Water - Taste or no taste?

Kinda tastes like water, as in if you drink certain things, they remind you of water. However, idk as far as having a distinct taste of its own.

hmm, ofcourse it does. If coke or pepsi was our main requirement, we would love water, as we love coke or pepsi.

Its just that, we drink it all the time, so it seems like it has no taste.

Are you kidding me? water is tasteless and odourless. they teach this in school.

You don't have to be taught that the water is tasteless, ... etc. Just simply look at it and drink.

This is how the religion works, btw

if you drink water and previously have eaten e.g chocolate you may taste chocolate

You'll just taste the leftovers of the chocolate under your teeth ok.

Actually, that's the wrong way round. Nowadays, so many of us regularly drink sweeter and tastier beverages that we find the taste of water bland. Personally, I don't often drink anything other than water (apart from milk - but that's not much sweeter), and I really like the taste.

+1 to all of that post. Impurities in water (such as mineral ions) are probably what gives it a taste.

Water definitely has a taste if impure; not only can you find this out on the Internet, but you can also go out and test it for yourself. Go out and buy different types of mineral/spring water, for example. Boiled water tastes particularly horrible to me, if you want to try that, as many of the minerals are lost in the process.

Water tastes good when it has minerals in it.

Ever notice how bottled water tastes like plastic?

From Aqueduct Magazine:

"Water should have a positive taste," von Wiesenberger said. "There shouldn't be the absence of anything. For water to taste correctly on the palate, there must be certain minerals present. Potassium, magnesium, calcium and even small amounts of sodium give water its fullness. If not for these minerals, water, such as distilled water, tastes flat and dull."

The key, though, explained von Wiesenberger, lies in the ideal combination and concentration of these minerals. Good tasting water is a subtle combination of flavors.

"When there is a balance of minerals, they are harmonious and not offensive to taste," von Wiesenberger said. "A perfect concentration of minerals adds to the subtle nuances of a product whose most sought after quality is often considered to be tastelessness. Too high a mineral concentration and water takes on a tinny, metallic taste. Too low and water tastes dull and flat.

"Minerals such as potassium, magnesium, calcium and silica give water a softness, a silkiness" von Wiesenberger added. "Body is another important element to the taste of water. It gives water roundness on the tongue as opposed to water produced by reverse osmosis, which oftentimes is bland tasting. Water should taste as if it had just been scooped from a running stream."

Drinking water, not pure distilled water, does vary in taste depending on the source due to the change in levels of minerals. Due to this reason the taste of water changes from country to country.

Water tastes awesome. Especially, mineral water and mountain spring water. It's just refreshing, and it has something distinct about it that nothing else does that really relieves your thirst. No doubt its got a taste, the point about us being so used to it is a good one. It would be illogical to say something has "no taste", it always tastes of something, whether that thing is very tasteless or not.

^ Yeah I didn't get that last bit either
