What's the most important invention/discovery?

I'd say the 3 simple machines (made up of load, effort and fulcrum). Without them artisans wouldn't have been able to create the wheel, the electrical circuit and Tanki. The inventions of these machines made work tens to hundreds of times easier, and mining, carving, hunting, and cooking were able to be executed much more efficiently than if these principles did not exist. These led to the inventions of pretty much every mechanical object in existence.

Okay, trace it back to one of the first stuff discovered. Tools, knives and axes, rub them and you make fire. Use it to dig in and you find metals. Use metals to cut down trees. You made the first wheel. You made a cart. You learnt the use of animals for pulling. How did you find the use of tools? How did you make them? You found stones. Everything is dependent on each other. You say something is very important trace it back to it's origin. That's how you find the most important inventions. A lookback will take you nowhere, there is a tangled history behind everything. Just see how it was made, and look ahead.
