Humor*. It's very strange. Because for some people it maybe funny and for others not. It depends on the personalty. I don't know what Semyon laughs on and what he doesn't. So all the entries were sent randomly. It was all based on lucky. Luck if they got something Semyon likes(How are simple players supposed to know what he likes).

I agree completely that humour is very relative, we all agreed on that before we commenced judging and took it into account. That's why we brought together a panel of about a dozen judges, and made sure we used a voting system as well as taking Semyon's opinions into account. So actually, it wasn't just the random entries that Semyon liked :)

 

In this case staff are the closest people to Semyon and they know Semyon the best.

So a staff member has a 70% of winning. Also I have looked through contests and I have seen that no matter where a staff member enters he is always a winner, maybe not the top winner but he is always getting a prize. I would say this as not fair. Because players who don't know Semyon, who aren't staff have almost 20% chance of winning and most of that chance is based on luck.

Actually, Semyon doesn't know all of the staff members personally. Again, something to make clear - he's very busy as our community manager, and often leaves staff relations to the admins. So, he doesn't even really know all the staff members so well - only their admins :p When staff members do win, it's because they made a good entry - which is no surprise, because the staff are some of our most creative and respected forum members.

 

So this contest is a huge fail. Maybe for those who won it isn't but for the rest of the players it is. Because the winners were either just lucky or staff.

There should a least be a top 100 place so players who don't have the best but deserved still can get prizes.

The winners weren't lucky; they were the ones who made the best entries, as judged by a staff panel of judges. Another thing to make clear: where the staff entered themselves, they were not allowed to judge their own entries! We tried to avoid bias wherever possible.

 

And that's why we had consolation prizes - for deserving entries. We can't give so many prizes out for the sake of it, prizes should only be given to those who deserve them. Crystals are no small matter ;)

 

Also another thing. Staff are rich. They get paid. They have jobs. They shouldn't be aloud to enter contests. Not only the they have the job but + they always win. So unfair for players. Maybe it's just me being jealous. But in my opinion this contest was made wrong because it is based on luck. Semyon... bad job :mellow: <_<

Just because staff often make good entries, it doesn't mean they shouldn't be allowed to enter. That's like saying that we should ban all the winners from this time from entering more contests - or even worse, we shouldn't have contests at all, and everyone should get free crystals! In contests, there are always winners and loser. The experienced staff entrants shouldn't be penalised just because some of them did well - we had no more of an advantage than other players, we just put our experience to good use here :lol:

 

Also, staff pay doesn't come into this - they do a lot for our community, and they get paid for that, not because they're "more important" than players. Staff are players first and foremost, remember - they just take on more responsibilities to help the community.

Selena had both content and quality. she utilized captions very well. while other had humor which matches her even in some cases surpass her but in the end she takes the prize because of the quality and the work she puts in it.

Yes but what the jury likes*. How am I supposed to know what they like? Idk them. maybe for them its funny but for me not. Only staff know what jury want. And that's why they win.

Getting something what the jury likes is like finding a black niddle in a box of white niddles with your eyes closed :mellow:

The staff had no idea what the jury 'wanted' - in fact, all the staff members who weren't on the jury had no idea as to all the members who were. So, other staff members had no idea as to who in particular would be judging their entries ;)

 

And to try and get a wider opinion of entries from our jury, we first collected good entries in a spreadsheet, and then made sure we selected the winners by using a voting system. If you have any better way of selecting the entries in mind, please share it. And no, getting the community to vote is not the best way - people often cheat with votes and get their friends to vote for them. Having a group of *unbiased* staff members is much more accurate :p

i do feel, that some of you might jump the "easy for you to say, cause you are one of the winners" ride, but i dont care, anywho i am sure almost (not all) everyone had to take time to think their comic over and edit it, i took like 2 and a half hours cause i was trying to came up with 2 comics and with the help of some of my friends to pick one .and yea some people may think mine and the rest are funny while others dont think so, people can have different tastes in humor. some people think sel's and gangnam's are not funny, to me they are very much so. if i was a judge i would have a hard time picking between those two :P

I know lots judged. Thats the problem. Some of those judges can have personal gain.

For example.

A player said something rude to one of those judges a long time ago. You would probably say that the mod has forgotten. But no. Every one remembers. So when the choice was to decided either it was that player who insulted him or someone else with a worse entry, then the judge would choose the worst one. This is personal gain. Also judges never give a negative opinion for a fellow staff or ex staff. there for the whole contest is rigged. Not fair. You wouldn't understand. you never was the loser. You were staff, you became a winner.

For us players, we are always losing. I understand there should be a loser. But this has gone too far. Its time that the mods should lose. 

No matter where they enter, some have terrible entries, ik, and yet they still win. This contest is rigged. the winners are chosen for who they are and not for what they done. Say what you believe, but you will never change my mind :angry:

I think you've misunderstood what 'personal gain' means. So a judge wouldn't pick an entry by a person he/she doesn't like? Why? For personal satisfaction? The staff are more mature than that, this is why they were selected to be judges.

 

And unless an entrant had insulted all 11 of the judges at some point, I don't see having lots of judges is the problem here. Rather, it's good, because it avoids this type of bias :lol:

You must be referring to someone else, lol, because that doesn't describe me at all :p

 

And just because I agree with the way things were done this time, it doesn't mean the contest is somehow 'rigged'.

 

Do you want to know why I agree? Because I didn't trust just letting one person make all the choices, so I made sure myself that the judging was fair :lol:

 

And also, I have lost out multiple times in the past in these contests. Did you know that my entry was voted the best in the Madness' Run category by the staff jury, but that Semyon's opinion meant that it was knocked down to second place after Gefordeon's? I don't think you appreciate that even winners lose out sometimes :p
