There's gotta be a better method to showing the small highlights than 70% opacity.

Some kind of overlay mode...

I agree, something for me to research in the next few months, especially once school starts, I'll be the teachers assistant in the computer graphics class so I'll be able to do quite a bit of work in there.

Edit: I got it! Bump mapping.  Open the lightmap of the hull/turret you are going to use, then put the paint over the hull join the paint to 1 layer go to filters -> mapping -> Bump mapping. select it and click Ok on the window.  Alacazam! the detail of the lightmap has been put into the paint.  Put the detail of the hull/turret over it and the image is complete.

Example

lol if you look in the bottom left region you can see where I misaligned the paint

Looks nice! How about a tower to go with it?

This is just for testing. I'll finish it once I get a better computer able to run Illustrator which is essential for texturing as well as faster render. The texture for the crane, floor etc were downloaded from the internet and simply mapped on a plane which is not reliable. Hopefully after a few months I'll be able to!

OMG that first video is mine! LOL it was my final project for the computer science class and it was playing in the school lobby during project night.

You mean all the black tank lineups or the hornet/rail drift?

The 49 second video was a compilation of my blender animations from the computer graphics class I took.  So the entire video is my stuff.  I was temped to post it here but decided not to, guess it was done thought, Nirmraleer how did you find this?

The garage looks cool.

How you make the texture on the ground? Everytime i load a image texture it just shows a grey color. Why? Help :(

Also how you make so sharp shadows? and brightened surfaces? mine are always so dark...

You have to make the ground by adding a plane mesh. As far as shadows and highlights, that is determined by the type of material you use.
