
• If the account is very low-ranked the mod would ban him because random numbers is not really clear

 

So, yes, the player will be banned for it.

I take my words back. I asked a chatmoderator about your question, and he said that the player has to change the nickname due to the following reasons

• It can be taken provocative, as in ''88'' --> Eights --> Aids
• The reason you gave in your first post
• If the account is very low-ranked the mod would ban him because random numbers is not really clear

 

So, yes, the player will be banned for it.

Why would we even use number symbols? Let's forget all of them. But seriously, you did not pay attention to #3, do that first, and if it is provocative, it should be removed, that's obvious. I guess the chatmods guidelines explain when people can be banned for an inappropriate nickname. I have no access to read them, so the only thing I can do for you is to get a chatmod or admin here to explain.

There's a teacher in our school who once refused to walk into a classroom because a student had written "666" on the board xD

 

Hmm... If 88 is bad, surely @monkeyburn should have to change his name for referring to animal cruelty, and too for referring to underage drinking?

 

To me, this just seems like a case of trying to find a reason for the term "88" to not be permitted. I've personally never heard anyone say "You're such an 88!", but there you go.

 

Of course, usernames such as @YouWantMyclick can just be ignored, since they don't have any inappropriate references at all(!)

Nick Names are mainly banned on basis of its meaning. For you a numeric number might be of significance, but in other part of world it might be of no meaning. Example these 88,44 etc.

Nick names are banned if they are profane/insulting/abusive/flood . Same concept is applicable on words too.  

 

Those who find inappropriate nicknames can post there complaints in Chat Violations. Appropriate action will be Taken.
