Hello dear tankmen. Do you want to make people aware of a cause, promote something or simply want to be heard?

Monthly, we will publish

In order to be published, you need to log in the forum and PM 3d32025f.pngRaphael2 with your text. It will be published the next month as long as it is nicely written, appropriate and suitable for all ages. We reserve the right to publish your texts at our absolute discretion..

Let's start with a short and funny article written by @Lankbouv

Tanki Etiquette: The Other Side.

When people write about Tanki etiquette they often talk about boring stuff such as "Not to start the battle with uneven teams", but this article may have something a little bit more.  I want to say now, that although some of these things will be serious, others will not be serious.  All in all, read this article light heartedly but watch out for any tips.

So, let's get right into it.  Things not to do:

1) Never rank in people's faces.

Since Tanki introduced the ever so lovely feature of a big bright burst of light when someone ranks, ranking parties have certainly got more fun.  However, in terms of etiquette, it is quite offensive when someone does it in front of your face.  Also, in my case, it caused my abysmal computer to crash due to lag.  So, please tankers, avoid doing that.  Organise a party, or at the very least snipe someone, but don't do it in a gold-box rush where you'll cause everyone's computers to collapse.

rQo9muV.png

2) When ranking, don't do it by capturing a flag.

I'm not really sure why this is wrong, but I think @hogree once told me, and it has become the most vile thing that I can see in the battle.  What's even worse, is when you do it by returning a flag, or the lowest of the lows, healing with Isida.  It's like giving an overweight person a weight-watchers catalog for their birthday.  Not good.

3) When waiting for gold box, never kill the guy who has no chance of getting it.

Look at it this way, you're a WO5 in a Generalissimo battle surrounded by Mammoths.  All you want to do is see the gold box drop, you know you'll never have a chance of getting it, and then, some power hungry freeze destroys you.  Guys, if you were that WO5, you would be EXTREMELY angry.  So, don't do it.

4)  In DMs, never team up with a drugger.

When someone starts drugging in a DM, they're going to get a lot of haters.  If you would normally team with him because you have the same weapon then now is the time to stop.  The moment they press 234 they are an outcast unless you yourself are willing to follow them into the void by doing the same.  Hunt them down.  Now, for you, they are not worthy to be teamed with.  Pretend they are Godmode_ON and take out all your anger on them.  Team with them, however, you you WILL be cast out from the community.

And completely out of context I thought I'd show you a picture of me in my Godmode_ON paint:

O0t3xxz.png

I suppose there is a link if you work out that I'm drugging....

5)  If you're an Isida, don't heal a flipped person.

This always irritates me, because it is so dumb.  The only reason you're doing it is for exp.  Why not go and help someone who needs helping?  And besides, you're just another perfect example of a nooby Isida.  (like @hogree)]

So...it's not a very long article, but that concludes my Tanki Etiquette article, thanks for reading :)

@AkiliW sent us an original guide.

Guide to Slendertank Battles

            Slendertank Battles are a little known game mode developed by Maverick18. The equivalent of the final boss in mario, it pits a powerful enemy against a swarm of wasps. The idea was born on a cold and rainy morning, not too long ago. Maverick had just finished watching a not-so trustworthy video on the worlds biggest myth spawning site, Youtube. After he finished bleaching his mind of all the evilness in the world, he sat down at his drawing pad and created a battle mode-- Slendertank.* Generally, the word slenderman is given to a mythical monster which may or may not exist exclusively in cyberspace. It is said to have twelve arms and no face, and can disappear and reappear at will.** But let us leave the realm of imagination, and return to solid ground again.

*This part is not true.
**This part is true.

How to play.

            Like XP battles, Slendertank (ST) battles have a general outline, within which there are many variations. In a nutshell, there is the Slendertank, and everyone else. Whoever is chosen to be 'it' usually has Viking, Titan, or Mammoth, along with Ricochet, Thunder, or Railgun and a protective paint against Smoky, with the aim of making 'it' as strong as possible. Everyone else must have Wasp and Smoky, with no protective paints. The game is played in Death Match mode, so that 'it' can kill everyone in the map. The Wasps, AKA the survivors of a nuclear Apocalypse, have to team up and work together to defeat the monster who is bent on killing as many people as possible. The game is not one where you swamp the monster Godmode_ON style, the aim of the battle is to stay alive for as long as you can. This means that Slender is playing a game of hide and seek with the Wasps, with the survivors shooting at their target from (hopefully) well chosen hiding places.  Much like a game of tag, however, a ST battle usually has no clear winner. The winner is not the Wasp with the most kills, it is the Wasp with the most kills AND the best D/L. Unless the Wasps can never kill their target, the one chosen to be Slender can never win. A ST battle can have 2 Slendertanks if there are more than ten players total.

Tips and Tricks

               Like XP battles, one does not simply wake up and decide to win a Slendertank battle. One has to know the best hiding spots in each map. Generally speaking, the best maps include Polygon, Desert, 2042, Novel, Bobruisk, or any other map with plenty of cover. The best technique to win a ST battle is to have multiple tanks playing peekaboo (hiding behind a wall, and then backing out just as you have finished reloading) at once.

Example of Peekaboo technique:

9a3BoZb.gif?1?1824

                When multiple tanks are doing this the Slendertank in the middle cannot concentrate on one Wasp at a time, because the others will kill him, but he cannot turn his turret to keep up with the alternating firing of the other players.

                 The best way for the Slendertank itself to survive is too find a good camping spot and defend that. Unlike XP battles, ST battles are not usually played with Pro passes, and so mines can be used. The other option which works well with combos such as Viking and Ricochet is to keep moving and target one Wasp at a time. If you keep moving fast enough, the other Wasps cannot find a good spot to snipe you from and stick with it. This method is very difficult, however, and is very easy to get wrong.

                   Although it does not give you the high rewards that a XP battle provides, ST battles are a fun way to spend an afternoon with friends, and provide a better alternative to racing on death track all day. So please, gather a group of friends and try it out. Be sure to comment and tell us how it goes!

Until next time,
AkiliW

And finally, @Xanthosis sent us a detailed and enjoyable review on Silence. As he wrote it before the maps were changed, some information might not be relevant, but it's still a great analysis.

silence_zpsa33cf33d.png

Before I begin, I would like to state that this is a review which therefore means what I say in this article WILL NOT, I repeat, WILL NOT be absolute fact. This is my personal view on the map "Silence" altogether. If there's anything I say that you disagree with, just post it down below; that's something we can discuss.

~~~
Intro
Silence; if I were to describe that map in one word, I'd use "prestigious" because, let's face it, Silence is the most popular map in the game by a long shot. I don't think there's anyone above Staff Sergeant who has not played this map; it's hard to miss. You can find it anywhere! A sequel of this map has been made for it and there's even a lunar version with its own soundtrack? I don't think that will happen to any map anytime soon.
Firstly, what was the impact of this map?
If not for Silence, I don't think the CTF mode in general would be that popular. The reason why CTF is the most popular mode is due to the fact every server is filled with Silence maps with a variety of different settings. I think it's gotten to the point where people would leave if the map was deleted. I know that sounds a bit ludicrous but I genuinely think that players are so accustomed to the map that they'd leave if they couldn't play a good game of it.
Secondly, what's the gameplay like?
Like with most, it depends what kind of mode you're playing it in, what team you're on and where you choose to go in the map. I'd say that the gameplay sorta has the Attackers VS Defenders because generally, the red team will have more attack and less defense while the blue team are vice versa; more defense and less attack.
But see, that's generally speaking. When it comes to the balance in the teams and secret places to go, is it really that equal? The one aspect that make it unbalanced is:
The cliff
This is the sole reason why the red team generally attack more. See, they only have to nab the flag with their teammates, make one crumbly leap of faith and boom, they're back in their base meaning they can potentially be healed by nurses (Isida) waiting in the base and casually do a repeat minutes later.
It's not only the red team that has an advantage; notice how the blue team GENERALLY have more kills and a better D/L than the red team? To be honest, I think the cliff is partially responsible for that. Since it's open like that, it gives long-range guns way too many opportunities to take out red attackers before they're anywhere near the base. Heck, I've seen people who can't even make it out of the gate! It also makes it easy for the blue team to invade the red's base but that's not so bad. They either won't make the jump OR they'll die in the process of invading.
For those who absolutely despise the whole cliff concept, they can seek solace at Silence II, a sequel of the map. Problems are, the higher (I'm talking Marshal) ranks tend to play that map AND it's unlocked at Second Lieutenant. I'm aware those are not problems for some of you.
That's the question of balance covered but what is it like playing on each side? And which one do you prefer? Let's see:
RED SIDE:
Defending isn't really going to work here unless you're a fan of defending on your own. See, the blue team can easily invade but since the red team are shrouding the whole entrances to the blue team base with their players, those who nab the flag rarely make it through.
So, you've got to attack! Now, there are two ways you can get in their base; you've either got:
silencepic2_zps5fa00c83.png
It's generally harder to get in this side due to the fact for one, close combat guns will have no success in getting in due to either snipers from way into the base OR the defenders of who have gone up front with the Thunder to splash damage you and your teammates right back to the respawn points over and over again...
But also, there's this way:
silencepic3_zps62a4cc09.png
I'd say this way is more popular and your teammates tend to go this way a lot more as well so that may be more nifty for you. Nurses can help you out when you're down, teammates can cover for you and whatnot; I'd say you're more likely to succeed in an invasion taking this way. Do beware of long range guns that shoot from behind the buildings in the blue base. From where you're both standing, they've got the upper hand, LITERALLY.
BLUE SIDE:
So what about for when you're on the blue side? Well, if kills is what you're looking for, you can get it left, right and center! Due to the numerous amounts of red attackers squashed up trying to get through the two side entrances, you'll have a fun time with your Thunder shooting them down and making double kills. You can also have a BLAST using long range weapons to shoot the attackers down before they get anywhere near the base. If points is what you're looking for, you could bring your Isida and heal up the injured-after-defending teammates to rack 'em up! That will get boring, in due time though.
So which side is better?
Personally, I think that depends on:
- What kind of mode you like to play on
- What turrets you like using (you may notice certain turrets will excel on certain sides)
- What you're looking to get out of the battle (EXP, kills, points, crystals, all of the aforementioned)
What you should expect to see in the average Silence match
Though there are obviously exceptions in Silence matches, in most cases, it does require you to do the same thing. I'm gonna point out what you'll often see in a Silence match:
Why is Silence so popular?
Now, that's probably because of the great replay value it has. It's a level you'll never get bored playing. There's so many things you can do with this map that the possibilities are endless.
Is there a downside to Silence being so popular?
Yep, I guess so. Though Silence earned its fame with its replay value, due to the fact that it's so popular, it does mean other good maps are missing out on the fame it deserves. There's a ton of other good maps that could easily be as famous as Silence but it's just that not many realise it.
For those two questions, it depends how you look at it. Tell me what you think.
What is the best combo for Silence?
I personally don't think there is one, to be honest. EVERY combo can excel in this map and that's something that can't be said for all maps.
So, let's conclude here
Silence is and may always will be the top dog, the king of the hill, the man of the house. Its popularity seems to be forever growing, any combo can excel in its own way and the replay value is tremendous. Though I wish it were less popular so that there's more variety in the CTF mode. Silence pretty much rules it.
I hope that you've enjoyed these texts by Lankbouv, AkiliW and Xanthosis. I'm looking forward to read you guys, see you next month!
Awesome stuff, especially @AkiliW's article for showing some originality and sharing a unique style of play. Lank's had some good humour in their (and of course, his Heavy M3 kit which he couldn't resist throwing a pic of into the article ;) ), and @Xanthosis's article was quite thorough, though a little outdated now. But all of 'em were great reads, and it seems this is what proper Editorials should look like.
...by the way I read AkiliW's article before it was released ;)
Wow.
Wow!
Well, not only did I read his article before it was released, I also played this game style many, many times with him and Mav. (Maverick18, the inventor)
Raphael you should give the aurthors a small prize for there epic stories.
Yes....and no.
Right now people send in articals because they want other people to read them, and they put alot of work into making sure that they are well written. If there is a reward for writing articals, then people will write them just for the crystals and not bother trying to make them as good as possible.
As much as I would like some money right now, lets leave it as it is.
i like these informations but not all players respect it
They dont repect the baisic Tanki Ettiquite, either, blocking me form capturing a flag in hopes that I will let them capture it is all to common.
The same attitude and mentality is on the forum. These Editorials were written for people with a bit of honor and common sence.
