Let's Discuss Micro-Upgrades!

I guess the thing with the jump in monte carlo is history now.. I have a Wasp M3 and I can't do the jump without a nitro.

I completely agree to you about the form factor.. Hunter has the edge here.

I hope Hazel sticks to his word and the swaps of hunter and Viking are history now.

I've to try to get along with my Viking M3+13 now, as I do not want to spend crystals on another hunter.. I rather get a Titan or Mammut and a Twins. Lets see.

Overall they made a lot of players unhappy. Light hulls make only half the fun they used to, and the Hunters + Viking users are pissed too.

So to sum it up... Everyone is pissed now :P

(well, except those Titan/Freeze players, lol)

Titan-Freeze looks like a duck

Mammoth-Freeze looks like a goose

I chuckle every time I see those rigs

Speed-ups, as well as sales for turrets as well. MUs aren't the only thing with sales :)

Speed-ups add extra costs, while turret sales mean nothing if you plan to use MUs to get a discount. Basically, with the way the system works at the moment, you have to upgrade an item to the full 50 steps in order to get the next upgrade for free. So if you want to save crystals in the process, you need to upgrade ONLY during MU sales and not waste any crystals on speedups, so it may take you years to fully upgrade M2 that way. Otherwise you have to either spend extra crystals on speed-ups to get a free upgrade to M3, or not MU all the way (only 10-15 steps) and take advantage of a turret sale, getting the next modification at 50% off. The most beneficial option is still the one where you don't MU your M2 equipment at all and just buy M3 during a sale, but if you use MUs, you get the opportunity to use a stronger weapon before others get it.

I'll outline it a bit clearer:

  • No MUs at all until M3, getting M3 with a 50% discount during a holiday sale
    + saves maximum crystals - M3 turret at half-price
    - no advantage from MUs

  • 10-15 MUs during various MU discounts, no speed-ups, get M3 at discounted price during holiday sale
    + small advantage from MUs
    + not too expensive
    - not particularly great, this option is a compromise between getting the most benefit for little cost

  • Full MUs during 50/70 MU discounts, with speed-ups, get M3 for free
+ full advantage from MUs, possible to get M3 very early on
+ quick and effortless, can be done in less than a minute during a sale (given that you save up or buy enough crystals)
    - more expensive than M3 at full price, because you not only pay for MUs, but also speed-ups

  • Full MUs during various MU discounts, no speed-ups, get M3 for free
+ get nearly full advantage from MUs, this depends on how much you play with that account
    - extremely slow process, waiting for each MU sale and doing 5-10 steps at a time can take years
    - takes a lot of effort, such as setting alarms in order to start the next upgrade step as soon as the previous one completes
+ not very expensive, but still full price of M3

Something like that.

So if you ask me, I'd recommend the second option, as it's the most balanced one and easily affordable for a free player. If you want to be able to buy more stuff, go with the first option, while if you are willing to buy some crystals - go for third. Fourth option is for extremely stubborn free players, who want to get maximum benefit without buying a single crystal. But I'm not sure if it's even realistically possible.

I can't decide whether to upgrade a few turrets to near-M4 or just buff everything evenly as far as my crystals will go...

Might be cheaper to buff across the board. You will be able to get in more MUs overall without paying for speedups.

Guess it depends on how long the MU will take - how many you can complete during a sale and if you want to avoid paying for speedups.

More like 250k.

Thanks for the advice guys. Especially the caution about saving for the upcoming alterations, which reminds me that new turrets will be in the game in early 2017 - that will mean new protection modules too.

Bottom line - can't spend myself broke this Holiday.

As to whether I go for M4s or broad MUs, I think it all hangs on the speed up discount. I expect a 50% off the upgrades. If we get another 50-70% off of speed ups I'm going for M4s. If the speed up discount is missing (they've done this before) I'll upgrade broadly across the board.

I'm also snagging the existing Rico modification. It's a terror on the battlefield.

hi - how do you get the upgrade info to display above all tanks, in battles all the time, with out having to press  r and v,  all the time?

Hello, this feature does not exist. But I believe if you press the r button and leave (click on minus) the window, the info will display all the time until you click r next time.

Anyone out there with a math brain?

Assuming a 50% sale on MUs and 50% off speed ups.

Is it more or less or about the same Crystal expense to grind through a large number of MUs during such a sale, paying the reduced cost yet paying a large number of speed ups? Or is is cheaper to MU slowly, outside of sales without using or paying for speed ups at all?

It is cheaper to upgrade with speedups during a MU sale. Since I am MUing my mammoth, I will use it as an example. According to the wiki, it takes 776500 crystals to MU and 388302 cyrstals to speed up.

766500 + 388302 = 1,164,802

1,164,802/2 = 582401

776500 > 582401

Therefore, it is cheaper to MU speeding up during sales. Hope this helps!

I hate Wasp/Shaft almost as much as Wasp/Vulcan :P

Theoretically, thats how it is....however, in practice, something will always happen and willl change that.

M3 Wasp can't do jump on Monte Carlo without SB?

Oh well I stopped using light hulls on that map a while ago...

Medium hulls will rule B)

(unless they are nerfed too <_<)
