Hey folk! :)

I'm member of the German Newspaper (as you can see on my Profile) and we are planning to make a Advent calendar, which means that we are going to post an article each day in december.

And what I want you to do is to tell me about your winters, because we are planning to make an articel about "the winters of the world". It'll be very helpful if you answer those following questions:

-What do you do in winter?

-Is there snow in winter?

-Do you prefer winter to other seasons?

-What do you think is the difference between your's and other country's winter?

-What minds do you link to winter?

Please send me the answers in PM or post them here.

Thanks a lot for you all attention, we wish you a wonderful winter

Your German Newspaper Team :)

- depends where in Canada

-  province and territory has snow at least part of the winter, but out there in British Columbia it's usually only in the mountains

-  it depends on whether one is in a rush or not, whether it's rain or snow or ice, and on what the transportation mode is

- upper hemisphere is mostly snow and different degrees of cold but lower hemisphere is mostly rain or warm (instead of hot) temperatures

-  sorry but I don't understand that question so please rephrase it ...danke' shon :)

- I usually shovel snow, the heavy snow of southern Ontario isn't that easy to shovel

- Here in Toronto we get snow late November or early December, and the last snow came in April for a few years now.

- Yes, we have more activities to enjoy, such as skiing, hockey, ice skating, snowball fights, tobogganing, snowshoeing, snowboarding, etc.

- In Canada, we all get snow at different times of the year. Calgary is usually the first place to get hit with snow (in 2014 they got lots of snow in September) and Edmonton gets some of the coldest temperatures in the country. Prince Edward Island has the most overall snowfall (100+ centimeters usually). British Columbia doesn't get much snow, mostly in higher land, weather is comparable to the UK. Winnipeg gets lots of ice. Southern Ontario is surrounded by lakes, and when that lake effect kicks in it can snow for days. Here's a radar loop of lake effect snow from 2014.

Cold wind over warm water = snow

Far out east (Newfoundland) gets icebergs coming from the north and frozen seawater. New Brunswick gets more powder snow compared to other provinces, same goes for Quebec. Northern territories get lots of cold wind and snow, nothing interesting.

If you're out in the prairies (Alberta, Saskatchewan) the Apache winds from the Western Rockies and Pacific Ocean can raise the temperate as much as 20 degrees Celsius in 20 minutes.

- Usually the younger kids, heavy snow in my area means it's hard for old people to get around. Kids are the most creative with snow, I can't think of much to build with snow.

Hey,

Thank you very much for your participation. The article will appear in the German Forum on the 10th of December.

The fifth question was bad questioned. I'm sorry for this. I actually meant: "what do you associate with winter" (what is the first thing you think of winter.)

Because of where I grew up in Canada, I mostly think of igloos and other types of snow forts, when I think of winter.

I guess the kid in me hasn't left despite being an adult. lol
