ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

Recommended Posts

We have BANYA (national sauna) where ice bucket is a part of the rutine. Personally, I am enjoy to shower myself by ice cold water even more then having hot sauna. Gives me headaches sometimes though.

Hilarious that it happened to him several times, especially at the most inconvenient of times.

Listen, I know it's for charity... but...

Yeah, but you donate $10 if you do the challenge, but $100 if you decide not to waste clean drinking water! Edited by DiSoRderLY

Money is and will never be something to value for me. Giving food and water to the poor instead of wasting it to let the world know that you will be donating is just pathetic. If they were talking about sending food or water to the poor, well I'm in. But if I was to fill up a bucket and waste water, guilt would kill me. I would rather give free, fresh drinking water to the helpless than use it for a ridiculous way of donating. Unfortunately, this my opinion. I really hate how society works today.

That's my point exactly! It's all about, look at me I'm donating for charity doing the ice bucket chalenge. Pathetic, because if they didn't they where obligated to donate 10 times as much ($100 instead of $10). So they chose to waste good drinking water instead, to minimize their investment. A double negative!!!

The idea of poring cold icy water over your head is stupid and dangerous. And all because of a "dare"? Such a icy temperature could give you a flew or even kill you. Only a noob with a death wish would do this. I am surprised that you all don't know the consequences. Go ahead dislike. be noobs. But this is the truth

thats what i think.

Its CRAZY!

I think it was good at the time and has done its job of raising awareness and a lot of money for the charity but i fill like it has now run its course, and is now just a fad that people are doing.

Personally i give to a few different charities but tend to stay away from the high profile ones as they seem to get alot of money, so i go with the local smaller charities in my area as i fill the money can be put to more use.

Eh. I agree with Bremont here on how it has actually raised a lot of awareness, the whole purpose of it.

And it's done for fun, really. A double win. People have fun, get closer, and at the same time donate to the ALS and spread awareness about it.

But if you're going to look at it that way, don't blame the people. Blame the ALS for starting the whole thing. LOL.

^LOL they did not even start it. Some golfers doing it for other charities and fun did haha. But then it connected to ALS because the next few people had someone with it and now we are here. Something like that anyway.

Also, yeah but now people simply do it because they were nominated/for fun. Like they do not even say ALS at all! The people that donate and say it are the ones doing the good job.

Actually it isn't. A short burst of cold water is known to be healthy, and generally improve your immunity to the cold. Of course that is provided you are in a warm environment, and your body temperature stays up throughout. You can do some running before and after to keep your body warm, if it makes you feel better. In Russia it is common for people to go swimming in a lake in the middle of winter, as a way to strengthen their health. This has been done for hundreds of years, and has proven to improve their immunity to cold and make them healthier. Usually it's done between sessions of sitting in a very hot sauna.

Of course people with a weak heart shouldn't try this type of thing.

Alright eragon, you are a sane thinking forum member and despite your acerbic comments I still respect you. However if you dare to call such a clean cause pointless and stupid, I have no other way of replying but telling you that you are a hypocrite.

The ALS Ice bucket challenge is arguably an original, catchy and compelling way to raise awareness of this horrible condition and is therefore the most efficient way of raising money for the cause. We all know how the internet works, and if it were some classic petition or charity asking for money just like that, the results would be depressing.

And no, no argument about some cold water poured on your head and giving you a cold can turn the odds in your favor. In fact, I ran a mile the other day along with two classmates after which I poured the iced water on my head with the purpose of increasing the cardiovascular threat of the challenge just so I can prove to hypocrites like you that this is the least of your problems. I'm not uploading the video here because I'm not that open with this community, but I have donated money and am nominating anyone who thinks this is stupid.

And if you want the graphic, sad and classically compelling way for making you donate, watch this.

Though in general I'm all for supporting charities, you should also do some of your own research before donating to what others say is great. I personally don't think donating money is as effective as donating time, that's why I have been personally doing volunteer work for my whole life. Someone's research below, see what a huge cut the administration takes... Not to mention that the charity (with all the money they've received) have practically got no results over the period of their existence.

Fundraising you say..

If you want to donate to something, donate it to the research facility, not charities.

And lastly I want yall to know that I pretty much did the ALS challenge pro-style when I was 12 (still living in Siberia):

Yeah, that's ice ^_^

For those saying that this is a waste of water:

How many gallons of water do you use up when you take a bath? How much water do you drink? How much water do you use to clean your clothes/dishes? You use up so much water and you're unwilling to take out one bucket from that expenditure for a donation, feel hypocritical. If you do not want to waste water just reduce that bucket for that day from your daily usage. Oh, by the way, the reason you argue for the lack of water is because water is a resource that is currently being sold to companies which sell it to consumers. Don't you think that resources shouldn't be given in private ownership? That's the point. There are enough resources in the world, there will be a lack of them if they are given under control to be sold to others. If resources are publicly available (charged only for their extraction) the lack of resources will be near to nil, because they are plentiful.

I take your point bar the one about how much water do you drink as you need this to survive.

But yes your right don't take a bath have a shower.

I don't blame people. I'm accusing them of being greedy in a bad way))))
