Has school become more about passing than actually learning?

I,personally, think school has not contributed much to its students. Besides, I study at a non-native english speaking school and the teachers use wrong english while speaking, they should not be teaching in English, they might as well teach in local language. I think only the english teachers have the real authority to teach in english.

In school, they teach us about the human cells, solar systems, etc. But my question is, how will this serve me when I grow up? When I grow up, I want to be a civil engineer or a computer programmer. But how will human cells and solar systems help me when I'm doing some math or tech? I'm pretty sure everyone else here loves education, but we all hate school. The only people that teaches us survival in the outside world, are mostly our parents. So whenever they are teaching you something, LISTEN to them.

They teach you this stuff so you know what's actually going around in the world. If you were just allowed to do what you liked and not taught what you didn't want to learn, you would just be a self-centered person with no idea what's going on because you'll be living in your own Utopia of things you wanted to do.

Not all things are important to learn, do I need to learn who conquered Europe back in the 1500s? No, I don't. Do I need to learn what is happenong around me? Yes I do. My point is, they teach us all about the past when it's already happened. They never taught us what is going on. Such as economic failure, etc. We spend 15 years learning about solar systems, but thy never taught us how to find a job, to make a resume, etc. You might say that we need to learn how to do that by ourselves, but we don't need to learn about a maid back in the 1100s who served the king.

I'm not saying that I fully support the current education system, I am just saying that there are some stuff that we HAVE to learn before we move on. Learning about the past is in some cases important. It is the always the education that is full of problems, the way we take them is what spoils our lives. If we take education just for the sake of learning, education will be much easier.

That's my point, they never make education exciting and that's why we have kids who aren't able to get a great income, etc. What saddens me is how they spent years learning about something, but they get stuck working at Burger King or someplace else.

I learn some of the subjects just because I have to learn them. Others are actually quite interesting and can help me when moving on to the university. Even though not every detail of the interesting subjects are necessary, but it's always pleasant to know them. It all depends on your interests and future plans. Some of us are interested in the functioning of the human body (for example), while others are wondering why they have to learn that. Few will like mathematics (since they'll need it for their future studies, job). For others maths is a real torture.

I love maths, I hate it when those hard think out-of-the box questions comes.

Math is really simple in my humble opinion, just make sure you pay close attention when you're doing equations. One mistake can mess everything up,

Yes. All that matters is that you passed thh class. In highscool and college all you want is an A or a good gpa. Its not about learning. Yes to get an A u have to study for exams and write papers, but you can also pass the class and not learn a single thing. Its sad that when you go out to look for a good job or college they judge you on your gpa. Because i know alot of people who fail classes and do horible in class, but they remember everything they learned.
At least when u do get the job, your real skills shows and what you have learned.

passing is extremely important in a practical way.

but of course learning is more important theoretically;

you can learn a lot in spare time, but end of day, passing that exam is a keystone to next school stage.

so in the end of the day, get the passing done first, then spend the rest to do learning.

------ a survivor of the school system.
